  1. Well, Bramfrank I was just starting a thread and conversation like a forum is for, its nice to see if anyone has filed a complaint, some of the complaints have no followup of any sort to see if there was a fix or anything. and reading over 300 complaints after a while gets very boing I read a little over 100 before I could take it
  2. There are quite a few complaints files to the NHTSA for DJ's as I'm sure with any car, and specifically for our year DJ (2010) There are 131 complaints and most of them are brake failures (covered under warranty) and random electronic issues mainly regarding starting the vehicle and such. Hopefully this isn't a ticking time bomb on most DJs and isn't a failure waiting to happen to most like some cars inevitable failures. Has anyone submitted a complaint to the NHTSA? and what for if you did? linkvhttp://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchResults.action;jsessionid=ZwdvRnjp2cklmjWF2M9j2pn2CT30SFn70qXpy8r1QSLT1Lv2xyhG!1013286136
  3. Expensive option, Bosch Icons, They are the best hands down we have them on our, DJ, Camaro, Stratus, Astra, and on our recently departed Vue. You will not be disappointed with those. cheap option, get a nice bottle of rain-x (in the yellow bottle) and cheap wiper blades, the Rain-x will last a long time and with that all you need is cheap wipers and you will be set. Or you can do rain-x and anything really, we have rain-x and Icons and there a great combination. Rain-x also has new blades called rain-x fusion, which have rain-x coating on the blades, but who knows how long that will last.
  4. called back and are going to replace the... bear with me I don't know how to spell it..."TIPM" or tippem or tippum it sounds like TIP-M. Which is don't know how it is spelt but anyway they are replacing the TIP-M module Wednesday. Lets hope thats it. They said the TIP-M module controls the brakes and lights or something, sounds like a coveralll if you ask me. I've never Hurd of it at all so idk.
  5. Yeah we have a '10 that uses the same bulb for brake/ turn signal, no amber turns, I took the bulb out put a new one in turned the bulbs around and did everything I could do and no fix. We dropped it off at a Chrysler dealership and they were as dumbfounded as we are. The base of the bulbs had a little discoloration of brown but Im guessing thats from the brake light having been on for at least 10 hours without us knowing (from after going to a store through the night and until the morning) . The DJ started right up. drove to work cuz we couldn't do anything about it because there was no time to. And on occasion for the rest of the few days it would randomly go out and then turn back on again. It is still under warranty so it should be covered. We got a brand new Jeep Patriot as a loaner untill the DJ is fixed. The AWD is really nice since we live in northern MI wish we got our DJ with AWD. The R/T we wanted got nabbed from under us so we took that gold SXT you see in that picture for a less and still awesome in the winter. :-)
  6. Within this past week after driving the DJ and pulling into the garage, turning off the lights we were surprised to find that one brake light saying on, no matter what, keys in, keys out it stays lit. Once and a while the bulb will turn off but sure enough it will turn on again. We are thinking that it is a shortage in the wires. I included a pic if you can't imagine it enough :-P so yeah any thoughts anyone with a similar problem? I searched the forum with no success in any similar issue. Also just a note our DJ also had the license plate bulb wiring harness replaced since the bulbs melted to the sockets. Idk if that will have anything to do with it.

  8. For other cars manufactures They do the same thing sadly, (GMC acadia for one) and Other cars with halogen bulbs do the same. Dunno who it would be safe thinking if you have one filament of the two go out that you would still have the other as a "backup" as in, both bulbs on one side blink and be brake lights but if the bright filament dies on one bulb you still have the other high filament working. just makes sense to me to have it be like that. Some people with different cars have been able to modify their cars to do this, so there must be a way for ours. Would require a lot of work, tapping into the "high" wire and running it to the "high" part of the hatch bulb. Not to difficult but would it work? who knows. I want to try this but it would require taking the back hatch apart and threading a wire from the outside taillamp through the car body and through the weatherboot going to the hatch and down into the latch. and seeing how to get the wire from the taillamp housing up to the weatherboot without knowing what the inside of the body frame looks like would be a shot in the dark.
