Hello Everyone, I have a 2009 2.4L (4 cylinder) Dodge Journey. It is not a bad car, when it works. The problem: I was having a problem for about 2 years, where all the gears on the dashboard were selected/lit and the car would not start (no crank, no click, car had full power everywhere). It was an intermittent problem and would happen about every two months. If the car sat for a few days, out of the blue, it would work/start again. The solution: Short answer: I had a broken ground on the passenger side of the car I had to repair. After that, the car started right up! (All the pictures are below) Long answer/story: Trying to fix this problem, I had... -The battery replaced -Replaced the starter -I re-grounded the driver's side of the car -had the ignition module/switch replaced -I took the TIPM completely apart (no issues there) -had the dealer look at it (could not fix it) -had error codes pulled (Nothing pointing/leading to the real problem) I started looking around the engine and noticed a broken cable on the passenger side. It was corroded badly already (which would explain why the car would work on and off). Once I replaced it, I unhooked the red power cable to the TIPM to reset it (for about 10 seconds), and the car started up with no issues! I am posting this because there was NO solution on the internet about this! People were starting to think it was the range selector, but that did not explain the car working on and off (it drove fine, when it worked). I re-grounded the car (the driver side) like some people have said, but that was not enough. Look around for broken/corroded wires and re-ground the passenger side too. (Running a ground from the driver's side to the passenger side did NOT work for me!) Also, I noticed that some of my anti-freeze was overflowing out of the reservoir and leaking onto a wire harness. Look out for that too. That was not my problem, but that can cause a problem in the long run. My 2009 Journey is 16 years old. The only major thing I had replaced was the brake calipers all around. The electrical system is trash, but it is a good car, when it works Thanks

For low beams, you should need only one relay harness, cap, etc. Did you try changing bad side connector polarity? Sometimes the connector looks like it can be plugged in only on way, but it can be twisted and blugged in the other way as well. It will not work if it is plugged in the wrong way, which discribes/sounds like your problem. Try it and let us know.

Sorry, that never happened to me before. What did the dealer say? -
I call the dealer and he said to get to the filters you have to take the trans pan off to change them. To change the fluid, you need a special tool to remove a special cap on top of the engine. Hope this helps...
-
I double checked my manual and it says there is a filter and the fluid can be changed, but i can't find how to do it anywhere. Every place I look says have the dealer do it. I'm sure someone out there knows. When you find out, let us know. Good luck.
-
If i remember right, it is totally sealed. If there is a filter, we can't get to it. I thought I saw this in the manual. Take a look there to make sure.
-
It is my understanding that it is a sealed trans. If it is a 2009, don't mess with it because it might void your lifetime warrenty.

Just pull on the outer edges of the plastic bezel (pull on the black part, not the grey/chrome part). Take a look at some of my pics and you will see what I mean. Also, open your storage area over the radio(right above the air vents) and open the chill/storage area door. Give it a few good pulls, but still be careful. It will pop off. You could use a screw driver to help, but it might leave marks. Just be careful and you will be ok. Oh yeah, when you pull it off, it will squeek a lot. Thats normal. -
I read online that the Journey express (new 2011 SE version) comes with a single cd player and not the 6 disk changer like on the 2009-2010. I wonder why they changed that? I felt dodge was spot on when they designed the radio system on the 2009-2010. The options and sound is excellent. With the 6 disk changer that can play mp3, I use a DVD disk and one DVD disk holds around 850 mp3s each. With that option on every trim level, I didn't need the harddrive option. I feel removing the 6 disk player from the base model was a big step backwards(on the radio option).

I changed my air filter to a K & N air filter. It helps, but not much. I saw a small increase in HP and gas Mileage. Gas Mileage went up about 2 miles. As fas as HP, I have a faster take off now (I have the 2.4L engine), but nothing to brag about.

Sorry, I looked it up: $22k US. Great deal. Cash for clunkers deal on that would have been sweet.
-
$22k Canadian or Dollar?

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price on your 2011 SE?

When we say "projected", all we/it means is that the light is more focused on the road and not reflected all over the place. Example: I'm sure we have all seen someone (mostly teens in a older car) with HIDs and the light is blinding everyone on the road. The lens on older cars are not "projecting" the light toward the road. HID light is more intense than Halagens so the lens must be made different to "project" the light the right way.

I don't think you can. The front bumper area is mostly hollow. No solid metal structure in there.

I read it. Oh well i guess for us 2009 owners....and what about the brake pads?

Dodge built the new journey 2011 interior ? guess not !
email4walker replied to Burn's topic in Interior
Burn is talking about the 2011 Journey. He is right, they are almost the same. Good eyes Burn. It was pretty odd to change a car style only after 2 years. Around 5 years is when the make a few small changes to save money. The 2011 Journey interior is totally different. it would have cost a lot of money to totally re-design the interior. it makes a lot of sense now that they may have paid another company to "borrow' thier design. The parts are already made. Make a few minor changes and install it. -
It is a common problem. For most of us, we just ended up replacing the brakes and rotors ourselves (if needed). I think only two poeple on here were able to get thier dealer to replace the brakes and rotors for free. I hate to say it, but you are going to have to change them yourself. Don't have it done at the dealer. Go anywhere but the dealer and make sure it is not Chrysler equipment they are installing. If they do, you will have the same problem very soon. The good news is after you have new (different) equipment installed, you don't have to worry about it any more. Chrysler just made a bad choice with the brakes and the dealers are in denial. They don't want to lose money by fixing the problem, so I see them staying in denial for a long time....

Did you do any research before you made that statement? Journey lens(headlights) are made for HIDs also. So yes, there are projected. If you read our theards on this site, you will see how we thought dodge was smart to give owners the option of installing HIDs by giving us project lens(headlights) standard. One owner on here had his HIDs installed by the dealer. Dealers only install options that are meant for the cars they sell (you can't get a Kenwood radio installed at a dealer). If you own a Journey, please do some research about the car you drive. You will see what I'm saying is true (I could prove it and just tell you where to find it on the car, but reading for yourself is better). Also, a good rule of thumb is to never look directly into on coming traffic. HIDs or not, your eyes will adjust to that light and you will have a hard time seeing.....just a thought.....
