  1. There is a process that will allow plastic bits to be chrome look. One process is called Spray Chrome. http://www.sprayonchrome.com/index2.html Saw another process on Jay Leno's Garage and this stuff is amazing. Thought about getting into the business with just this one product! By the way, Nice looking Journey!
  2. buckeye, I hadn't heard of this before. Is this "feature" noted in the owner's manual? Chris
  3. Ange, Try to get there in the day light hours and do a GOOD walk around. Note ANY and all descrepencies on the exterior and interior. Make sure what you buy is what you get. If it is supposed to have the cargo cover, make sure it is there. If it has floor mats, make sure they are there. If it is right off the truck, YES...Test Drive it and make sure it represents the brand. If the dealer offers, make sure they go over all the features and accessories with you. Make sure any and all documentation comes with the car, Window Sticker, Owner's Manual, Manual for the Radio if available. Get an additional business card from the Sales Person, Shop Manager, and the Owner if you can. You may have to deal with these folks in the future. Good Luck with your purchase!
  4. Love the forum Name! LOL! Coming from a LARGE 60's family that lived in Station Wagons in the summer, I find that the Journey is going to be a nice change from Minivans and SUV's. Chrysler does seem to be able to create niche markets for some folks, and I believe this is one of those. Chris
  5. Thank you for your Service! I loved living in England! (1977-1980). I can see that the Journey would be a good car for those English roads. I am sure that the suspension is tuned a little tighter for the CRD and for European tastes. Should be a great car for going to market and holiday runs. Welcome to the forum!
  6. Zac, In actuality it is NOT the same. Will it hurt your Journey....No, will it void your warranty...No, so in that case it is the same. 5W-30 and 10W-30 are pretty close. The starting viscosity of the oil is thinner at start up and warm up, but the fully warmed engine viscosity is the same. The 5W is thinner than 10W. Basically the difference is like maple syrup at room temp being 10W and maple syrup that has been heated in a microwave for 30 seconds being 5W. For MY vehicles I am hesitant to use 5W-20 due to the extreme thin weight of the oil. This is a heavy vehicle and with oil that thin it may actually burn off more than a qt/ltr in 3000 miles. That is why I won't use it. This is going to be my wife's daily driver and she does NOT check the oil or the tires or the window washer fluid. If it drives and starts, All is good.
  7. Since Ordering ours, I have talked with every Journey owner I can, stopped to talk or tracked them down and asked them some difficult questions. Most would buy again, all are happy with their purchase and only a few have little problems with very minor things. Looking over the needs we had for a vehicle, it suits our purposes quite well. It's good to see someone in the Automotive press being positive on this Journey for a change instead of tied to who is paying for their advertisement budget in the magazine.
  8. Jeff, If the rotors needed turning, they have LESS material to disipate heat and as such may warp quicker and not last as long as you think. I would watch them and if there is any pulsing feel to the brakes, take them back ASAP. I always try and insist on new rotors with a change of pads. Only if the rotors are perfect and you change the pads BEFORE there is an damage to the rotors can you get away with not changing or milling the rotors.
  9. Going to 40 PSI should not be a problem. I would think the MAX Air pressure might though. I tend to check my air pressures with a hand held gauge at least once a month. When traveling, I check them every morning and adjust as I can. Every Oil Change I check the treadwear across the tire in 5 spots and record it. By around 10,000 miles I know exactly what tire pressure works out best for tire wear and MPG. My starting pressure when I get my Journey will be right at 40 psi.
  10. First, Thank you for your Service! My hat is off to you! Second. Through the Base Exchange Service the Cars sold are full US Spec Vehicles. This means you can ship them back stateside with no problem. The time zone thing might be an issue and one that the Chrysler Service might be able to help you with. There may be a DVD update for the European Time Zones they could add for you. I would just make sure that it could be UN-DONE before you ship the Journey Home. There was a Late year change in the Radios from what I have read. I am still uncertain which radio our Journey will have in it. The MyGig site you have listed is one of the better one's. Also, www.wkjeeps.com has a few updates and information on Radios. Most Radios in the Jeeps are the same as the other Chrysler Products. MSGT, USAF Retired
  11. One thing that has not been mentioned is to be ANAL about tire pressures. Have them at or ABOVE the pressure listed for the vehicle. The cautionary side of this is do not have them too high or you will run the risk of having the center of the tread wear more. Fluid changes....Synthetic Oils. While this may not do a lot, it will do something and to me it is worth it. On the AWD versions I do not know what they use in the rear "PUMPKIN" but changing to Synthetics there also will help if it is allowed. +1 on the K&N Air Filters. Hyper Miling.....Changing your driving habits to get better mileage. Look over this site: http://www.hypermiling.com/ There are many little things you can do just driving to get better mileage. This can be done on ANY vehicle! When I drove class A Fuel Tankers, I could get 1-2 MPG better than the rest of the fleet due to my methods of driving. In my POV's when we travel my wife routinely gets 2-4 mpg less than when I am driving the same vehicle. Put her in my Jeep, reset the overhead computer, and her average is always 4 mpg less than when I drive the same roads. Now with my Camaro, my normal driving is 23 mpg in mixed driving. If I pay attention and soft pedal the Camaro Ive's seen in the high 28-29 mpg area.....But WHO drives a Camaro that way? LOL!
