  1. I saw the same thing. We love ours so far.
  2. i cant say that i've noticed this much. when it kicks off, there is almost always going to be more room in there. there is usually some form of an air gap for expansion in the tank. plus, you can usually add some of the filler tube to the capacity. i drive a '08 expedition at work. i do the same thing with pulling the nozzle back and running it slow. i can always get another gallon in it. and it doesnt "fill to the top" and stay there, either. my wrangler has developed the "kickback" problem. the fuel nozzle will cut off... then theres a gurgling sound and 1/4 gallon or so of gas will spit back up out of the filler neck. be glad you dont have to deal with that. lol...
  3. there are some forums (like allpar) that have that... and yes... its annoying.
  4. changing from a 6x9 to a round speaker would not really improve much. you'd need an adapter plate as well. i've had some truly excellent sounding 6x9 speakers. many times all thats needed is a baffle behind the speaker, too. as for the Kicker replacements. i have two pair of the Mopar Kicker replacement speakers in my 2007 Wrangler. Mine had the Infinity system in it. The Kickers made a vast improvement in sound quality, midrange brightness and clarity.... but nothing on the bottom. I've got a 10" kenwood sub in the back, which addresses that shortcoming.
  5. Ours is a Mainstreet, and the rearview camera is the stock one. i'll (hopefully) add the front camera at some point in the future. as for DRL's, i dont see the point in having them on in a reduced lighting level. to me, they should either be on or off. i got into the habit of avoiding them when they started filtering into some of the US cars when I was in the military. It was certainly annoying back then when standing on a gate, and you couldnt turn the headlights off approaching the gate. As a MP standing on the gate, you couldnt see what was coming at you. anyway. times change. someone asked about it and mine will turn the DRLs off and on.
  6. i cant seem to find where the discussion was before... but... i FINALLY thought about it last night and tested it. i can turn my DRLs on and off through the 8.4 in our journey. make it known that i DO have the lockpick. not sure that is a difference. also, make it known that they are VERY dim and can not be confused with the headlights being on at night.
  7. my 2011 is supposed to have the function. i've seen it on the screen as i scrolled through the funtions... didnt try it, though. :-/ more pics. :D:D
  8. wow. and Jeeps took 2nd and 3rd places! bravo for Chrysler!!
  9. So. A couple of weeks ago, we had to go up to Macon, GA for a doctor's appointment. I worked it out so I would have an extra off day at work... and we went up to Helen, GA. During the trip, we saw a solid 24.7mpg return... with my lead-foot. The 3.6 provided ample power to propel the Journey up the rolling hills of N.GA with nary a whimper. The transmission which is normally at home did hunt gears a bit. Switching to "manual" mode resolved that. I kept the engine in the 2,000+ range and the car felt like a rocket ship. At one time, I was playing tag with a Jaguar and Porche Panamera on the winding GA-17 north of Helen. It was a great trip. The standard "coolers" in the floor kept our drinks cold. The rear cargo area swallowed our stuff and I could still see out the windows! Taking a pause on GA-348 at an overlook DONT WE WISH!!!! playing chase with the Porche
  10. HID conversions have mixed success. the reflectors are designed for the bulbs that fit them based on size and element position. if the replacement element (LED or HID) is not in the same location, then the light output it effected. if your first swap was successful, the next one may not be... just a heads up.
  11. Ramrod is right on with this. The LX (Challenger, Charger, 300) guys have been modding their cars for years and there are several kits on the market for the 3.5 LX cars. drone is an issue for some. the 50 series is a great bet, as is resonators or mufflers at the end. Flowmaster's latest kit for the 3.5 Challenger had a mid muffler (50 series or super 44) and had resonators at the ends...which looked like their 10 series mufflers. unless its a kit, then there will be some experimentation. coolram.... can you post/link any pictures? also... video? i can guarantee i wont be able to sell the wife on it, but i still want to hear it.
  12. i have the 2011 Journey and agree that its far better than the previous generation. as for being behind GM and Ford? disagree. I have been in the Escape and Edge. The design of the Edge is nice, but... the "feel" is cheap. I think the layout is spotty on the controls... more scattered. The exterior is not as nice. i'm not a huge fan of chrome, and the fat chrome grill is nasty to me. the sport version is nicer, but FAR pricier. As for GM. the plastics are ugly and hard with the feel of a tonka toy. i sat in a friend's Traverse. the interior has a nice layout and the seating room is decent... but the cargo room in the back suffers with the rear seats up. (seating for 5) The Journey has lots of room with the 3rd row stowed. The seats of the Traverse are my biggest gripe. That two-tone textured/netted look may be appealing, but the seats in my '07 Rubicon have the same basic material. they are a PITA to clean, much less KEEP clean. I prefer the darker, softer seat covering in our 2011 Journey and I'm very happy we have it.
