After reflashing and functional what do they usually sell for. Just curious. In case mine gets bricked.

About $190. They fail in 2 ways. Corrupt firmware and electrical board failure. Since the firmware update seems a permanent fix we've stepped up our buying and selling. Salvage yards just pull and sell for the most part. We don't even test modules from yards or core returns. They go right to the bench for flashing.

Only after successful flashing does testing begin. Testing is pairing phone, pandora music stream, Voice command FM channel change, send text message.

Last test is Thermal. That involves point thermal camera at the module 30 minutes after vehicle is off to verify module is powered down.

Since 95% are firmware that's how we can offer core refunds.

Cool.  Nice informative post for us Journey owners. Sounds like you know your electronics repairs.  Although I own a solder sucker and few other electronics tools, way out of my league.

Reuse/repair always tops recycle;  it’s a shame more electronics can’t be salvaged/repurposed.  With current car supply situation you should see some demand. Cheers.

Sorry to hijack this thread BUT.....

The "bluetooth/phone" phone module was DEAD on my project '13 4.3 screen audio system.Today  I got a used one and phone settings now work{I don't have a phone to pair it to}, but voice command works but is BARELY hearable and does not respond to me requesting a radio station change.

Could this still be a faulty module??? I have NOT yet remounted the module in it's location. OR is there some kind of volume adjust screen on the touchscreen that I have not found????

ANY help is greatly appreciated before I crawl back under the dash and put everything back together!!!!

Arrrg under dash, work I get sore thinking about it. Haven’t messed with journey bluetooth modules yet, fingers crossed. I would first pair a phone on the off chance it has some effect. Same exact part number on module stickers?

Power cycle with battery unhooked a bit, another random try thing. Should really just be a plug and play install. If known working module from rest of your fleet swaps in with no issue…wrecker unit defective I guess. Unless different model year bluetooth modules have firmware compatibility issues (Uncle SamAutos could answer that).

Havent found a wrecker journey with a Bluetooth module still in place under steering column,  has to be the first thing pulled. We don’t really have to wonder why.

John, you are not mistaken at all about under dash work! I'm so sore that last night I slept seated in my comfy chair and was still wakened every 2 hours from back pain!

I re read the tests that USA puts each module thru and saw about voice command FM change. I was trying to change from AM to a FM station, going out in a bit to try a FM to FM change.

As I said before, I don't have a "smart" cell phone or even a "dumb" one{just a traditional LANDLINE}, the wife has one but is away till Sat. afternoon to try hers on this sxt. for pairing and function. Her '13RT's bluetooth and phone work perfectly and the volume of voice command and such come thru louder than a radio station playing volume, not so with this used module in this sxt.

There is a lot of work in swapping this module and I've got to get the brake pedal bracket back together to move the car soon so my annual firewood deliveries can begin! I'm going to try and put it back together and leave the module to the left side of the bracket for now and see if I can still get to the connectors for a later module work/change.

I also have a matching color driver door to replace, but have to take the inner panel off to swap the key cylinder and then put that back together too!

WELL... NO JOY with voice command.

Going to disconnect power at the TIPM and wait a bit and then hook power back up and try, but i'm not confidant it will "do the trick".

Next xtep will be putting things back together as I posted. Winter firewood is more important right now!

After restoring power, I can just hear{very low volume} voice prompts. BUT now the voice command only states to press the phone button to make a call....which I can not do until the wife comes home Sat.

I moved the module off to the left kickboard area {loose} and it won't harm anything there. I reassembled the brake pedal assy., all is good there and I may be able to "play" with trying another module without so much disassembly under the dash!

IF pairing a phone works like it does in her RT and mic and volumes are good, then I may just let it go with this module, as radio functions are easy enough with the wheel controls.

I REALLY don't want to pull another unit out from another of my friend's parts cars!!!!

WELL.... This is turning into quite a mystery for me.

I have read on subject threads in this forum site and on youtube videos that there are 3 connectors to the hands free/bluetooth module. I only unplugged 2 connectors on both my project ride AND the donor car. I even took the drive back to my friends place and rechecked the donor car that I took the module from. NO third connector even though the module has the spot for one.

My project ride DOES have the proper mirror with mic./speakers as did the donor car.

Right now with no phone to try pairing for phone function, all screen prompts appear to come up and function.

Voce command only responds VERY LOW VOLUME "to make a call press phone"

Screen settings for bluetooth/phone has grey square that says "please wait" for a couple seconds then goes away and reverts back to setup screen with bluetooth /phone highlighted.

It's a "wicked" fit to get under the dash, but tomorrow I'm going to give one last look for this "mysterious" third connector a Grey connection on the module, so should be a Grey wire connector.

STAY TUNED!

ALL figured out and working.... once the wife got home and we paired her phone to the car. This task on the project car is all back together and finished ! YAH !!!!

Just so all know ANY call for 3 plug connections id for higher level audio{8.4" screen and or Alpine system}. Base 4.5 screens only use 2 connectors and Voice command is for asking to call a saved contact in the persons phone, or something like that{this stuff is beyond my knowledge base}~   LOL
