As someone stated in an earlier post and in another thread, go to the dodge.com site and type in your vin in the recall section. it does not matter where you are if it is built it will show up, if not nothing will show. I checked ours to see if it worked.. already have it but Canadians and others can check. The Stewie

I will try that with the auto stick to see what happens. I'm a bit leery playing with it and screwing up the tranny but it is worth trying since it is shifting back and forth between the two gears. Thanks, TheStewie

*****I'VE GOT MY VIN**********
TheStewie replied to Hit-By-Thunder's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
I tried our VIN in the recall site even though we have ours to see what would happen. It shows the vehicle correctly a Black RT hatchback. I am in Canada so anyone can use it to see if the vehicle is in fact in process. I tried 20 numbers altogether in sequence and it looks like approximately 1 of 10 is an SE of some sort, 2 in 10 are SXT's and the rest are RT's at least in the VINs near my own. Special orders or just Chrysler's guess at sales I'm not sure. TheStewie -
You are not alone. Our REN system does not show the titles correctly at times and some other small issues but except for display issues it hasn't failed yet. It will be replaced next week. As for the firmware updates try this site. http://mofv.com/mygig/ It has all the info on the various systems and the latest firmware updates that you can install on your own. Complete instructions are there on the site. FYI the core of the system is written by a company called QNX in Ottawa, Canada for most manufacturers. The overlay we see and actual device come from Harman/Becker. The dealer did not have or know of the updates. That site is very informative and checkout the "lockpick" for those of you who like to customize. TheStewie

I see a few others from Canada including you. We are in Stoney Creek and I know there are a couple others around here but the dealer today told me that they have only sold one other in the last month to a staff person. They don't have many on the lot for sure. Perhaps we should try and get the S Ontario Journeys together one day over the summer..

When we looked there were two at the dealer. one SXT and one RT. The one we bought was being driven by the top salesperson. They have a couple more but not many. If you live in Canada and are looking... there is a dealer or dealers in the Toronto Area (Ontario) claiming to have ( at least in one case) 20 Journeys on hand. One of them constantly offers "loss leader" type sales or bait and switch to draw people in. But they might have a car that you want so get your dealer looking. I can also tell you this that on the Canada Special version of the SE, the employee discount off the 19,000 was 2000 because they listed it in one of the ads when they advertised it for sale. A good starting point for anyone looking at an SE and wanting to try and save a bit more cash. TheStewie

Well as to the manual.. I've read a few pages here and there.. you got me there. thanks TheStewie -
I read about the wiring harness issue but could not find it in the forums ( getting tired!) so I created a new topic for it. There is no recall notice in the Canadian gov site as yet but this was in the US site. Itreminds me of one for the Avenger that I read before buying he Journey. look it up. there are several and we may be looking at them down the road. This is the ODI recall notice listing and has the official Chrysler no in it too Make : DODGE Model : JOURNEY Year : 2009 Manufacturer : CHRYSLER LLC. Mfr's Report Date : JUN 03, 2008 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 08V247000 N/A NHTSA Action Number: N/A Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING Potential Number Of Units Affected : 6692 Summary: CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 6,692 MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.5L ENGINE. I find that going between 95km/h to 115km/hr or about 55 to 64 mph we get fairly good mileage. today we went as low as 8.5l/100k which according to the new car sticker is 33mpg. it averages about 13l/11k in the city. We have a FWD RT with 19 inch wheels and everything except nav/dvd system on it. The one issue I have is that at around 90k/h or I think 55mph roughly it seems to be the point where the auto transmission shifts. We have a local highway that has a speed limit of 90k and unless you meet or exceed it slightly it shifts up and down with enough of a force to notice. So far it has lived up to the claims re gas consumption. The Stewie

It is true that if you yank them hard enough they seem to lock up. When you lean slowly forward you could lean right into the dash without it locking so that is why I thought they might be having issues. Thanks. The Stewie -
Interesting about the noise. We had nothing at all until recently. My wife said there was a noise on a hard left turn. Today when driving it indeed made a fairly loud squeal/grind noise and you felt it right up through the steering wheel. Reminds me of the noise and vibration i feel from hvac equipment that have bearing issues but it could be anything. The ac was off. Let you know what we find and I'll print out the comments about the exhaust system. The Stewie.

3500 kms here about 2000 miles I think. Mostly city but today on the highway we actually achieved 8.5l/100km which according to the Dealer sticker ratings is 33mpg. The city driving has been at or below the numbers 12 to 14l/100km We are happy with it of course and only seen one other Journey, black, getting off the QEW in St. Catharines last week. The Stewie

Yep in Canada we are getting screwed with the warranties. It appears that Chrysler is desperate to sell more cars in the U.S. so is offering a much better warranty than up here. We did buy extended up to 100k that includes all oil changes parts etc, additional or extended vehicle loaners and other stuff if the car is in the shop too long. We don't need an auto club membership while we are under the warranty as well. I recall paying $1300 8 years ago for a Pontiac van extended warranty and the last year that we owned it, we changed a door window motor and regulator, a wiper motor assembly and something else that ended up making it worth while. Our radio is being changed already due to a few glitches so I think it will pay. The Stewie

I tried hooking up a Sandisk mp3 player to the USB port. It connected but will not do anything. We transferred music to the drive via a thumb drive. The cd player works too but the discs were not being ejected. The new radio is at the dealer. I hooked up the cable in the glove box and it is a real pain the way they mounted the connector. I haven't tried a true ipod with the connector yet but will shortly.