  9. to answer your question about matching to 9005 and 9006 bulbs, I do not fully know but I do know that the HIR bulbs do NOT have silver caps on the end of the bulbs like 9005/9006 bulbs do. And they are used in the last Gen. Dodge Viper and Corvettes, along with other cars that had projectors but don't have HIDs. But they are the same wattage as stock 9005/9005, so you will not fry the wiring or anything... 9005=65W bulb - (9011 (HIR1)) bulb is also 65W 9006=55W bulb - (9012 (HIR2)) bulb is also 55W
  10. Great question to ask! you trim the tap that is attached to the bulb! so no long term modifications to the headlight housing is necessary So when you buy a 9011 or 9012 you have to trim one of the three tabs on the bulb itself. Look in this link to see what I mean. http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-91565365470012_2243_878180 You can use an HIR bulb then go back to 9005 or 9006 bulbs if you don't want HIR again. The HIR bulbs are awesome to say the least. More (usable) Lumens down the road, and longer lasting bulbs; who doesn't want that? and not that much more expensive over regular bulbs. I recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade.
  11. Your car is fine! :shades: our '10 Journey has V-leds V3 triton bulbs and yes only the outside bulbs have the running lights /brake bright functions. The lift-gate only has running lights. They do have dual filament bulbs but only have the running lights that work. so with lights on: all 4 bulbs light up and with brakes the outside two light up brighter. with lights off: only outside bulbs work as turn/brake lights. inside liftgate do not turn on, at all.
  12. I stand corrected, you are right, they are not Legal for street cars and do not conform to DOT NHTSA standards, Do you know if you put an HID into a projector if that would make it officially "legal" as in a complete HID retrofit, the bulb and projector? I guess it just depends on the state and their enforcement of it, I talked to a State Trooper here in MI and he said they do not ticket those with HIDs in their car unless its blinding or purple in color.
  13. For the headlight... 9005 (high beams) can be replaced by 9011 HIR bulbs with a simple trim of the socket tabs, 9006 (low beams) can be replace by 9012 HIR bulbs with a trim of the tabs also.. for more info visit: store. candle power . com. I have these and they are great...
  14. Some states have it being illegal to just drop in HID bulbs, best check first, here in MI its no illegal they actually want people to do it, I disagree I get to much glair from some cars that just drop in blue bulbs or blue HIDs'. It depends on the car if the HID will scatter light or not, some pictures on this forum suggest that the DJ does actually place the light of HID well and not all over like some cars do. I would go against installing HIDs into the high beam because HIDs take some time to warm up to their temperature and if you turn the lights on and off and on and off repeatedly it severly decreases the life of the HID bulb and ballast because it needs a boost of power to light the arc that is an HID "burning filament". So if you drive with high beam HIDs at night and drive on a road that has some traffic you might flip them on and then 5 seconds later see a car and have to turn them off, then the cycle continues. Also our Cars use the high beam as DRL and it runs the high beam at what is it 50% power? i can't remember, and running a HID at low power can cause a flicker effect and well in short it kills the bulb quicker also. I have put philips HIR bulbs, 9012, and 9011, instead of HIDs here is my video of the HIR along with my LEDs in our DJ... The new HIR bulbs are very good, I don't see the need personally for anything brighter in these anytime soon, and the Brights are just insane on the DJ with these in. and them recommending 9008 does sound wrong to me also.
