  2. bramfrank - sorry I missed your question about which generation of radio - I am not sure - it was listed as coming out of a 2013 Journey on the wrecker's information sheet. So far after 6-months I have not had any issues with it - although I did update it to the latest firmware available though U-Connect website. The maps need to be updated - but I am reluctant to pay more $$$ for newer maps for the amount of time I actually use it.
  3. I think you would prefer to have a separate camera installed on the glass window, high up so it doesn't interfere with your line of sight - connected to the recorder head end unit. Mine records both front and back simultaneously while driving. The video is actually quite good in most conditions and will certainly make reading license plates easy should something happen. I didn't have too much difficulty routing my cable from back to front - I ran mine along the floor and tucked the cable under the sill trim and then up through the side of the dash to the 'A' Pillar and then up to the headliner along the windshield to connect to the main unit.
  4. The auto unlock feature is controlled in the settings through the radio touch screen. Can you unlock it via the key fob? If yes - then I would check the settings first to see if it was changed inadvertently before I took it to the shop.
  5. Hi All, Update after 10,000 kms and 29 cm of recent snow - ;0) The weather here in Windsor has been pretty good for the most part. Recently we just got a 29 cm dump of snow (11.5" for our US friends) ... Wet, slushy crap that is melting as I write this post. Well - the tires performed very well considering that they are not a pure snow tire. All around performance was GOOD to VERY GOOD. The tires track well in the snow and the Journey doesn't get pushed around too much in the ruts, etc... Stopping distances were very good and overall we are really happy with them. Obviously, they do not perform as well as a dedicated WINTER tire - but if you are looking for an all around tire - that can be mounted and forgotten about other than rotations - these tires are in my opinion a good investment. I will say that if you are planning to run them year round (like me) - take steps to condition your rims before winter to prevent pitting from any road salt. I applied a heavy coat of turtle wax on my wheels, and didn't buffer it all off 100%, at the end of November. I have the chrome clad aluminum wheels - so the plastic covers should be OK so long as I don't smack them on a curb or something.
  6. Thanks - I have the radio for sale on Kijiji ... but if it doesn't sell - it can stay in the box on a shelf ... just in case. I am happy that I did it as I really like the NAV function on the stock 8.3" screen as opposed to my separate Magellan unit - although the Magellan unit has lifetime updates ....
  7. Thank - Good to know. I will reach out to the forum if I have issues with mine...but I think mine are RB5 radios ... regardless - I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the feedback. Lee
  8. I have read here in the forum that our radios can be 'glitchy' as you put it ... I thought that issue was resolved with the firmware updates?
  9. Hi bramfrank - Thanks .... learned something new today!!! Good to know.
  10. Hi mfeel We have two 12 R/T AWD Jouneys with the 3.6L pentastar . We average about 12.5L/100KM city and about 9.8L/100KM on highway - over the last 5,000kms. One has 78,000 kms and the other has 36,000 kms on the clock - both are about the same. bigtsr and larryl are both correct. New vehicles take time to break in and the mileage should improve - but it really depends on your particular driving style and how much time is spent sitting in traffic - stop and go driving, hilly terrain, etc... I would reset my mileage clock at every fill up - but then if I spent the first half a tank of gas in city mode only with little or no highway trips my gauge would tell me I was at 18.5L/100kms - Yikes.... all city - stop and go , etc... but over 10-tanks of gas you should get a pretty good feel for the mileage that you are going to get. On the highway - you can expect to get down to 9.5L - 10L / 100 kms - so longer trips it will do pretty well for its size and power (283HP after all).... speed plus the AWD will be negative factors. My two - cents - for what it is worth.....
  11. You need to bring the radio or truck to the dealer to get the anti-theft code. Dealer service can provide it and / or the parts department if you purchased it used. I you swapped it into the truck as a used part - you will need to provide proof of ownership. If it is the factory radio installed when new - the dealer can put the code in for you ... although I am concerned as to why it needed it i the first place. Did you have a dead battery or some reason for the radio to lose all power for a period of time?
  12. Hi All, I upgraded my non navigation 8.4" U-Connect Radio to the one with the navigation. My old radio was the RE2 media version. I ordered the navigation media radio (RB5 - i think) from a wrecker in London Ontario for $250.00. The wrecker shipped the part to my local used parts store and I picked it up from there. I took the new radio with my purchase receipt to the local dealer parts desk and they provided to me the anti-theft code. The swap took a total of 20-minutes - and then another 20-minutes to update the radio software which I downloaded from U-Connect web site. All in all I am very happy with the swap and for me - I was lucky in that the only thing my existing radio did not have was navigation - so the swap didn't require a new screen or new antennas, etc.... If I can do it - anyone with a little bit of mechanical aptitude can do it themselves .... Love the new radio with functioning navigation - so no need for my Magellan screen on top of my dash.... Note: I have a great RE2 non navigation media radio with the hard drive, etc.. if anyone needs it - contact me through the forum.
