  1. I have been looking at window stickers and I have noticed that the 2012 FWD R/T has a Touring Suspension While the AWD R/T's have a Performance suspenstion. Can anyone speak to the differences and why the AWD has a more sport tuned suspension.. Is it to carry the extra weight etc?
  2. I dont have the knowledge to be technical but I in general the standard suspenstion would have more body roll in turns, would absorb more on a bumpy road due to a more forgiving and less harsh springs / shocks / struts. The touring should have less body roll and harsher on bump roads due to harsher / less absorbant shocks / struts. In short the touring is just a stiffer and more sport tuned suspension.
  3. I am very interested in finding out more about this. Per the spec sheets I have seen the 2012 SXT has a Standard suspension while the Crew and R/T are Touring.. The 2013 R/T will get a Sport suspension. I am about to pull the trigger on a 2012 R/T. wonder if its worth waiting for a 2013. The 2013's also have a sticker $1000 less.
  4. I am going to stand ground on my previous post. The calculator and fuel consumption doesnt lie... Anyways for you non believers I think its safe to assume that we can agree that even if the filter produces 0 HP and no milage improvment the K&N saves you money in the long haul. Its a one and done filter. a $40 investment ($50 for the reoiling kit) will last the life of your car unless you drive over a million miles. with an OEM paper filter you are replaceing that puppy every year. But I pay for my K&N in milage savings. You guys can pay for yours though the many filters you do not needs to buy. regardless its cheaper to go K&N. many arguments many different points of view but one simple answer. However you want to twist it the K&N will save you money...
  5. Thanks for the awesome explaination. This explains so much. I made a homemade intake tube for my G8 that went between my TB and my stock intake box. At the drag strip I was .05 slower in the 60' but I was .13 quicker overall and I gained almost 2 MPH. Lost a little low end torque but gained a decent amount of top end HP to over compensate. Conditions were almost identical both times at the track.
  6. Dude... I am not going to get into a pissing match with anyone because you are entitled to your own opinion but I can assure you I am getting better milage with the K&N. Its not crazygreat. Like I said 1-2 mpg. My G8 is a strict commuter. Same drive every day M-F. It gets 17/25 and I went from 20 mpg average to 21.5. Its dead 21.5 every time now with 50/50 city highway. You cannot tell me I am not getting better milage. but if you feel happy saying I dont. it doesnt bother me any. Like I said you are entitled to your own opinion. Peace.
  7. Yeah I always removed restictions as well that made sense. The only thing with linear tubing leading up to the air filter box is its probably there to smooth out the air flow and increase velocity. I have found on various vehicles that sometime cutting as you are suggesting helps and sometimes it creates air turbulance and kills power. Not owning a Journey yet I am not really sure which one of those two scenerios will be true.
  8. Yeah like another poster said. headers just are not going to happen. Like it was mentioned Cat back is the bets solution for flow and mileage but one thing to consider here.... If you could find or make a cat back system unless you are able to tune the ecu you will only be able to use a small portion of the potential or it may actually hurt performance. Back on my G8 forum there were all of these guys doing intake and exhaut modifications and they ran slower at that track because the ECU was not tunable at the time. I would personally just go with a performance replacement muffler like dynomax super turbos or something. I made an intake tube to go between my TB and air box and put super turbos on my V6 G8 and gained almost 2 10ths and 2 MPH in the quarter. Thats an estimated 15 RWHP. I would recomend keeping mods simple untne we can tune this puppy.
  9. Cool. Thanks. Well if it is truly 3" than that is good. Anything bigger would be a waist and kill velocity. Sounds like throwing on high flow mufflers will be the route to start with. I put dynomax super turbos on my G8 and loved them. I will have to see.