  13. if it wont void your warranty, ask them if they're willing to install an oil catch can on your engine. We had a 2010 Challenger with the 3.5 before the Journey. While more popular with the 5.7 and 6.1 engines, Challenger owners were installing the catch cans on the 3.5 and (not suprisingly) were finding a variable amount of oil being pulled into the intake. The catch can installs inline on the main EGR vacuum line to the intake. we had not oil loss on the two oil changes i did on the Challenger when we had it, so i never installed one. I do have moderate oil "loss" (consumption) on my '07 Wrangler, so I will at some point install one on the 3.8... which is a known oil consumer. Oh. Some Challenger owners also found that by changing the type of oil, the consumption would reduce. Most were switching over to synthetic oils... which is was i did from the start and could be the reason why i never had an oil consumption problem.
  14. it nags at me a bit... but... "feeling" the transmission shift gears is perfectly normal. the "firmness" is more or less whats important. if its too firm or too soft (oozes into gear). The CVT my in-laws' freestyle doesnt have gears, so you never feel it. besides that. i have a 2011 with the Pentastar and 6spd. i love it. its been a long time since i've had something with this much power driving the front wheels. the Journey is pretty heavy, but that new engine hauls it around with authority. the car we traded for the Journey was a 2010 Challenger SE with the 3.5 and 5spd auto. it hauled butt, even with "only" a 250hp/250tq rating.
  15. guess he bumped his head and forgot ...... they make similar brakets for the TJ Wranglers.
  16. coolram... is this the intake for the 3.5? this is the only engine supported according to K&N's website. thanks
  17. wow. $330 for an elbow, filter and shield? thats alot of money. i would expect for that cost, there would be an entire replacement from the filter box to the throttle body.
  18. i went to K&N's website and registed for updates on the journey.... nothing yet, obviously. on a side note, i pulled the cover off the engine last night and took a look. i cant believe how far that stinking intake snakes around under there. wow. looks like it was done to cut down on intake noise. NVH was a big deal.
  19. i installed mine this past thursday night. took maybe 30 minutes. tucked the module up OVER the stereo... essentially right below the screen and to the right.. i had very little trouble with the harness. it fit nicely. i didnt add any options for ours. cant afford it yet. DVD in motion and rear cam activation works like a charm. very happy.... and theres plenty of room to upgrade later.
  20. excellent. another happy owner.
  21. if i used the right conversion calculator..... we're finding that the window sticker is fairly accurate. 17mpg in city driving (13.836152 liters/100 km) and up to 27 (8.7116512 liters/100 km) on the open road. ofcourse once we get into traffic, it drops like a whiffleboat.... but its better than the 14mpg i average a tank in my Jeep. so. i'm not complaining.
  22. the bad part is that i have the tendency NOT to leave things alone. i've already been poking through some of the "options" wonding... hmm... how much trouble would this be to add.
  23. I feel confident chiming in now. The Journey is pretty much just what I expected. Nothing wonderous, but a good reliable mode of family transportation. The design - very clean with just enough "edge" The exterior - couple of goofs in dealer prep i think... The interior - Fit and finish is very good. Seats are very comforatble until you recline past about 45 degrees. Noise is VERY minimal. Steering feels good with decent weight and feedback. Torque Steer under WOT is fun and managable. Takes a minute to get used to that again after having RWD/4wd vehicles for the last few years. The stereo sounds EXCELLENT. The audio range is perfect. it even plays the lowest bass tones of old techno stuff... like Techmaster PEB. The "punch" you get from a good sub is missing, but the audio is there... and clear! radio reception is pretty good. readability of the display is excellent. Audio quality with the bluetooth on the phone is very good. The Voice Command is spotty... as is ANYTHING using voice recognition. Visibility is pretty good. Minor blind areas, but mostly can be gotten around by leaning a little here or there. Bad? Every once in a while the Bluetooth wont respond. Not surprised. Happens with almost everything Bluetooth I've ever had... but the Journey is far more reliable. Once the Radio was displaying the wrong channel data. After restarting the car, worked fine. Otherwise. So far, so good. Lori has had PILES of junk in the back to include wheelchair, crutches, playpen, toys, diaperbag, Mother in Law (well... in the front, not the back...) No complaints from us yet. I dont know everyone else's auto background.... but .... I've had my Jeep since 2-17-07. anyone who has owned the "new" JK can attest that its probably the worst vehicle for "build quality", "fit and finish" and such........ we traded ..... (-sigh-) a 2010 Dodge Challenger in for the Journey. Having been IN LOVE with the Challenger, we went in knowing that the Journey would not even be anything close to it. So. You can say that we have been happy.
  24. does the tick change with the temperature of the engine? meaning is it louder when first started and quiet down a little or go almost completely away after the engine has been running a MINUTE or more? is the tick more noticable on one side of the engine? (for the v6) it "could" be an exhaust leak. its a ticking sound sure enough. my '07 wrangler had a cracked exhaust manifold. on a cold start the ticking was loud and annoying... but after a couple of minutes it dulled down a little. i put headers on it. Dodge tends to use the flat metal exhaust gaskets. theyre pretty durable, but that doesnt make a leak impossible. or a cracked manifold.
  25. every vehicle i've ever had did this to varying levels..... you should try a crown victoria with a partition.... the whole car vibrates.
