Lawdog1911 reacted to B4ZINGA in Are the Journey Transmissions interchangable?
I doubt the trans for the 2.4L could be bolted to the 3.6L and vise versa.
Likewise, installing a 5.7 or 6.1 will take a lot of money, a lot of time, and a lot of BST (blood, sweat, tears).
The Hemi series of V8 engines was not designed for transverse applications and the Journey platform was not designed for longitudinal engines. One thing you have going for you is the fact that the Journey was designed to be AWD, so if you start with an AWD Journey, there *shouldn't* be much trouble converting it to RWD. The big issues will be fitting the RWD transmission under the car, and modifying the front and rear suspension systems (and front cradle) and rear drive system. I don't know enough about FWD-based AWD systems to know what can be recycled (if anything), but it should give you the tunnel space and fuel tank setup to work.
Still, you'd have to make the engine itself fit between the Journey's fenders (and between the firewall and cooling assembly), and the transmission fit under the body as well. The 2.4L looks miniscule in the Journey engine bay, and 3.6L fills the void pretty well as it is. Then the electronics... It's worth looking into if you don't need your Journey for several months.

Here are some pics of the mock up... These are just loosely placed together to get a feel for the finished product. I still need to shave a little off the back of where the projector mounts...

Well, I finally ordered and received my replacement headlamps late last week, so I began my retrofit over the weekend. I've been super busy lately, so I may not get to the finishing touches for a week or so, but here is where I am at as of today...
I ordered the NSF certified TYC replacement housings from Rockauto.com. Cost for both sides with shipping was right around $200. I did this for 2 reasons...(1) if I ever need to I can always switch back to the oem housing at any time and (2) if gives me a little more time to complete the job since I'm just too busy to dedicate an entire day to the project. The headlights took about 3 days to get to me and when they showed up they were in excellent condition and appeared to be very well built. I bought the TYC's due to some quality issues I have had with past retrofits using other manufacturers and I was glad I did when I received them.
The first order of business was to separate the lens from the housing... Luckily these were sealed with butyl and not the permaseal that the oem headlights use (another good reason to go aftermarket), so they were pretty simple to open. After removing all of the bulbs and the rubber boots on the back, 20 minutes in the oven at 220 degrees F got them apart pretty easily.
The next step was paint. I have an all black DJ with tinted tails and the front end and wheels are all blacked out...black seemed like the obvious choice for the headlights as well. Since I am planning on keeping the high beams I decide to black out everything except the high beam reflector. For those who haven't seen it, there is a chrome surround (which contains the side reflector) that is screwed to the lens, and all 3 of the reflector bowls are attached to the back half of the housing. In order to paint the chrome needed to be removed from all of these pieces, so I separated the surround from the lens and removed the turn signal reflector bowl from the housing. The high and low beam reflector bowls are a single piece and are connected to the adjusters, so I just left those in the and taped off the high beam to protect its finish. I also removed the amber reflector from the surround. In order to remove all of the chrome I sprayed everything thing down with oven cleaner and waited about 15 minutes. The chrome finish rinses away at this point, leaving only the unfinished plastic behind. The turn signal reflector bowl ended up being a very shiny black...score, I don't have to paint these! The chrome surround was also black, but the finish was dull, so those got set aside for paint. The low beam reflector bowl ended up being a hideous puke color...DEFINITELY needs paint.
For paint I decided to go with UV protected plastidip... I plastidipped all of the above mentioned components (except the blinker bowls) as well as the shrouds for the projectors. After above 5 coats of black plastidip I also sprayed some "glossifier" on these parts to give them some shine. I also tinted the side reflector with niteshades and shot it with clear coat to give it some shine. After paint I put everything back together, but kept the lenses separated from the housings.
This is all I was able to complete this weekend due to a hockey tournament that my son was in (as well as a game or two for myself). The plan is to let the dip cure for a week and then get the housings installed on the DJ so that I can set the horizontal orientation of the projectors and get them dialed in before re-sealing the lenses onto the housing.
I'll try and get some pics of the process posted up and will update this thread as I complete more of the job. Thanks for looking!

Lawdog1911 got a reaction from rolly in Did the Journey change your opinion of Dodge?
I came from a 3rd generation GM family and the Journey was what converted me to Chrysler products. My Journey made me start selling cars at my local Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram dealership. From there, I fell in love with the line up offered and haven't gone back to GM. I wont get rid of my Hondas ( 2008 Fit, 2009 Accord, 2008 CRV ) because they are paid off ( they were bought after getting married as a joint agreement, lol ), but from now on its Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat (Wife wants to replace Honda Fit with 500 L ).

    Hello!
Just purchased a 2015 Dodge Journey Limited and really liking this guy vs. the 2012 Pathfinder I traded in. As far as I can tell the only options I didn't get are nav and the built in booster seats. Debadged the rear and blacked out the front upper grille yesterday, just need to finish blacking out the lower grille trim today. I was able to order the Blacktop parts from my dealer, but it's going to take a few weeks to get. Now if I can just trade out these chrome rims for the black alloys I'll be set! I'm having trouble finding alot of info or accessories for the 2015, does anyone know if most 2014 parts are compatible i.e. roof bars etc?
    Cheers,
    Danny

    the car is pearl white:

I now have mirror covers and the grey part of the lower grille (don't remember how this is called) painted black. I basically want to keep the 3 color scheme "white-black-red" throughout the vehicle and was disappointed that red front turn signals are illegal . Back are LED red, though

Ok, so I have only had this 1 week and I don’t know everything about it yet, however…
Daytime Running Lights – Not working at first but looking through the settings I found the option to turn them on, and low and behold they work!
Weather tech rear window guards fell off while driving into the vehicle thank god, a quick search here in the forums, a dremel tool and some 3M auto tape and I’m back in business.
Interior is really quiet, V6 had plenty of power to get the job done, as others have noted the transmission is a bit slow to downshift but nothing I cannot live with.
NAV system is really good, learns the way I want to go and remembers it, awesome!
Stereo rocks! Lots of BASS when the EQ is turned up. Sat radio I have NO opinion on as I have not looked at it yet.
Rear Entertainment System, what can I say I do not sit in the back, but the kids’ love it and it keeps them quiet.
LOVE the passing blinkers, for those that do not know just tap the turn signal, it will blink 3 times in the direction you taped and then turn off.
Gas Mileage, well I have 528 miles on it, and I’m on my 2nd fill up so no tracking until I fill up tomorrow. The computer is showing 21 to 21.4 so far, I’m thinking it’s going to improve as it breaks in.

My retrofitted lights have arrived finally. After long waiting and splitting with cash, I received my lights. I have them already installed in the vehicle. Wouldn't even try to describe how complicated the harness is and how complicated it was to install them. It is really busy under the hood now.
It took 5 months from start to finish to get them done, wow...
Here is the bench test video from the retrofitter:
