  1. Anything over 5000k is pointless, really 4300K is the ideal temperature for putting light down the road in my opinion. Not to mention, unless you are retrofitting your headlights with a proper lens and cut-off you are just wasting money. Aftermarket HIDs are more disruptive to other drivers than they are helpful to you. Look at any vehicle with stock HIDs and you will see they are behind a lens and have a proper cut-off so as not to blind oncoming traffic. Not to mention very few stock HID systems exceed 4300K. 8000k is just for looks, It puts out far less lumens than 4300K or even our stock Halogens....... Go here is you want to learn how to build a proper HID light for our Vehicles. http://www.hidplanet.com Copied the follwoing from: http://www.audizine.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-352911.html Here is some good info to help people decide on what to look for before they buy a HID kit. Some important information I came from this site (http://www.delonixradar.com.au/hid-xenon/colour-chart.php) and this site (http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=94774) "Colour temperature ('K') vs brightness...It is a common misconception that higher colour temperatures (K’s) produce brighter lights. This is not true. The colour temperature only determines the colour but not the brightness of the HID light. The Colour Temperature is simply a scale represented by the Kelvin Temperature Chart (hence the abbreviation “K” or “K’s”) as decpited above that measures the colour of the light output. Typically, the higher the colour temperature, the closer you get to achieving bluish to purplish light colours." and "The higher the Kelvin, the less light output you get (lumens). With that said, anything over 6000K is basically a waste. So, what is the best bulb? IMO the 4300K is the best, as it has the highest light output. The problem, though, is that they have a yellow-ish tinge to them that some people find un-attractive. In that case, 5000-6000k is a better choice for you..... as they have a more blue look to them." Here is a good chart http://www.877hidxenon.com/images/hid_color_chart3_fi8v.jpg Some other good info from this site (http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=94774) And a comparison of Kelvin to lumens; Standard OEM halogen 55W 9006(HB4) = 1100lm (lumens) 4300k D2S Philips = 3200lm (lumens) 4300k D2R Philips = 2800lm (lumens) 4300k D2S Philips = 2400lm (lumens) actually 5800k 4300k D2R Philips = 2000lm (lumens) actually 5800k 4800k D4S/R (brand) = 3800 (lumens) ** brightest in the market 5800k D4S/R (brand) = 3300 (lumens) 7000k D2S other = 1790lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand) 7000k D2R other = 1390lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand) 8000k D2S other = 1180lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand) 8000k D2R other = 780lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand) Higher than 8000k, the light output significantly drops off, causing the light to be almost useless. One should point out that although light output drops off after 8000k, the fact that the light is in the blue-purple spectrum, it still puts a major strain on the eyes of others. More useful information And finally, for anyone searching for information on HID's or lighting in general, here are some important terms to know: (Thanks to HIDPlanet) Watt- Measure of electrical power (w) Volt- Measure of electrical charge (v) Kelvin- Measure of color temperature (K) Lumen- Measure of light brightness (lu) Capsule- technically correct term for a HID "bulb". Candela- Measure of light intensity (cd) Ampere- Measure of electrical current Cut-off- A distinctive line of light produced by the shield in a headlight that blocks light above a certain height in order to prevent blinding of other motorists. Beam Pattern- The pattern of light that is projected onto the ground which includes angle of lateral dispersion, width and depth of illumination. Capsule- Another term for an HID bulb. Some refer to HID bulbs as gas discharge capsules. Optics- The lighting control assembly structured around the bulb, which effects the dispersion of light and it's characteristics to a great degree. HID (High Intensity Discharge)= Gas Discharge Halogen= Incandescence
  2. There have been some documented issues with the nav units in the 2013 journey's. Not sure if this is one of them, but take it to the dealer.
  3. Can you post a link to where you sourced your wheels from? Cheers
  4. Some of the 2013s have defective units. We are waiting for our second unit from the supplier. I would just take it into your dealer, they will get you sorted out. It is likely a known issue. Good luck.
