  1. Oh, apparently they don't come with the Crew up here, but they DO come with the CVP SE Plus and R/T for some reason.
  2. So now there were potentially four: - Me - Chrispollard - Armendegga and _2031 has indicated interest in getting involved with the deal I'm posting the information in-topic top keep track of participants . . when we have enough people I'll re-write to the participants to get their confirmations and then head in to negotiate with a couple of dealers to play them off against each other.
  3. It was sold in Canada, but never appeared on the Canadian web site.
  4. Maybe you'll get lucky and the dealer won't notice that you ran it through the rinse cycle and will pass it under warranty - those things are costly.
  5. Interesting that the CVP SE Plus is now equipped with cross bars where the SXT doesn't mention them - rails only. Also the Crew is now an official Canadian model. I wouldn't have minded getting those bars with my '11 - there is no real purpose to having rails without bars, except perhaps to grab on to when washing the roof.
  6. There are much less expensive handsfree units out there. And if it was the reason, then you souldn't have accepted delivery. While Dodge may well have a kit coming out (and I, for one hope they do and that it isn't tooooo expensive), my experience with the vehicle isn;t tarnished at all by the fact that it doesn't do handsfree when the salesperson originally told me that it did - even the person at the Chrysler pre-sales hotline told me that the truck came with BT. But it was not to be. So I can choose beteen a Scoche unit that plugs into the aux input and a Garmin Navigator that does BT. I wish my iPod could be properly controlled and interact nicely with either of the BT devices in my car..
  7. I am surprised that there has been so little interest in the concept of purchasing Chrysler warranties at deep discounts . . . .
  8. Your dealer needs a lesson in troubleshooting . . . . if you have sound from other sources, but not the radio, the problem will not be in the amplifier that is common to all of the I/O, but rather the with the component that houses the tuner or with the connections to the radio's antenna - probably a cracked trace on a circuit board or perhaps a poor connection to the antenna - a broken wire that makes the connection after the vibratio of starting - itt pulls open when the wires 'shrink' at night.
  9. Fair question. I hope someone with an 8.4 checks and reports - you'd think that since these radios are deployed across the product oine that there would be lots of screaming about the issue - but I hear nothing from anyone. Very strange.
  10. The Evic will be the correct one as it is a digital device. The speedo is mechanical. However neither is truly accurate because the tire diameter is affected by wear and air pressure differences. GPS tends to be very accurate over the long run, but at any individual point in time may well be very inaccurate - and GPS-based odometers are completely off the wall because of an effect called aliasing - since GPS provides one position sample every second, it tends to 'cut the corners. GPS units can clock mileage when the vehicle is standing still due to atmospherics and such - at least we no longer have SA to contend with. If you try to use a portable NAV's tracklog (the factory one is (I believe) not accessible) there will be a real differential between what the odometer reads and the GPS reports.
  11. Assuming that worked, you'd still be subject to the 255 song/1 Gig limitation.
  12. Well, if we're going to make this work I figure we need at least 10 participants. For that I expect to negotiate a minimum 25% discount (which would be the target number for a 'go') anything more would be gravy - people would be committing based on receiving at least that 25% discount. Keep in mind that ANY Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler/RAM vehicle can be included and any mix of plans works . . . I'd also like to look into whether we couldn't get a number of buyers for 'remise a neuf' (zero depreciation) policies for 5-7 years as well - I've had full payoffs on 2 of them over the years and literally multiplied my investment - plus you get a reduction in your deductible for accident repairs AND they pay the price to use new OEM parts over the term of the policy in the event of a fender-bender.
  13. A USB stick won't work if you have more than a gig of music or 255 songs, whichever comes first. It'll only play whatever fits within the limtation.
  14. Without specifics, your post is not worthy of consideration.
  15. I have the 4.3, so there's no SD slot - you'd need to check. But the USB is seriously crippled and I'm amazed that there is so little comment about the limitations on the forums. My solution is to dump an ipod in the armrest.
