  1. picture of cutoff? The Journey has great cutoff for a car with reflector type headlights (only compared to a few cars I have driven at night)
  2. I have bulbs from V-leds.com they are great, I had a 3 pairs of V3 tritons that I returned due to faulty wiring, got replacements and have been working flawlessly. go to their website and they have a link where you put in your cars information and it gives you the bulb numbers. V-leds has some great stuff I have had their stuff and superbrightleds.com stuff and V-leds where superior.
  3. Yeah luckly it was covered under warranty. I'm wondering if it could have been caused in part by having all of the turn signals changd to LED's with resistors. possibility? I don't know.
  4. Yeah, if a dealer is hurting they should call you back or email you (if one provided). And that is a ridiculous offer for a trade in, everywhere around here has at least a $1,000 trade in no matter what. And them loosing a sale over $400 is pathetic. I would point out the flaws in the vehicle and see if its missing anything and bring that up in the bargaining, thats what I did when we were looking at a used Saturn astra, brought up the stuff it was missing and some of the flaws in the paint and interior, took the KBB of the car and said, look the price is a little high and with, x, y, z being wrong/faulty the price should be lower. And they did they lowered the price by $1,000. I guess with the DJ and more importantly that dealer it was just not meant to be. There are a lot of DJs out there so just step away from the dealer and keep an eye out, cars.com and autotrader.com can be your best friend.
  5. you'll hear this again but; keep track of all the days it has been under repair, what they have done and how many times they tried to fix it. so keep all the paperwork and look into Canada's lemon laws. Seams like a car that might have more going on that meets the eye. If you were in the U.S. most states have a 3rd time trying to fix it then its a lemon, or 30 days at the dealer. And everything should be covered under warranty. it should be close to the lemon law here at least, well it deff would be. if this fix doesn't work then it would be replaced.... quick google search and it appears there is no lemon law in canada, that sucks, but you can look into CAMVAP looks like it might be a good idea as this might be a bigger problem if the computer doesn't fix this.
  6. wow they were seriously going to charge you for something covered under warranty? And then have the nerve to say that they are going to do you a favor and not charge you? wow, how DodgeCares gets in here and give you a number to call. I would complain because they are trying to take advantage and lie to you and try to pull one over on a women. ridiculous.
  7. I have been cleaning our cars throttle bodies and MAF sensors this weekend, and have come to realize the DJ does not have a MAF sensor? so there is no way to clean that? I have seen that little intake temp. that sticks right above the air filter between the throttle body and the filter.
  8. youtube seafoam for starters, the smokey videos are when its given through the intake hoses. A full treatment for a car like mine (97 Stratus) is you buy two cans, you put one full can in the gas tank, slowly pour half a can into the intake vacuum hose, and the other half in the engine oil and run it for a few miles then change the oil, it will remove sludge when you change the oil. Its all petroleum based so safe for engine oil. google seafoam and go to their website. you might think it wont work but it does, better for older cars, for a newer car like the DJ with not many miles it probably wont do anything if anything at all. For the 97 stratus and 98 camaro the full treatment is very noticeable. better throttle response and better mpg among others i bet. The seafoam in the oil works as well, I change the oil regularly and I can tell you when we added it there was some clumps and very very dark oil that came out. and i got better mpg.
  9. When you do it right, you have to put it in the intake vacuum, its simple to do but if you do it wrong you will kill the engine by hydro-locking it, You have to do it slow, I have a special funnel with a rubber hose that fits perfectly into vacuum hoses. But if you only put it in the gas then no, you will not see smoke. so smoke= intake vacuum no smoke= gas.
  10. Yeah it's whatever you prefer, take habits and less driving would make regular oil be the choice but long intervals would go with synth, and really synth is not that much more expensive with most brands. engine mpg should go up after break in, synth should get you a few extra mpg for when you do drive it on the freeway and such. Just remember to change it as required. When it comes to fuel additives go with seafoam! honestly every spring we do a full seafoam treatment, a can in the gas tank, half a can in the intake lines and the cars purr like kittens. Works well on the '98 camaro more than the newer cars. so that might be overkill putting seafoam into the intake. But yeah put a can of seafoam in the tank seafoam comes in a tin white can. everywhere sells it, walmart is the cheapest. If you put seafoam in your car make sure you at least have 3/4 of a tank because seafoam is potent and less than that and you might not get the full effect or even worse, when we do a seafoam treatment we fill the car up with premium gas and put the seafoam in to get the best possible results. then after that tank put regular gas in again.
  11. I wish the best to you with a new 2013, we would probably be torn between a 2013 DJ as the interior is nicer and the exterior looks a lot more aggressive, but the terrain, and new Acadia are also sharp cars. The rust for us is easy to spot against the gold paint, the rail-dust is the worst. The chrome atop the shifter is what is loose on ours and I always find myself pushing on it with my thumb and feeling it pop out again as I drive, it's a thing I do without thought. Our DJ doesn't have bad brakes yet, knock on wood, we don't have any pulsating or anything, we did get a few 30 point inspection that included the brakes, we should get that done and have them look at the brakes and see if they're warped or not. we don't use our conversation mirror (kiddie mirror) so we are not to worried about that. I am going out for a quick drive today and I will bring the camera along and take the pictures I wanted to take. speaking about the camaros problems guess what car ran like it had water in the gas this morning?
  12. +1, do it yourself and save money. use that mula on synthetic.
