2011 Journey 8.4 touchscreen Nav

Recommended Posts

We just got the new 2011 Journey LUX with the 8.4 touchscreen Nav and the radio works great the travel link works great but the traffic wont work. Have to talked to Sirius and it seems that under the free one year plan it was left out. I tried to add it and i would pay for it and they said i cannot because i was under contract by Chrysler on this plan and no upgrades. Chrysler said i should get this right now and the refer to travel link and it isn't part of that agreement. In the area i live the Traffic overlay is important can anyone help here. :angry22:

:happy feet: Cathy from Chrysler just called me today and i was told that the problem is fixed and everyone with 8.4 nav the traffic will be turned on. They thought the travel link and traffic was the same after I complained and shortly after others did the same and the light came on. So we will see if they stick to what they agreed and i will post a copy of the letter they said i will get from Chrysler :dogwalk: :dogwalk: .

Well, you'll have to post if you know of something we need to do on our end.

There's no obvious changes to my maps, and nothing to indicate traffic data. I'm assuming traffic data is available for my area, but even browsing the map and zooming in on, say, Detroit, showed no obvious traffic data.

Also tried programming a route...no change. No obvious settings to change or "activate" on the GPS settings or the Sirius settings.

Picked up the R/T Wed and drove to Portland for the Swap meet------the Garmin is VERY slow to respond and could not find many streets that we keyed in , our hand held worked perfect---in to dealers on next Monday to check out.

Got about 18 miles per gallon average---wife's car and she drives fast 85+ on I 5 highway---do not expect much in the way of mileage yet only drove 2K so far.

Found out the Challenger intake manifold will add 18 HP to the motor--will keep an eye on the wreckers

You should be getting a letter from chrysler and this will be turned on by mid april.I will copy and past the letter when i get it to help other out on how to do this.

Just got the update disc and of course it is the wrong disc. it was for a garmin 430N and took it back to the dealer and they tried and no luck. So monday morning while on a road trip i will call chrysler again and ask what is going on. Here is the 800 number they sent me 1-800-247-9753 that is the help center on the letter they sent me.

I am wondering if we in Canada are also to get the Sirus Travel Link?? I have an 2011 R/T which I have had for aproxx 3 weeks now and on the weekend I was looking at my Sirus Info page. The page shows my Sirus Account # and that I have a subscription for the Sirus Radio but not the Travel Link??

Does anybody else in Canada with an 8.4 have the Travel Link Feature of Sirus??

Ok here it is no one has a clue not Dodge or Sirius but i did find out that the traffic is under travel link and we may have to dump the free service to get traffic . The travel link is sirius and radio is part garmin and to get travel you must have the 8.4 nav not just the 8.4 it is 2 different radios. The only one that gets traffic upfront is the Durango. all others its a mess. I should hear shortly back from sirius on the activation of the full travel link which has also a weather radar. so call sirius not dodge because they will tell you yes you do or no you dont depending on who you get. I dodge boys read this please post something for us. But they wont. But will post more as i get it. :rant2:

Sirius Travel Link is not available in Canada. It is a U.S. only service.

I'm in Atlanta, Georgia and my Travel Link is not activated through the free 1year service either.

When I called Sirius, they told me it wasn't even part of the free plan. I spoke with a "manager" at Sirius and he told me I have 1 free year of Audio and after that I have a rollover plan that includes another free year of audio AND travel link. I'm very confused.

Should I call Chrysler/Dodge Customer service?

Not helpful to guys, but I feel justified now that I didn't get nav and got a tomtom xl for $60 instead and can swap it out for an upgrade at anytime. :)

I agree the Navteq system in my 2010 isn't much better. I upgraded my Navteq System earlier this year, it cost me $199. The upgrad went smooth and effortless. At the begining of May, I ordered another upgrade again and it cost me another $199. They sent me a disk and the activation number never worked, so I had to send it back. they replaced the disk but it still never worked. I contacted Navteq and after the third call, they finally admitted they were having some problems with the Chrysler upgrades. I finally got it working after they sent me another Activation code. To their credit the newer map is very good. Unfortunately this whole experience has left "a sour taste in my mouth".

On the other hand, I bought a Garmin 250W back in August 2008, at the time I also purchased a "lifetime" upgrade for $120. It turned out to be a great investment, iIt upgrades both the software on the unit as well as the maps as necessary. I have it setup that as soon as I plug it in to either my desktop or laptop computer, it will take me to the Garmin website and tell me if the software needs updating and it gives me 4 map updates a year. The only downside these updates can take up to 4 hours but I do them at night while I am sleeping.

Just to reinforce what Zmttoxics said, a portable GPS is a good idea when compared to the built in Nav unit. Just my thoughts......YMMV :)

Boy I feel a little lucky after reading some of these issues. I got the 2011 Journey about 5-6 weeks ago and didn't have any problems with the NAV service. The Travel link service works great on the free one year subscription. I didn't spend anytime messing with the traffic link but the travel link is the bomb. All of the weather, gas station prices and theater info is spot on. The map is quick and has all of the newer roads in my area. I loved the junk box in Subaru but dread taking that car now when I need the NAV and SAT. The only thing I don't like about the NAV in the Journey is the horrible voice it uses. My Subaru has a few different voices and accents that blow it away. A close second would be the voice commands, they seem to work but the system sometimes takes me to the wrong SAT station even though it repeats it back properly.

I also like the idea of it automatically being updated anytime I go for service or an oil change, beats pumping discs around.

I'm going to check out the traffic link and see if that works on the free year service.

Now if anyone uses the text messages to speech feature, that would be invaluable as I cannot even find a single approved phone by Dodge. How can you have a feature then not a single phone approved for use, seems they should have not added it until the next update if they aren't ready.

Just got word from Chrysler/Sirius Radio and the 8.4 Nav does not support traffic. It seems that there was a conflict in software. Like to many fingers in the pie. :finger: so it will not do this .If you want this option you must get the newer radio from dodge 2012 models they work. So what you see is what you get on this radio. :shift: The dealerships had no clue about this and we can't blame them on this so maybe we can have Chrysler feel sorry for miss leading us and give us a 2012 radio for free  Yea right but this chapter is closed now.

The Garmin nav in the 2011s is excellent I find. It's not surprising the Chrysler dropped Navteq as it is had terrible past reviews in the media mill.

I know that my little Garmiin Nuvi 250W and it's lifetime updates seems to be better than the car's Navteq System. That is only my opinion only and does not reflect others. Other than that I am very happy with my car. To Navteq's credit the latest update is much better than the previous one.