  16. There isn't a lot of power fed to the USB port and the radio has VERY limited MP3 capabilities - 255 songs and 1 Gig max. I just went through this with my dealer and tech support. And when using a USB-based media source the controls get REALLY laggy and MP3 processing seems to overload the device - the songs break up if they're high bit rate and the tempo of the music actually changes during playback . . . . For some reason they seem to believe that no one has more media than that or cares how the music actually plays back - unless you use an iPod - THAT seems to work with lots of media. Lodge your complaint (I did) and lets get Chrysler to get their media center up to snuff.
  17. Clearly this is a problem associated with initialisation at startup, which implies that it could be unrelated to the radio, but to some other feature in the vehicle overwriting the volume setting on startup when conditions line up a certain way. I've had my Journey with the 4.3 for almost 2 months and have had no issues - perhaps you should list what model and what options you have - perhaps it is something in the specific combination of features in your particular vehicle.
  18. All Pentastar (3.6 litre 6 cylinder) Journeys are E85 tolerant. AWD. FWD. Mekes no difference.
  19. The Pentastar can run E85 without hiccuping, but the 4 cylinder does not like it at all. But ethanol is tough on any vehicle and provides significantly poorer mileage than non-ethanol gas. The reality is that ethanol is essentially 'filler' and reduces fuel economy by more than it's volume. In fact, given the cost and mileage differentials you'd be better off paying 15% more for undiluted fuel. Ethanol is hygroscopic and eats rubber. Ethanol burns hotter too, which does no good for the internals of your engine. The only beneficiaries in the 'corn fed fuel' business are the farmers - and it pushes up the cost of groceries, to boot. We really should be lobbying government to get the corn out of our gas tanks.
  20. Your dealer did NOT inform you properly. You may be able to have your contract adjusted. Did you know that you can cancel your plan and get a full refund within the first 60 days? (It is mentioned in the brochure.) If you got no discount your dealer made 100% profit on his investment and will likely work with you to change the plan to save his profit. Perhaps you could cancel and then join the buyer's group, though before doing that I suggest checking with Chrysler (not your dealer) to see if you can repurchase the warranty if you cancel . . . . is yours even Mopar's product at all? (which could explain why you weren't offered 7/115.) I was quoted $2145 for 7/115 bumper-to-bumper by one local dealer . . .. . . I drive about 15K/year, so that works for me personally - they offer programs for up to 7/160 as well and other plans with coverage to 5/200. A 7/115 'basic' (power train only) would be plan 486 according to the brochure. As a 'Gold' (bumper-to-bumper), it would be plan 419, 7/160 would be the 410 - apparently you can't extend the 'Gold+' (Bumper-to-bumper with maintenance) past 5 years, though it can go to 160,000 km. Here is a link to the current brochures (too bad they don't include retail pricing for these plans in them): http://www.mopar.ca/en/service/max.pdf (Zero dollar deductible plans) http://www.mopar.ca/en/service/2003SCBEnglish.pdf ($100 deductible plans) http://www.mopar.ca/en/service/special_use.pdf (Special use plans - commercial vehicles) http://www.mopar.ca/en/service/Certified%20Pre-Owned%20Vehicles.pdf ('Certified' pre-owned vehicle plans) http://www.mopar.ca/en/service/Quality%20Pre-Owned%20Vehicles.pdf ('Quality' pre-owned vehicle plans)
  21. I am posting it here, but the mods can move it wherever they feel it should be if it isn't the right place - I just don't feel that this is an accessory or a maintenance item. While I mentioned it at the end of a thread I started asking about warranties and such, I feel it needs it's own thread. My idea is simple: Dealers make a 100% markup on extended warranties, which is highway robbery - they also make a HUGE killing on replacement cost policies. So I'm organising a buyer's group and plan to approach some local dealers and get them to drop the prices to something reasonable: For example, the 7/115 bumper-to-bumper retails for almost $2200 - if we buy several I am certain it would be a simple matter to get the price down to or below $1400, which makes it a pretty good deal - not to mention how it improves the resale value of your vehicle. I figure that it doesn't matter what plan each person buys - as long as we have 10 or 15 people willing to buy we have a lot of negotiating power. I can't yet say what the net price would be for any plan, but I expect a discount of AT LEAST 