  5. @joj5000: I cannot speak with authority, but my understanding is that my navigation issue was a manufacturing defect that affected a number of units. It is a known issue by both Chrysler and the manufacturer and to my knowledge has been resolved. The second issue, Sirius radio not working, is not common and as far as I know I am one of few to experience it. So like the other guys said, don’t worry, all should be fine. I think the Journey is an average SUV with a lot of good qualities. For the price point it’s hard to beat. We looked at everything else out there and you can buy any number of vehicles for the same money, the difference is what you get for that money. It comes down to what is important to you. We wanted AWD, NAV, back up camera, and a sunroof. The rest didn’t really matter. (oh, and the wife really wanted it to be white) These options are available on any number of other vehicles, just not for the price we paid for the Journey. The biggest issue I have had, aside from the faulty head unit, is the slow response to the problem. My understanding is the parts are available, but Chrysler does not seem in a hurry to get them to the west coast. I don’t believe this is under my dealers control, as I believe they are at the mercy of Chrysler Canada in terms of shipping inventory to them. I have been told the part is on its way from the East Coast, which takes 3 weeks. Not sure how that adds up as I can ship all sorts of things from the East Coast much more quickly. If I had a customer who bought a new product from me and there was an issue you would think I would work quickly to resolve the issue. Unless I am not being told the whole story, as in the parts are not available, then the delay would make more sense, but that is not what I have been told. I have a call into the dealer today to run a trace on the part to find out where it actually is. So it is very frustrating as my Sirius subscription is going to waste as we cannot use it. Again, I want to make it clear, this is in Chrysler Canada’s control and not my dealer. My dealer is doing all they can to get the parts.
  6. Well, yes and no, the dealer is part of the problem, but that is only on a customer service point of view. Chrysler/Dodge is responsible for design/manufacturing of the vehicles. While parts are not directly manufactured by Chrysler/Dodge, in the end they are responsible. I am just frustrated that a brand new car can have so many problems. This is not the first new car I have owned, but this is the first NEW car I have ever owned with so many issues. Is it a lemon, maybe..... I could understand this with a 1st gen vehicle, but this is not the first year of production. If Chrysler is aware of an issue with the Uconnect then you would think they would be fixing the issue and having the manufacturer bang them out in anticipation of demand for replacements! Maybe I am crazy......lol In the end it will get fixed, this rant is mainly in pure frustration of the situation.
  7. I wish I could go to a different dealer, but unfortunately they are not very close. It would be more of a hassle to go to a different dealer than to tough it out with this one.
  8. looking good sir! That is very far from camping, but is definatley a great way to travel with the whole family!
  9. Thanks DC, I tried to PM him, but I need 30 posts to do this.... Much appreciated.
  10. I appreciate your feedback redtomatoman and I totally understand the importance of having a good relationship with the dealer. But my issue has been the dealers lack of interest in being proactive and not planning accordingly. We dropped our journey off at 8am, they didn't look at it until 3pm on a friday...... Tell us they will need it back Monday morning, I would have left it but my wife needed her car. The dealer doesn't provide a loaner for service. I know the dealer is not responsible for the defective part, but the dealer is responsible for repairing and diagnosing problems. They knew what the issue was and it was more than likely that they would have had to call the engineering line, but they ignored it until the afternoon. It was a waste of our time to even take the car in. I am frustrated with the whole situation, but I am even more frustrated with the dealer in that they wasted our time. The dealer said that the only tech qualified to diagnose the issue was working on another vehicle from the previous few days. Why book me in if he knew that his tech would be busy all day. Makes no sense..... I am a pretty reasonable person, but I have been dealing with the service manager and in some respects he has really impressed me, but in many more he has not. I don't care about any of the other customers as they are his problem, I only care that he is telling me the truth and making smart decisions. My time is just as important as the next customer, so it makes no sense to waste it when he could have said, you know, we might not be able to get to the vehicle on Friday, it may be better to bring it in Monday morning. Simple....right? Anyway, I am not here to debate the merits of having a dealer in your corner or to find the best way to run a service department, I just want Dodge to be proactive and make replacement units available asap. Having a dealer tell you it could be here in a week, but he is not sure does not instill confidence. Especially after my last run around with this same unit.
  11. Welcome sir! I too hope Sirius brings their travel link service to Canada. Dont for get to post a pic or two!
  12. Welcome to the club. Dont forget to post a pick or two of your new Journey. Also, please keep us posted with your HID upgrade, I know there is much interest on the forums regarding this. Cheers
  13. Welcome to the club. Post up a pick of your new Journey, not to mention one of the old commander. Maybe you have one in tow mode or off roading?