  13. Hi All, We installed dash cameras in both of our 12 Journeys. I went with Kobi (Chinese) dash cameras with solid mounts and rear camera addons. I managed to pick these up a Factory Direct (Ontario) for about $125.00 each. So far we are really happy with them as they can protect us in the event of an accident by documenting what happened from the driver's point of view. I installed them with a flat self adhesive fixed mount, just to the leff of the rear view mirror where the sunshade line reduces. The rear cameras are installed in the center of the rear window at the top of the glass. Both cameras have GPS and automatic G-force logging. What are your opinions on dash cameras in general? I am looking for feedback on various makes / models and their respective performance. The ones that we installed record at 1080P (Front) & 720P (Rear) simultaneously. The only other option I was thinking of is a battery connection to allow parking lot recordings for any mishaps when the trucks are parked - but I have not experience with these - so not really sure if it is worth the effort... Thoughts? Lee
  14. Hi All, We had the recall done on both of our 12 Journeys. On my wife's truck, since the recall has been done, we have noticed that there is a definite growling noise at cold startup and there is a hint of bearing noise under load when accelerating. On my truck with 1/2 the overall mileage - I have not noticed any noise or growling.... We are taking hers back to the shop to have them check the power steering pump and associated pulleys / bearings, etc...but I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced new noises on cold startup or under load? My neighbors 2015 Crossroad is making the same noises my wife's truck is and they just had the recall done as well.... Thanks for you help!
  15. Hi All, Update after 5,000 kms. We have had a mix of weather from sunny mid-twenties to heavy rain and overnight lows around 6-7 degrees. Overall we are very pleased with these tires. They handle well in all conditions experienced so far. We can confirm that we lost about 1 MPG on our overall mileage - both trucks experienced the same loss - so it is definitely the new tires. We also noticed that in dry conditions the tires have great lateral grip (cornering) but a little less grip in straight line acceleration. Trucks both feel and track better on highway at speed and better on the on/off ramps at speed. We have occasionally squealed the tires off the line at a traffic light; however, we think that this may be due to the deeper more aggressive tread on the newer tires than the older semi worn tread design on both the Kuhmos and Pirelli's that were on the trucks. It does take a little getting used to - but I wouldn't take a star off my rating of the tires overall for it. So now were are just waiting for the snow to fly so that we can get some driving in under real winter conditions. So far though - these tires seem to be a great bargain for those of us - who do not want to invest in a second set of rims / sensors and then have to switch tires 2x per year. My interim rating = 5/5 stars after 5,000 kms. Lee
  16. If you go to a 17" tire your options really open up - especially on LT series tires rather than P rated tires. 225/65/R17 or 235/65/R17 are really good options. I am not sure what you can get in a 6--ply or better in that size range though. You might want to contact a local tire shop to do some research for you ... The bigger brands will have more options available for a given tire line than a smaller brand. I would start there on each manufacturer web site to find a tire line that meets your needs that supports smaller sizes... then go to a tire shop for pricing / availability?
  17. Hi All, OK - Quick Update on the tires after about 1000 kms So we had some light rain and wet roads in addition to mid 20 degree celcius partial sunny days with dry roads. The tires make the truck feel a bit more solid on the road. They seem to be a bit sturdier in the sidewall area but we didn't notice any negative consequences from a ride / handling point of view. They are actually pretty quiet considering the aggressive tread. On the highway there is a slight noise (radio off) but not really noticeable. On the highway, with mixed speeds from stop and go to 70 MPH - over a 500km trip - we seem to have taken a small MPG loss of about 1 MPG ... we will continue to monitor. Otherwise we are really pleased with the tires so far. Trucks feel planted and we noticed less impact of cross winds on the tracking/steering. So far so good.
  18. I had a set of Sailun Winter Tires on my 2008 Pontiac G5 Coupe. They worked very well driving from Barrie into Toronto on a daily basis. I had them on for all our winters that I owned the car and sold them with the car and they still had about 50% of their tread left. They handled the daily 400 commute well enough. They were better on slush and ice than deep snow (over 6") but I would buy another set if I needed to ...
  19. Thanks - I will try that ... we bought these Journeys used with low mileage ... so the sticker has only been on it for a couple of weeks.
  20. I agree that the overall cost / km will likely be somewhat higher ... however, we are in Windsor which is not really known for major snow storms ... most winters are -5 degrees to + 5 degrees with mostly wet snow, freezing rain, etc...We used to live in Barrie and commute into Toronto daily and in that situation - I would have had dedicated winter tires in a heartbeat! The Toyo rep indicated that the mileage warranty is 100,000 km for H rated and 80,000 km for V rated tires - plus road hazard is included for about $200 bucks a tire installed. Dedicated winters + steel wheels and TPMS were $275.00 / tire all in ... I put up a new thread about this which I will keep up to date over the next several months ... Cheers. Lee
  21. Hi Everyone - I need some assistance with the proper method to remove a dealer installed sticker from the rear tailgate of my 2012 Journey. I understand dealer advertising - but I sure wish dealers would shy away from this method and use license plate frames or other removable media. My White Pearl Coat paint is now marred by this 'huge' 4" x 6" dealer sticker ... I have to get it off as it is driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated. Lee