  10. I have a question for you guys who have the SXT/Crew V6s or the R/T (assuming they have the same exhaust)... Is it a true dual exhaust or is it a single pipe with a Y pipe with Dual outlets? Is there a mid muffler, resonators as well as the rear mufflers? Just wondering where I have to start hacking when I pick mine up. If you have pics of the stock exhaust system I'd love to see it. Thanks, Matt
  11. When I get mine I would be making my own. Made one on my G8. Mostly used spectre performance universal parts.
  12. Great. Thanks for the info on the auto stick. Just like my stratus r/t s auto stick. That's definitly what I wanted to hear
  13. probably a little of both but if it was just one its the intake manifold for sure.
  14. I would check out chargerforums.com for pentastar stuff. There are a few guys who mod out their chargers and if they can get a tune for their pentastar maybe we can get a tune for ours. I'd love to just be able to tune up to the 292 in the charger or the 305 the challangers they are pushing out.
  15. I have used K&N filters in all of my cars since day 1 on my past 6 cars. I have nothing put great experiences out of them. I will argue that they do create more HP and better milage from personal experience and documentation but I am only gaining 1-2 MPG overall. In regards to HP.. any gain less than 5-10 HP you may not feel unless you beat your car to death or run it at the track. More flow will equate to more HP and better milage. Some tend to drive their cars harder with a K&N because generally anyone who consider K&N's are more spirited drivers so you just arent going to get better milage because of your driving habits. I will get K&N over and over and over again. in regards to AEM dryflow. I have only heard good things about those and allot of people have a strong preference since you do not have to oil/ reoil your filter. some people will complain that their K&N ruined their mass air flow sensor but that is probably because they over oiled it. done properly you shouldnt have an issue.
  16. Question about shift points. If you put it to the floor from say 0-80 what are the shift points? 40,60,80? Just curious about the gear ratios? Also Is the Auto stick a true auto stick? It wont shift until you hit it to the right to up shift and will it automatically shift to the next gear if you hit red line or will it just bounce off of the limitter until you upshift. I am going to go drive one but I dont think the sales person would appreciate if I tried to see what happens. Thanks Guys and Gals
  17. Like to hear she pulls good. I am going to buy an R/T and I am coming from a G8 so power is important
  18. How you liking your R/T ABCD? Going to buy a silver r/t with flex seating an nav this week. Hopefully anyway
  19. Holy Crap that mAy be the nicest white vehicle I have seen. I will be going to buy a 2012 r/t in the next couple weeks. White is now my #1 color choice
  20. Thats cool. Best of luck with your Journey. I wonder too how the Auto Stick shifting is and how quick and responsive it is. I am looking to test drive one in a week or so.
  21. Congrats! You'll have to let me know what you think of it once you hammer on it a few times. Since you are coming from a performance vehicle I am curious to get your opinion. How does the Journey R/T corner and hows the road feel? What did your Cobalt run if you ever took it to the track? My G8 ran 15.6 stock and got it down to 15.3 with mods. I am guessing that the 0-60 claims of 7.1 for the Journey should yield a 15.3 or so. so from a straitline performance perspective I should be pretty even there. I am just used to cornering on rails. if it leans in hard corners too much it may be the deal breaker. but on paper its a great compromise of practicality and performance.
  22. I am kinda in a similar situation. I currently have a 2008 G8 V6 and I am looking at the journey r/t for similar reasons. There is no technology in my G8. Its a great DD but I have 3 kids under 5 and its a tight squeeze across the back. The charger r/t wont fit the kid's car seats. I am looking for a somewhat sporty cross over that will give me what I want for my kids but still give Daddy enough fun of a driving experience. I could get a Crew equiped the way I want for 2-3K less but I really want the R/T for the suspension upgrades (They both have 19"s). I can get a Crew with the 7 seats, leather & DVD for an MSRP of 31K but to get the 7 seats and DVD on the RT I am at at least 33K with the FWD. I guess I have to figure out the suspension differences. I am not sure what they are and how much of a difference it will actually make. But... I talked to a dealer yesterday. They have an AWD R/T with the 7 seats, Nav & DVD for around 34400 or something. They offered me 2100 off sticker for the sales price and there are currently $3500 in Rebates (with the $1000 down payment match) and I have about 2500 possitive equity in my G8 so I would finance around 27K. If I got with the Crew I am looking at $25K or so. Is the suspension that important to me..... That is what Ive got to figure out I guess. Anyone have any insite on this???
