Need help installing oem camera

Recommended Posts

I have a 2013 journey and lucky few to get a oem camera and bezel from the local junkyard for $50. But when I went to install it I did not have the big connections to hook the camera just the small one that hooks to the tailgate. I called around to the dealership to get the harness ordered. But was told that I would have to order the camera in order to get the harness. Do anyone know the part number just for the harness or if I could get a jumper the add in??

The harness was included with the kit in the early models of the OEM accessory.  In 2014 the cable was integrated into wire harness for all vehicles.  For that you need the kit with the harness and there is no part number on the callout sheet of the installation instructions - for that matter I was unable to locate the rear connector for the camera on my 2014 when I installed my own.

Here is a link to the installation instructions for the kit you need:

So I would still have to buy a new camera kit in order to get the harness? And once I get that harness do I have to completely take the factory wires out or do it just get tied in together? It sucks because there is not one video showing how to do it everyone just she the finished product.

My vehicle was/is supposed to have the pre-installed harness - I couldn't find the connector if it was. I ran the wire from the stern to dash and had the dealer make the connection when I brought it in to have the sales code added - he agreed to a price of 1 hours' labour for both (which is apparently the shop minimum anyway).

So, yes.

Ok I finally was able to get the camera set up. I was thinking that you could just get a jumper like you can on the charger and challenger. But I had to replace the whole tail gate harness luckily it wasn’t that bad of a job. Plus I couldn’t complain to much since I was able to get it for $30 when the dealership was wanting $150+!
