  1. That'd be nice. lol. I don't know why I always find myself with a car with funky hard to upgrade stuff or wanting something that requires me to build a skillset. I might have to look them up and see. I wasn't entirely sure it'd work at all with the AC stuff. Turned out pretty good though. The same seller has a slightly bigger Tesla screen that appears to keep the ac controls on the bottom at all times. Maybe if I make him a series of install videos with more professional camera work and more effort he will give me one free.

  3. Occurs to me someone might actually want to know which radio I bought. https://ebay.us/cZeQt7
  4. lol. My wife wanted all that. Watching cartoons as we drive keeps the kids in check. I'm thinking I might do screens in the headrests for that. The radio has outputs to do it. It really wouldn't be bad if someone had explained how the canbus worked in the settings beforehand and that the CD player part had to be removed to get all the plugs put in. I could do it in 10 minutes now. It was really easy. The hardest part was guessing through the canbus part. That is why I made the video. It is pretty much exactly the one in your link I'd guess but I couldn't say for sure. It has a different canbus box for sure though. There wasn't any splicing or cutting or anything to install. This is the CD player if anyone comes here and wants that EXACT one. https://ebay.us/cZeQt7
  5. I put it in my wife's 2017 today. The radio was $230 for a 4g 8core android 13 one. They are universal android radios with canbus functions built in. They are not specifically for a particular car but they put them in specific dash kits to fit a variety of vehicles. So you have to dig into settings that aren't obvious to figure out how to get things like the AC and the controls to work. I made a video of it. Ignore my shakiness and nasally voice. lol. I lost my nostrils fighting as a kid. I'd assume most of the ones on Amazon would be the same but I wanted the one I found on eBay to get a newer android version. In my experience they don't ever get updated so getting 13 over say 10 is a big deal. I have a older one, 8 or so, in my Challenger SRT8. It is good and has worked perfect. However, this one I installed in the wife's car makes me a bit jealous. I'm definitely going to have to upgrade my F150 now to keep up. AC controls work 100%. Heated seats and all that too if you have it. Lots of things you can activate and deactivate outside of what the factory radio had I think. It came with adapters for everything like the factory backup camera and stuff if you have that. Mine was a stripped down version. It came with a backup camera. It retains the factory USB. You have to use the plugs on the CD player and the Radio - I didn't realize this initially and didn't get why I didn't have power til I realized that the the plug with all the black wires was canbus only and not radio wires per say. It came with the canbus box and all of that. Everything was included. The only wires that don't get used in the dash are the HSD cable(white with purple on it) that runs between the CD player and Radio in the factory setup. It isn't necessary as it only runs between them though. Well, here is the video. I have to pop it back off to install the backup camera(she had to go somewhere) in the next couple days so I could take pictures of whatever if anyone is interested or needs help on what is going on behind the scenes. This is one of the first videos I've ever made and it broke up in the middle. I had to splice it together, so it is the first video I've ever edited too. I'm not a professional, go easy. lol. Here is the video. I'd appreciate a like, comment, or whatever if you watch it. I had a real tough time finding information on switching the radio out and I found little in the way of information. Let me know if you decide to install one based on my experience. If there is interest I'll do a walkthrough of the entire install when I pop it off to install the backup camera. Using a tripod or anti-shake filtering and a better view of the screen to not make it so shaky and not zoomed in. I had to put it on Youtube because it was more than 10mb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjrhdv75w5I&feature=youtu.be
  6. I was looking too and apparently nobody has one or knows how to make it work. I figured, why not, and bought one. I actually uninstalled it and couldn't get it to work initially. Now, I understand it pretty well. I installed one in today for my wife's 2017. I paid $230 for it. It came with everything. It wasn't the cheapest, I just wanted the 8 core 4gig memory one. It controls the AC and all. There are quite a few of them on Amazon and eBay. I'd guess most people give up and never get them installed. In the custom fit ones there is a setting buried in the menus to set up the AC controls. It doesn't just work, you have to figure it out. Unfortunately there are no directions and the sellers don't put the information in the listings. It is a little odd to do but works pretty good to be honest. I made a video today of everything working and showed the settings. It actually does a great job with wireless android auto. Immediate connection and no issues. All the steering controls work, all the AC controls, it shows the doors(and trunk) are open by a picture on the screen. Youtube worked great without any issues. GPS was good. I haven't installed the camera because my wife needed to go somewhere. I did plug the cable in the back of the radio(that is the wifi/bluetooth antenna apparently for some reason) and it brings up the camera screen when backing up. There are a lot of options that you can adjust for the car from the radio. Overall, I'm pretty happy. The fitment to the dash isn't perfect but it isn't bad. I'm going to post the video in a little bit here. I can drop a link if anyone is interested.
  7. It is call a HSD (high speed data). It runs from the radio to the CD player in the factory setup. I got the android unit installed completely but it lacks the ability to control the AC unfortunately. There are only a couple that have the controls that I've seen. Everything else worked great though. I'm unsure if I am going to get an idatalink radio and maestro, spend the $5-600 for the tesla style radio for these cars that actually has the ac control built in, or mount a tablet somewhere. My confusion on the wiring was that I didn't realize I needed plugs from the CD player as well as from the screen itself. The directions on the aftermarket android stuff isn't very good sometimes. It was plug and play aside from being able to switch the vents from blowing forward to defrost and the sync stuff. The AC and all the buttons worked. I'm really thinking if I turn it to the front vents and then install the aftermarket radio and check and see if the defrost button shuffles it back and forth between defrost and the front vents. If I had vents or defrost from the button, I'd be OK with that I think. I don't use the foot heat. I'd be concerned if the battery goes dead it might spaz and I'd have to reinstall the factory stuff to set it back that way though.
  8. I'm installing an android radio and canbus setup. However, the factory radio doesn't work without this plugged in. Unfortunately the kit I got didn't come with an adapter for it. The aftermarket radio powers up fine on 12v on a battery, so the radio works. All the other plugs have a place on the radio/canbus except this one. I don't have an antenna plug on the factory radio unless this some weird antenna plug I need an adapter for?
