cody168 got a reaction from dhh3 in Rear Screen from the DVD entertainment package
I can live with the low res of the rear screen. However I cannot figure out how to make the rear screen to display true full screen 16:9 (or full screen anything with out the picture been stretched sideways).
When I play a 16:9 DVD, the front screen will show top and bottom black lines, and supposedly the rear should "automatically zoom-in" to eliminate the black lines to archive full screen.
I can only assume the in-dash DVD is sending 4:3 to the rear screen even the DVD itself supports 16:9, or it didn't recognize the DVD as such.
Could some one provide insight? or is there some specific DVD needed in order to archive full screen 16:9 (for the rear screen) without the black lines? Thanks.

Yes - you only need to replace the screen itself. it is an assembly that you can buy apparently find used for between $150 and $800 on eBay, based on my quick search there.

    As a new part I see the price as $1500 for the screen - discounted to about $950 . . . . .

Interesting enough it seems that you can even buy a screen protector for it.

FCA's OEM mapping is woefully out of date and while traffic data for Canada is broadcast, for some reason Sirius does not enable it, even though the manual says we're supposed to have it for 5 years gratis.

The base map has nothing to do with the details you see - it is only used to provide some minimal information when you are outside of the coverage of the main maps.
One really nice thing about the RB5 is that is combines both GPS AND dead reckoning, something very few navigators do - it allows the unit to work in garages and through long tunnels without losing lock.

6.22 does not update the maps, you need the actual map update which normally has to be purchased from Chrysler. The problem is, the map info they provide is terribly outdated, and their updates are few and far between. In addition, even trying to order a map update is cumbersome. You must get a 10-digit number from your radio, enter it in a website form, and then load a USB stick in your vehicle which supposedly copies the version number and other info. You then load the stick into your home computer and it's supposed to check to see which map version you have. Problem is, for me anyway, it never works and all I get is an error. There is no way to order a map update without going through this ridiculous process, and I was unable to order an update. You can look at what map version you have via a screen on the radio, so why this isn't good enough to be able to order a newer version I don't understand.
Years ago, it USED to be easy, the would issue map updates every year, so you could order accordingly ("2011 update", "2012 update", etc.). Even then, the maps were a couple years old, I found out the hard way. I ordered a new disc and paid $150. Upon reviewing the disc I noticed that the files were two years old. I contacted navteq several times to request a refund, but they never even bothered to reply.
Although not an easy process, I ended up going an "alternate route" and updated my maps with a very current version. I'm not from Vancouver, but I did look up the HWY 17 you mentioned and it is there.
Maybe someday Chrysler will get their act together and offer current updates at a reasonable price, but don't get your hopes up.

Here's an interesting tidbit I came across:
You can directly capture screen shots from your 8.4" UConnect to a USB flash drive,

You hold down the drivers side up temperature and down temperature button and the rear defroster button, ALL AT ONCE!

After a couple of seconds, you will see the screen flash, then about a second or two after, you should get a "screen shot successful" message!

It will save them as 640 x 480 *.BMP picture files.

Go into the main settings menu (not the one in the nav, but rather the lower right hand icon on the main display) and select display and then under units choose US.

Not on any of mine (I have the original RE2 and two RB5 radios and they all work the same) press and hold the two left side temp change buttons and the front defrost - all three at the same time - for about 5 seconds and voila . . . dealer screen. That works with both RE2 and RB5 radios.