25% from retail, probably more like 35%-40% if I have my way. Your commitment to participate would be based on saving that minimum 25%, though I am confident I can negotiate better than that - that's what I do for a living and I've had quite a bit of success . . . . Anything beyond the 25% should be considered 'gravy', though not unexpected. Note that your vehicle has to be less than 3 years old and have less than 60,000 km to qualify. I was told there is a surcharge for the purchase if the car is older than one year and has more than 20,000 km - I seem to recall that hey told me it would be $250 - even then, that is likely discountable. Your vehicle doesn't need to be a Journey, or even a new vehicle. It can be any product that Chrysler would sell a plan for (including pickup trucks and taxicabs). Manufacturer's plans are head-and-shoulders better than 3rd party ones. So get on board and let's save some serious coin. You would pay for your own plan, presumably with your credit card. Though I could envision the dealers insisting on checks - in which case you would send them to the dealer (or to me, though made out to the dealer) for the appropriate amount. Dealers like certified checks or bank drafts for large transactions. For those not subject to HST and out of Quebec I assume there'd be no provincial taxes to pay (not that anyone in Alberta pays PST anyway). Who is interested? You can post in-thread or you can PM me. I'd like to move this along before they have their next price increase.
  22. Given what we know about costing for extended warranties and replacement cost policies, I wonder if we couldn't set up a buyer's group (in Canada, as far as I'm concerned) and purchase a number of policies from one dealer who would make a small profit on each, but a reasonable overall amount. I was thinking that we might be able to purchase them for about 60-65 cents on the dollar, given that the margins are 50%. A $2200 plan would go for $1,320-$1,430, giving the dealer between $220 and $330 in profit . . . 20%-30% markup, which is very fair for something they don't work to sell. Anyone interested? As long as your vehicle is under warranty you can buy in (though there is a surcharge for cars with more than 20,000km on them). PM me with details of your vehicle - year, model, mileage and what plan you are interested in - I presume we'd be charging these plans to credit cards, which would make the money part simpler to deal with. It doesn;t even have to be a Journey - any Chrysler product likely qualifies. The more people we have in the deal, the easier it will be to get the discounts to the lower end of the range.
  23. Hmmm - why do I think they're full of it . . . . I'd be willing to wager that there are absolutel;y no differences between the 11 and 12 models - perhaps they never installed a remote starter on a 2011? I have the Installogy chart (used by remote starter and alarm installers) for the 2011 Journey . . . . I don;t see anything that seems so difficult . . . . . on the other hand, I wonder if they couldn't just enable the feature by using the star scan and giving you a new fob - after all, the factory remote start is just code in the BCM, though it may require a longer range receiver for the function.
  24. An Express is not a CVP or AVP. Both of these have incandescent bulb tail assemblies. I believe that the reason for the incandescent lighting is that Dodge committed to a production volume in 2008 that was never met - they must have had a whack of tail light assemblies leftover (or simply under contract). Using them in the base models allowed them to offer the LED units while consuming their remaining stock of conventional tail lights. There are four models (officially) in Canada. The SE, SE Plus, SXT and the R/T (which is AWD) - But something has changed for 2012 (the Dodge Canada site is not updated yet for 2012 except for a reference to the 2012 SE in the 'special offers' section) because I saw a 2012 SE and a 2012 Crew in my dealer's showroom yesterday and a couple of R./Ts in the yard that claimed to be 2012 inventory. The Crew is new to Canada. All of the 2012 models they had, including the Crew and R/Ts were equipped with 4.3 inch screens - for 2011 the 8 inch screen was standard on the R/T.
  25. Now I'm really unhappy . . . the dealer called the tech line and was told that 'there is no hard drive and so it can't handle many songs'. Now THAT is a crock - there is an 8 Gig block of memory sitting in my USB key - and the songs sit there. Any limitations, should there really be any are due to poor coding. It also doesn't forgive the impact that playing USB-based MP3s has on the controls and touchscreen of my 4.3 This is simply unacceptable. It ain't over yet. Maybe Dodge wants to buy me an iPod?
