Transmission Help

Recommended Posts

Just recently purchased a 2012 Dodge Journey, trans was shifting slightly hard on some down shifts, also after a certain speed the trans would get stuck in 3rd or 4th gear until you shut the car off and restarted it than its fine till you try going to fast again. I brought home scanned it for codes and had a P0729 gear ratio error in 6th, and C0031-62 left front speed sensor signal compare failure & C0034-62 Right front speed sensor signal compare failure. it sat for a few days waiting on plates, I cleared all the codes and tried going for a drive, hoped on the express way and wouldn't shift past like 3rd or 4th gear, even after getting off the expressway, it still wouldn't shift any higher so i pulled into a parking lot, shut the car off and restarted and it drove home shifting fine on normal roads. I tried scanning again and it completely skips the TCM, when I manually go to TCM it says NO Configuration. From what I've read this car doesn't have an actual TCM and is all controlled through the PCM. I'm not sure if it originally skipped the TCM or not now I cant remember now or didn't notice, now thinking about it the the P code was from the PCM and the 2 C codes were chassis codes, but there are no trans codes showing up at all now. I watched a few u tube videos an TCM and they are saying its under the dash board. looking at wiring diagrams only thing is the transmission range sensor, and thing thinking that's what they are talking about. Could that be part of the problem, any have any info or had a similar problem. I have now changed the valve body an solenoid pack, and fluid and filter

Welcome.

Fix these codes first-

For the front wheel speed sensor codes.

If your lucky, replacing both wheel speed sensors could be your problem.

POSSIBLE CAUSES-

IMPROPER RIGHT FRONT TIRE PRESSURE/MISMATCHED TIRES.

CHECK RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FOR LOOSENESS.

INSPECT CIRCUITS/CONNECTOR/TERMINALS FOR DAMAGE.

RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB OR ENCODER FOR DAMAGE.

 FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE.

Regarding the transmission.

First do you have the correct specified type of fluid in it?

The transmission has 3 speed sensors on it.

I would replace all 3 sensors.

Check the wiring to each sensor.

P0729

Possible Causes

RELATED TRANSMISSION DTCS PRESENT.

INTERMITTENT GEAR RATIO ERRORS.

TRANSMISSION SOLENOID/TRS ASSEMBLY.

INTERNAL TRANSMISSION.