  15. Yeah no problem! powder-coating your rims might be a good choice in the long run, its very durable, but depending on where you go to do it will either be expensive or cheap. I had some powder-coating down for my motorcycle, powder-coated handlebars, fender eliminator, and a few small parts, just over $100. Plastidip is awesome in that if you don't like it a few months from now you can peel it off and have your paint be perfect under it, also you can change the color whenever, if it gets on your windows or headlights no problem because it peels off of glass and plastic headlights easy. hundereds of videos on youtube about this stuff, and its a cheap way to make your car unique, if I had a red journey I would "black out" the roof also I think it would look pretty bad-@$$ with that done. HIDs are easy to install if you want to just do i direct drop in, there are some thread on here of people doing it themselves, its not something you really need to pay anyone to do, I would look into the retrofit source. http://www.theretrofitsource.com They have the cream of the crop in HID kits, no ebay short term ballasts, they have the stuff that goes into Merc, audis, Caddies, The legit real deal Kits, they are more expensive but it really is a "you get what you pay for" Market with HIDs, Ebay kits kelvin colors are usually off, these guys have amazing kits and with great quality. If you are 100% set on doing it at a shop, look into a "car audio" shop those guys usually know cars well and have a passion with them and they would more than likely now how to put them in your car. If you google 3M window film, somewhere on their site they have a "Where to buy" tab...Here actually.. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Window_Film/Solutions/Support/Find_Dealers/ And just try your luck in finding a dealer.
  16. I am looking to add the factory navigation system to our 2010 Journey, We currently have the 6 in dash cd changer without uconnect, we do have sirius. If I was to buy the factory navi unit how hard would it be to replace it? would I need new harnesses? probably a navi antenna and what else? thanks in advance
  17. I would be against the HID installation unless you do a proper projector retrofit, you can google it, its not that hard of a thing to do if you do the simple retro fit, which is baking the headlights separating them and installing a proper projector, then resealing them. If you just drop in HID bulbs you will scatter light everywhere. There are numerous videos on youtube documenting and going in depth what I am talking about and also on google. If you want better drop in bulbs go for 9011 & 9012 HIR bulbs, google "candlepower store" If you want to paint your rims, look into plastidip, if you like it black it will stay black if you ever want to go back you can just peel it off; great stuff plasti dip is. Also best thing you can do is to put synthetic oil like Amsoil in your car. ;-) Also for tint look up 3M window film, they make good stuff that does not contain any metals and they block 999% of harmfull rays that will otherwise fade interior and make the inside of your car hotter. Also their film is strong so if someone tries to break into a window with the film on it, they will not be able to get through that easily, it will spider but will not shatter. making it harder for someone to get in.
  18. our 2010 Journey has DRLs activated then. I dunno if thats normal or not. it seams that 2011+ cars this is not normal but I don't know if it is or not on cars made before 2010. and I live here in the USA.
  19. Are the DRLs for the journey the high beam at a lower voltage so its not at full brightness?
  20. Not a problem, if you have any more questions about converting anything to LEDs or HIDs don't hesitate to ask
  21. It really depends on the product and where you buy them from, These fog light bulbs stock are generally brighter than LED replacement Fog light bulbs. My post above your post I tell the Lumen output but I will state it here again...The stock Lumen output of the stock bulb is about 900 Lumens, and the LEDs you see are about 725 Lumen. Also what color are you looking for the iJDMtoy bulbs are only available in 6K, V-leds offers the same type of bulb with a higher operating wattage which puts more light down the road, and they also offer a 5K bulb. What that means is the 5K bulb has more usable light, 5K puts out more usefull light than 6K bulbs do, thats why cars with projectors and HIDs generally have 4200K or 4500K HID bulbs not 5K or 6K. so 5K would be better choice if your looking for more usable light while the 6K bulbs will have a more blue tint and not being as useful. The difference in light down the road is negligible though. The V-leds version is here... http://www.vleds.com/bulb-number/5202-9009-h16/5k-white-6-led-drl-fog-light-bulbs-5202-9009-h16-1-pair-b-o.html
  22. No I have not, I was told by our dealership that and I quote "Chrysler would not want to pay $300 for a whole new panel just because some clips got broken" and then they followed up after I complain with... "yes we checked and no Chrysler does not want us to replace it." I will give them a call thanks for the number.
  23. If our dealership was like that I would be please, this dealer has problems with other customers I know personally, they wouldn't fix a rear window defroster they broke on a friends jeep. For our Journey they just put all the plastic "Clips? or pins?" I don't know what you call them, that are incorporated into the back panel that clip into the metal; were just thrown in the back trunk and didn't day a word, so they knew they broke it and didn't man up to the fact and backed down. The closest dealership is 30 miles away.