  13. So our 2010 DJ has been on the road for a few years and now I don't believe normal driving stress will cause this but our DJ seams to have poor and has subpar body panels and body gaps. For instance our '10 hood sticks out probably a centimeter or two past the front quarter panel clip. I know it has an overhang over the grill and such but this fitment does not match up because of the hood crease that blends into the quarter panel as well. That crease also has about a centimeter or two difference, its only noticeable up-close but still our Camaro and Astra don't have this problem. The gaps on both sides also are of different sizes one side is wider than the other, and the rear hatch also has the problem. Everyone knows about the rear bumper fitting like $#!t as well. The two sides that pop out and were engineered on an etch a sketch. It looks terrible on our Gold DJ because the rubbing has gone through the paint into the plastic and the plastic is black under the paint if you didn't know so there is some pretty shatty detail in the car even at a distance from looking at it at the rear. Also above the right exhaust there is this bulge that has cause hairline fractures in the paint and again you can see black behind this which in time will cause the paint to chip and fall away (had this on previous Dodge go figure). I also am not to fond of the mud-flaps again having being connected to the rear bumper. The shake A LOT if you grab on to them and wiggle them around, it causes the whole rear bumper to flex and bend and can only imagine if you are driving next to our DJ on the freeway that the rear bumper will be wiggling and dancing around, which is another engineering failure on the DJ. Other than that oh... the rust, oh the rust, rust spots here, rust spots there, I know I live in MI with salted roads but every month during the winter on a nice day I take it to a self serve car wash and wash the car down even the bottom, and the rust is crazy! Already the door joins the hood joints the rear lift-gate joints are rusting, and the pinpoint rust spots all over the car "rail dust" is unbelievable, I clay the car every spring because its so bad, and with our other cars like I noted before don't have as much rust being OLDER cars. Also the inside rear seats refuse to slide like the did when the car was new, which is a cool thing but not a needed amenity. Last thing I care remember is the weather seals around the doors have not lasted the drive and passenger are warn down so much they need to be replaced already but they are not covered under warranty and want, wait for it $300+ for ONE, not both one! One last one, Dodge the Kumho tires you put on the DJ are absolute junk! All in all, The DJ when you look past all its imperfections and hiccups its not so bad. All cars have hiccups some worse than others, and the DJ well maybe worse, the Camaro (98) has had a lot more than the DJ so far, maybe when the DJ is as old as the Camaro it will be caught up or surpassed the problems the Camaro has had, hopefully not. The Astra has been a magnificent car with really cool features at an awesome price with great MPG. If we had to do it all over again, would we get a DJ? well back in 2010 there wasn't much other choices, and we didn't like the huge round rear of the Chevy Traverse, but liked the GMC Terrain although smaller, dunno about that cars problems but that would be our choice. In todays market, Probably the new refreshed GMC Acadia, or the Terrain, hopefully that will get a facelift soon its due for one, and maybe the GMC Granite which supposedly will be headed to production according to GM (Voltec platform?) Well I will try to get pictures up of the gaps and some of the paint problems as I stated and try to get the rust, rust is a hard thing to get pictures of.
  14. I would return it for a full refund (some dealerships offer 30 day guarantee and such) No way would I take a car that check engine light came on 1 hour after purchase, thats a for-shadow of things to come!
  15. Our 2010 DJ SXT does the HUGE clunk from reverse to drive, a loud clunk going into reverse and Drive as well. I wonder since the 09s had a lot of problems if our 2010 will already have the flash that everyone seams to have had to their DJ. If not I think Monday we will bring her into the dealership to get the flash done, but from our experience with our dealership this will say there isn't a flash, it should have it blah blah blah.
  16. I would agree with Bramfrank, as synthetic is most appropriate for high performance machines. My bike and our DJ have synthetic. Engines are not like they used to and don't "die" after 80K they are designed to break, so dino is fine, I would at least go semi-syn. And like Bramfrank said sludge will not happen with any oil if you follow the oil change schedule. But with synthetic it will last longer between changes although i wouldn't push it. On the Vette forum most of those guys there use redline oil or Amsoil. We use Amsoil as well. One thing to keep in mind is there are only a few oil refineries in the world that supply engine oil and most oils key differences are the chemical packages that are put into their specific oil. When it comes to filters, the Amsoil filters are great but expensive, the best bang for the buck has to be purolator pure one filters, stay away from Fram as their filters have cardboard caps and such and personally wold not put them in our cars. Since we changed from dino oil in our DJ to Amsoil synthetic we have seen a increase in MPG of about 3-5MPG depending on time of year and such but the increase in MPG is not enough to offset the additional cost of Amsoil (specifically) oil over dino or semi-synt. oil. But it is just a perk to us as we would put it in our car either way.
  17. dang, what do you ride if you don't mind me asking from a previous comment I suspect a Yamaha? and by "one of my motorcycles" probably not only one? I also have a bike, I have an 09 Triumph Thruxton, love that bike to pieces.
  18. Hmm, we had an issue with the license plate lights melting to the sockets and the wiring harness was replaced under warranty, that was 2 years ago, also a good first thing to do is check fuses and try installing a new turn signal bulb (didn't say you tried that) maybe sone of the filaments burnt out. I looked on chiltonlibrary.com and couldn't find any wiring schems. for the journey. Hope you find out whats going on, last thing you could do is take it int the dealer.
  19. Dang Bramfrank, what do you do for a living? j/k Seams like your in the automotive business in some aspect. haha good information.
  20. yeah, all cars will have complaints, then that even isn't fair because some they don't take into account the sales and other things to show the complaint ratio.
  21. I saw they do do investigations into things though, which I only guess leads to recalls. You should head a recall for the Buell 1125R/CR I almost got one and every 2009/10 1125 have a stator problem and Harley Davidson haven't done anything to fix it.
  22. yeah they are also great all weather blades as well so no need for two sets.
