bramfrank
DJ with front only aircon. When you select bi-level vents only the lower vents blow air. If you select upper, the uppers work. If you select lowers, the lowers work. If you select heat/defrost, THAT works. But when I select bi-level the blower makes more noise than it does in the floor or floor+defrost positions, so the system is recognising the reqauest, but the air only flows from the floor vents. Software? Hardware? Edited May 23, 2013 by bramfrank
redtomatoman
Mine works the same. Floor is stronger when bi-level selected. Dash vents work, but floor definitely more powerful. Peace.
biohazard
if its a 2011 then any problems/diagnosing should be covered under the factory warentee , right ??
bramfrank
My nearby dealer is an idiot - I had to sue him once already (and won). They warn people that if they run diags and don't find a problem that the customer pays . . . but the real issue is that they don't FIND the problems . . . . . That's why I bought my current vehicle from a less convenient dealer, but I prefer to avoid all contact with any Chrysler dealer if possible. So if nothing comes out the upper vents when one selects the bi-level mode (which seems strange to me, since there is an 'all to floor' and 'all to upper vent' position and they both work), then if it is designed that way and it took me 20 months to notice, then so be it. onecrazyfoo4u
Mine just started doing this too...select foot/face split and it only comes out of the feet. Go to face only, and it's full blast face A/C. I think something may have broken because mine just started doing this a couple weeks ago. 2012 Crew for me. Official Dodge Support DodgeCACares Posted May 3, 2013 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted May 3, 2013 bramfrank, I think at this point we can't rule out a software or hardware issue. Could go either way. I checked quickly for all 2011 DJ and didn't find any updates that seemed to apply to this complaint, however that doesn't mean there isn't one. Best thing to do here is get back to your dealer and speak with the Service Manager. I would go try and test another '11 DJ they may have on the lot to compare. If yours seems to be defective, the dealer can proceed from there. If at any time you need my assistance, please send me a PM.
bramfrank
Thanks . . . Based on onecrazyfoo4u's comment, it does seem likely to be a defect - so I have 3 things to get fixed; - The vent issue; - There is a software update to eliminate short music drop-outs from the MP3 that was never applied and; - There is an oil leak from the rear side of the 2.4 litre engine. I suppose it'll take more than a few hours, so my extended warranty 'get a loaner' feature will kick in for this one.
bramfrank
Yesterday I dropped my personal DJ off at the dealer - it is the first time since I got it in August 2011 that it's been back. Since I own 3 of these (mine is the oldest) and all three behaved the same way (and others out there do as well) I felt that it HAD to be a design 'feature'. Well, it seems that some part behind the fascia is bent or something - they adjusted it and apparently it works as expected now, so if yours does NOT blow from both the top and bottom vents in bi-level bring it in. However, they had to change the rocker cover gasket (I had a small oil leak), do a software update to get rid of the annoying dropouts from the MP3 player and fix my cruise control, so what started out as a 4 hour visit turned into a 3 day car rental. First they tried to tell me that with my extended warranty I was only entitled to a rental AFTER the first day, to which I responded that the concept made no sense, because they planned to have the vehicle back to me by 11 the next day - but they'd rent a car for me as of 7:30 . . . . what it ACTUALLY says is that if they need to keep the car overnight I get a rental - so I'm driving a Chevy Impala from Enterprise t their expense and now they're promising I'll get mine back no later than noon tomorrow (Day 3). The vent issue apparently requires an hour in the shop, so I'll take the others in for their vent work in the next few weeks. The dealer is right across the street from my bank, so I'll tie it in with visits and such.
redtomatoman
do a software update to get rid of the annoying dropouts from the MP3 player I've had these since day one in my 2011. Not sure if your "dropouts" are the same as mine. Nobody has seemed to know what I was eluding to in previous posts. I use an iPod classic video version. 30 gig. About every 20-30 mins there will be a short 1/2 sec dropout of music. Then it goes another 20-30 mins before there is another. They never end on long trips. If this behavior is the same as yours, I'd like to know which update was applied. I'll have my DJ updated. I've been told that the iPod is at fault for these dropouts. Thanks in advance. Peace. bramfrank
Here's what the paperwork says. For the vent issue: Starcase 1224000023 For the sound issue: RRT 11-108 For intermittent cruise control enabling: they replaced the switches . . . . . that ain't gonna fix it, since it is a software issue. For the oil leak they replaced the timing chain cover gasket - they had to pull the belt, tensioner, water pump pulley, AC bracket, power steering pump, head cover, engine mount & support and something he called the 'front cover' - no wonder it was booked as 4 hours of labour!!! While they had it they applied RRT 12-025 - something to do with the engine temperature sensor. Number 2 is going in on Tuesday for the vent and radio fixes.
