Joe Lawson
i have a 2009 dodge journey 2.0(i'll check on that to make sure) the engine light has been on for a few weeks not. it is not running or doing anything differently than normal. i tried the key on-off-on-off-on and no codes appeared. i took the car to auto zone and they tried pulling codes as well but the reader said "no codes" just curious if someone else had run into this before. any help would be greatly appreciated
Rgwog
Just from what I have dug up check to make sure your gas cap is seated properly, or that computer system may have a glitch in it and will need to be flashed.
jkeaton
If the CEL is on, there should be a code, as thats the only thing that normally would make it come on. Try disconnecting the battery for awhile to reset everything and see if that makes the light go off. As stated, otherwise it could be a computer malfunction. FYI, I do not believe the key on-off thing works on OBD2 vehicles, you probably need an actyal code reader.
Joe Lawson
thanks a lot guys. my first thought was the gas cap but that doesnt seem to be the case. ill try disconnecting the battery when its not raining tomorrow and post back here with the results in case anyone has this problem in the future. Don't quote me on this, but if it were the gas cap I think there is an actual "Gas Cap" message on the newer Dodges... If not, it takes a few key cycles with driving before it will reset. Regardless, there should be a code unless it was erased.
Sparkyssxt
Evap system minor leak or massive leak. You would have one of those from a loose/worn out gas cap

dhh3
SOP for most forums. OP asks a question, then fixes it himself, and never re-posts the fix. jkeaton
Sparkyssxt
I've been buzzing through so many posts the last few days I haven't even bothered looking at the dates they were posted. Just throwing my 2c in wherever I thought it may be useful

Just throwing my 2c in wherever I thought it may be useful I've noticed! Ha! Lots of oldies popping up lately with your name all over them! At least you are adding to the conversation and posting useful information... some people do this and don't add anything. They say something like, "yeah, me too." and then we have to look through 80 posts with nothing useful added to them. Way to buck the trend! dhh3