Canadian 1000 bonus cash??
TheStewie replied to scottstep's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
We took possession just before then I think but the ads for the Canada day sale or whatever it was were out and I asked them if there was anything for the Journey and they said no. That was the day we signed and picked it up so off to the dealer we go I guess. Nice work finding out the dates and such. TheStewie An update.. I called Chrysler Canada today and after putting me on hold, they said yes there was an incentive and no if you did not buy it during that sale you would not get it. I asked him why the ad that came out for the sale on the day that we signed the deal didn't advertise the 1000 incentive. No answer for that. I think it was very sloppy and unprofessional. If we were waiting on a car right now I wouldn't sign anything unless they coughed it up. Some of you are waiting a very long time and if you ordered it shortly before the sale then demand it. Although it is the wrong forum.. a I asked about the lifetime drive train warranty in the U.S.. The response was that they offer a competitive warranty in both the U.S and Canada. So in other words unless someone else does it first or sales stop, no lifetime for us in Canada. -
I suppose We have been fortunate. No smells, no squeaks or clicking of any kind in our vehicle. It may be that the top salesman at the dealer who was driving it and babying it, had it in the shop for everything he thought was wrong. Better for us!! We have 2600km so far on our R/T TheStewie

Canadian 1000 bonus cash??
TheStewie replied to scottstep's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
We picked ours up two weeks ago, it was the only R/T on the lot being used as a demo. They specifically stated that the only amounts being offered on vehicles were for the 2008 models and not the 2009. If they were giving a thousand off of the Journey as well I will bring it up with them but I've not seen anything in Canada about it. There are some dealers in Toronto doing a loss leader kind of sale.. In the end you are not getting as good a deal as you think. They want you on the lot to up sell. -
We leased ours as well. a FWD R/T without Nav/dvd system but the rest. We do intend to buy it out unless it turns out to be repair prone so we put money down. If we walk away we lose a couple thousand but if we bought it we would be stuck with several years of payments while trying to sell it. 3.39 or 3.99 rate for the lease.. prime at the bank is 5% and most dealers finance at 6 to 12% depending on who you deal with so it was cheaper in the long run. Because we do plan to buy it out in full we dropped our payments to 250. You lose 20/thousand off the monthly payment for your car. We are in Ontario as well, the dealers are pretty much sticking to the Chrysler pricing.. I called several and they were very close in pricing and some wanted money down before talking price.. don't do it you will not get it back if you don't buy.

I find your post interesting because my wife and I have found that the seat belts do not seem to tighten up all the time. You can freely pull them out without any lockup. It needs to go in for a radio change so I'm going to be calling the dealer about this issue. It is also a V6 but we have ha no loud noise at all on startup or any other squeaks rattles etc it the R/T. our VIN ends in 192377 TheStewie -
Using the usb port you may be able to hook up a usb external hard drive or a large memory stick with video files on it. It would take a while to transfer but if the video is in the right format you should be able to view it on the screen if the system allows it. I haven't fully investigated putting video on the drive but it might be possible to do it that way.. Still learning all the various features in the car.

Hello everyone. My wife and I picked up a Journey R/T last week after upgrading from an SXT. We chose a black "pearl" version without AWD or the NAV package but everything else including those nice 19" wheels and chrome rims. The salesman happened to be driving it and it was the only R/T available for weeks. They only had 2 or 3 on the lot as well. The tow package was supposed to be factory installed and I discovered that in fact we paid for it and it was not present nor was the cooler. The dealer has ordered these items and is going to install them without charge. I am surprised to find dealers telling you that a factory option has an installation charge. The parts person who looked into the package showed me the cooler connection drawing and I heard him tell the boss to order the 7 pin harness to be installed. I'm not complaining.. Our Mygig radio system is being replaced due to some software glitch. The radio works fine but the cd/dvd player refused to give the discs back for 30 min and the screen pixelizes. The second attempt resulted in it trying to eject the cd while the screen was in the closed position. No big deal it is some software issue. New tech always has glitches. I am interested in the recall that was mentioned earlier. Nothing on the recall databases and I would like to know if it concerns the seat belts. They don't seem to lock properly all of the time. We love the car and most people who have seen it wish are very impressed with the leather seats and interior. So when you all get yours, You will be envied by all of your friends. We have only seen one other one so far after driving both highway and city for a week. Still a pretty rare vehicle on the road!! And for those who wonder, we chose to lease for 2 years. I figured out the costs and found that within a couple thousand they were the same to buy or lease with a down payment due to the interest rates. We put money down because we intend to buy it out with warranty but if it turns out to be too much trouble we can walk away still.. We are very happy Canadian Journey Owners... One more thing. put the bug deflector on. The second day we had it we already had a fine stone chip near the front of the hood.. wish we had right away... The Stewie