  12. Sounds like an unbelievable deal! If they put a contract in front of you with these figures I'd sign in a heart beat. Maybe it is your area that has these incentives? Our deal was Supplier pricing which is 2% under invoice, with the $1500 rebate and a $500 retired Military bonus. I felt that was a pretty good deal for ordering a vehicle to our specs. None of the local dealers had a Journey that was close enough to what we needed. Either too stripped or too loaded, that is why we ordered the car to our liking. Good Luck with yours
  13. As Swerve stated, I'll bet it is in the remote circuit. Is it a FACTORY Installed or Aftermarket installed Unit? If it is the Factory Unit, of course they will look it over. The Aftermarket one is only going to be as good as the install shop that did it. If they are reputable, they will stand by it and try and make it good for you. Good Luck
  14. Should be some sort of lowering springs available through Eibach or another manufacturer. Possibly coil-over spring too. Of course you will sacrifice some of the ride, but the handling will pick up. Make sure to factor in a full alignment into your costs for this upgrade.
  15. Markus Welcome to the Forum! I think you are going to have to go to a Dealership and see if there is a DVD for Maps for Brazil/South America and have those installed. There should be nothing to preclude this unit from working in Brazil other than the lack of installed maps for it to find. I tried to look around for them because I am sure that there is a Chrysler Part Number for this. I am sure a local dealer would have this information. Chris
  16. Do you have the iPod cable or do you have it plugged into the AUX port on the front? The only full functional cable I've found is via this information... Taken from http://www.wkjeeps.com/iPod.htm
  17. Waiting here also, maybe another 30 days! YIKES! Enjoy!
  18. Sounds like a nice one! My jury is still out on the Sat Radio stuff. My Camaro has the XM and between the drop out in the city and the advertising cropping up on some of the channels, I am getting tired of it. Out of ALL the channels, I only listen to about 5 and some in I can't get because of the package I have. I don't want to pay more to get less if you know what I mean. A neighbor of mine loves it because he is a traveling sales person in the southern tier of NY State. The Radio stations SUCK down there as I found out when I was driving Tankers in the same area. At least with SAT radio, you can listen to what you want. Good Luck with your Journey!
  19. Thank for the reply and adding the 2009 to your signature block. The reason I ask is I am trying to figure out what is going on with these 2009's. It does seem like it's mostly an 09 issue and something must have changed in the 10's. It's got me slightly worried and I don't even have our Journey yet.
  20. Jealous of the Car.... NOPE! I have friends at church that have the Pontiac version and they are finding out that with two car seats for two boys and all their gear, it's just TOO fricken small. I would feel the same way. I need to haul multiple grand children around and I am trying to minimize the car seat issues, hence the jump style booster seats that my Journey will have. But...for young folks, the Vibe is a GREAT Car and one that is much fun to drive if you like holding the gears. Not much torque but that engine is so nice running through the gears to redline! LOL!
  21. Ship Date is set for the 16th of June which means the Journey will be sitting for a few days before it gets shipped out. Build date is supposed to be the 8th. I wonder if the factory puts any protective coating on the top before it goes into the holding area? I've never seen a Journey right off the truck so I don't know. They also said it could be up to 30 days after the build date before we might see it.
  22. Jeff, I was wondering if you have a 2009 or a 2010 model?
  23. Looks Good! Another method I have had good luck with is using Goo-Gone. I put it on the back side of what I want to remove and let it sit a minute or so. I then lift an edge and add more Goo-Gone as it comes off the panel. With a little patience it comes off in one piece and with all residue off the vehicle. I like the clean look of a bare tailgate. It also makes folks wonder what they are looking at too! LOL!
  24. No updates yet. May hear from the dealer today. Holidays always seem to set things back a bit. I'm working a LONG day so I won't get the chance to call and get an update. Hoping the schedule was moved up, but I know all good things take time. Looking at some upgrade pieces like the floor mats and maybe some trim pieces.
  25. Yep same motor, we just have a little more weight to haul around in the Journey. Should be adequate for most folks I would think. Our test drive with a brand new R/T on roads we knew gave us no surprises. Had a Rental Journey for a long weekend and it did even better, being a broken in vehicle with a 8,000 miles on it.
