J'sjourney
2020 Dodge Journey Dealer says I need brakes and pads. They quoted me a total price of nearly 1700.00 including labor. (Chicago area) Would you take your car to an independent shop or a nationally known shop like Mavis or Firestone? Thanks in advance.
jkeaton
I'd buy the parts from a local parts house and do it myself. Not that technically difficult to do. 2late4u

2late4u
just call around the local garages for a check and price for all 4 corners...To be honest you shouldn't need brakes all the way around for a 2020 journey ,of course we don't know how you drive and also the all important question of how many miles are on the journey...brakes on your journey should have lasted you at least 100 k unless they were abused by heavy stop and go driving..... quality brake pads for all 4 corners should be less than 200 plus 4 new rotors price can vary from 200-400 depending where you buy them from,,,check out Amazon for rotors and pads I only use anadarko pads....actually only the rear are a bit more trouble than the front since you have to rotate the caliper piston instead of compressing them like the front Edited June 17, 2025 by 2late4u jkeaton

I will call or stop by some of the local shops. The car only has about 27,000 miles on it. More stop and go then highway driving. Chicago winters with the salt they put down could make then wear faster. Don't know. Not a mechanic.

Brakes are important for all vehicles, whether for daily driving or in demanding heavy hauling services. You should call local garages for a brake check and price for all four corners. For a 2020 vehicle, brakes usually last around 100k miles unless there’s heavy stop-and-go driving. Quality pads and rotors for all corners typically cost between $200-$400. Rear brakes can be trickier since the caliper piston needs rotating.

Good advice here—brakes on a 2020 Journey should still have plenty of life left unless it’s seen unusual use. In some cases, factors like heavy hauling or constant stop-and-go driving can wear components faster than expected, so it’s always smart to get a full inspection before replacing everything. That’s solid advice—brakes on a 2020 Journey should last a long time unless driving conditions are unusually tough. Checking mileage, driving habits, and getting quotes from local garages will give the clearest picture before spending on full replacements.
