Trouble Code: P1D83

My wife just took her Journey in to get the oil changed, when she got back in the car, the check engine light had come on. When she asked the service department to look it up, they said it was just a "stored code" and she just "needed to drive around" until the code turned itself off. I've never heard of that technique of car fixing, but you know...She took the car to AutoZone and they pulled a P1D83 code. Anyone have a clue as to what this code actually is? I haven't been able to find it online.

Thanks,

We took our car to get an Overdue Oil Change and A State Inspection. We took it to a Quick Lube, since they are able to do both in one trip. They started with the oil change, and then proceeded to the inspection, they got a code P1D83, which they first stated, "It has nothing to do with what we did". Now we hadn't had a Engine light pop at all prior to bringing it, for months. Maybe years. Now we can't get our new registration because he said its a "Manufacture" Code and they cant do anything about it and we have to take it to the dealership. Seems like they might've messed something up in the process of the oil change. But who knows for sure, will update for future people. I see nobody ever gave insight to what happened with their code.

Code P1D83 Dodge Description

The P1D83 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for Dodge vehicles indicates that an implausible engine oil temperature signal has been received by the engine control module (ECM). This means that the ECM has detected a discrepancy between the expected engine oil temperature and the actual reading it is receiving. Engine oil temperature is crucial for maintaining optimal engine performance and preventing damage due to overheating or insufficient lubrication. An inaccurate or faulty signal can lead to incorrect engine management decisions, potentially causing drivability issues and reduced fuel efficiency.

Common Causes of P1D83 Dodge

  1. Faulty engine oil temperature sensor
  2. Wiring or connection issues in the oil temperature sensor circuit
  3. ECM software or hardware malfunction
  4. Engine coolant temperature sensor malfunction
  5. Engine oil contamination or degradation affecting temperature readings

How to Fix P1D83 Dodge

  1. Perform a thorough inspection of the engine oil temperature sensor and its wiring harness for any visible damage or corrosion.
  2. Test the engine oil temperature sensor using a multimeter to check for proper resistance values.
  3. Verify the integrity of the ECM by checking for any stored codes or performing a software update if necessary.
  4. Inspect the engine coolant temperature sensor to ensure it is functioning correctly and not contributing to the issue.
  5. Replace the faulty engine oil temperature sensor or repair any wiring/connectivity issues as needed.