  23. I still have my G8 and we bought a 2012 town and country a few months ago. I am really impressed with the town and country and this is why I even added the journey in the discussion with the Charger R/T for my car. I am impressed with the new 3.6 power wise especially for a 5K lbs vehicle. It kinda caught me off gaurd the first time i let her rip. The power is steady and then really winds up and peaks pretty good. I had a 2008 grand caravan before with the 3.8 so the difference was very noticable. The milage on the T&C is great too. We are averaging 21-22 mpg. Given all of this I am assuming the performance and milage would be better on a journey. especially with a sports suspension (I believe the r/t has suspension upgrades over the SXT/CREW). I think it should give me enough get up and go while being practical. When I compare the Charger vs. Journey I know that the 3 across the back will be a tight squeeze in the Charger and may be dificult for the kids to get in and out themselves. I know they will be able to fit but it would be nice if they didnt all need my help to get in. The thing with that too is all 3 kids are in my car at the same time maybe once a month so its something I could deal with if performance is that important to me. 7 seating question for you guys. I have a 2 year old, 3 year old and 5 year old today. How would you envision them seating in a Journey. Are you able to fit 2 boosters in the back when my 3 year old turns 4? And in my current situation I have 2 in regular forward facing carseats and one in a booster. My booster rider should probably go in the back with one of the carseat kids. With the flip forward access to the 3rd row will that give me ample room to easily put the child in his car seat? Does it flip forward enough and give me enough room to put the 2 kids in their car seats (One in the 2nd row and one in the third)? Is it still true that there isnt a tune available or the computer is not tunable? I can always design a CAI in do some exhaust modifications if I need more go. power to weight ratio should give this car a low to mid 15 quarter which would be acceptable .
  24. Hey All, I am stuggling with the Sorta practical Charger R/T and the more practical Journey R/T. I am a more spirited driver (Last 3 cars Neon R/T, Mazda 6s & Pontiac G8). I want the Charger for its 13 second quarter mile but I have 3 small kids and the Journey keeps entering my mind. I want a sporty mid size cross over if I dont go the Charger route but want to stay domestic. I just dont find anything with 280+ HP besides the Ford Edge which is ubber expensive. If I go with a 5 seater it needs 58" plus hip room in the 2nd row for my 3 car seats which no car/suv has beside my G8 has. The Charger has 56.1 in the rear and it wont fit my seats until my middle child is in a booster which is next spring. With 3 kids under 5 the journey seems more practical. I am wondering how sporty of a suspension etc. the Journey has. Am I able to drive it like I stole it? Push it hard in corners, Will it hold up to daily 0-40, 0-80 runs? I want a sports sedan but if it makes sense to go suv I need it to be sporty and able to withstand some abuse. Its mainly a DD for me but needds to be able to drive all 3 kids on occation. My car is a mainly a daily driver and I am usually by myself. Just wondering what other R/T owners think about their Journey. What is the 0-60 time and quarter mile if anyone every took one to the track? Are there CAIs available? Anyone modify their exhaust? Thanks Everyone
  25. Hello All, Brand new member, Mopar fan and first post! I know 99.999% of the people who buy the Journey buy this vehicle as a practical family hauler with a little spunk but there are some individuals as my myself that are looking to drive the family hauler as a sports sedan and on occasion will take it to the drag strip. I am slowly growing out of my Pontiac G8 so I am looking for a high performance crossover (Maybe the Journey R/T). So my question is what are your impressions on the performance of the V-6 and does anyone have any verified 0-60 or 1/4 mile times out of the AWD V-6? If I do switch over to this vehicle in a year or whatever I'd like to know some hard performance numbers and after market options. Is there any interest from other members to modify their air intake exhaust etc. etc. I know this sounds almost as absured as modding a mini van but when I drive I gotta have some get up and go. I am looking for a Low 15 or high 14 quarter mile crossover and want to stick with the big 3 if at all possible. Thanks Guys and Gals!
