  1. Anybody know what the front rotor runout spec is for the dodge journey? (2016 SXT 3.6L). Rotor runout is when you attach a dial with a needle against the rotor and spin the rotor and it shows any warpage present in the rotor. Measured in mm or thousands of an inch. Most manufacturers, the spec is between 0.001 and 0.003 inches. Called the dealership and they said 0.007 which seems wrong IMO as that much warpage would for sure be felt in the steering wheel while driving. Searched online but couldn't find anything.
  2. Lmao well I'm glad one or us fixed his Ac!
  3. Will do. I'll also get a professional alignment done this week as well just in case. Ps: we don't have front upper balljoints on the dodge journey, only the one at the lower control arm.
  4. I'm getting a weird tiny bit of vibration felt in the steering that has been ongoing since winter. I changed my balljoints, tierods, stabilizer links, stabilizer bar bushings, struts, and balanced the tires. Im suspecting a couple things: -wheel bearing starting to go even though it's not making any noticeable noise -rotors and brakes were changed last summer but we're cheap brands so maybe the rotor is warped already? Thought I'm not getting any vibrations when braking. -wheel alignment? I did a manual alignment myself for the toe and got the exact measurement of 65 1/2 inches between both front tires. No pulling, and my steering wheel is center. Edit: also maybe engine mounts since I get a slight vibration when starting the vehicle cold for about 10 seconds. Any other ideas?
  5. I figured it out. It was the stabilizer bar bushings. I used aftermarket ones that were way too tight and the stabilizer bar wasn't able to flex properly. I swapped to the OEM bushings that have the little fiber mesh inside of them and it stopped the noise.
  6. I thought for sure it was the upper strut mounts as well. I had 1 month old monroe quickstruts in there and thought they went back so I swapped them out for my old pair of struts that I know had no popping noise , and the noise is still there. And yes i lower the vehicle on its own weight before tightening the tower nuts to spec lol
  7. both directions, and also when driving straight and going over bumps. I've been researching it a crap ton the past day lol. Found some people who owned dodge avengers with the exact same noise, and even does it in only warm weather like mine.....seems to point to the steering rack fuck my life.
  8. I'm experiencing popping noise that can also be felt in the steering wheel and gas pedal. Happens when going straight and when turning. Ruled out my strut bearings, stabilizer links, stabilizer bushings. Checked my CV axles and theres no play in them from what I can tell. Sounds like the popping is coming from center of the car when listening inside. Also seems to happen more in really hot weather. Mornings when it isn't as hot as the daytime doesn't do the popping much, but by afternoon in our heat wave, it does it like crazy!!! What do you guys think? 2016 journey sxt 3.6L 80,000 kms
  9. The sway bar end links are brand new as well. Thankfully they didn't charge me. I might have the dealership look at it but i'm extremely hesitant because I brought it there for an oil change and then suddenly my AC stopped working.....i could be paranoid but i do know some mechanics who purposely cause another issue to happen so that you have to keep coming back to them. Another reason why i try and do my own work myself.
  10. Got a call back. They can't figure out the issue. Sigh. Guess i'll just learn to accept it.
  11. Thanks man. Hope you get your issue fixed too. Sometimes it's not worth the headaches of bringing it in. My brand new chevy cruze had issues from day 1 and the dealer couldn't figure out the problem so i just learned to ignore them and drive it.
  12. Dropped off the suv this morning. Worried that i'm just wasting my time. It's so tough when the noise doesn't happen all of the time. I replicated the noise for the mechanic and he will check it all out but like i feel like i'll just end up paying for them to not find the issue. I think that's why i waited years before getting it looked at because i was waiting for the issue to get worse so it would be easier to exhibit the noise. Ah well. fingers crossed they find it.
  13. Yeah, he told me to be there for 8am when he opens. I was there at 7:50am....then 8am...then 8:15 am...and he still wasn't there so i left. A shame, because he does have really good reviews but maybe those people are his buddies giving him those good reviews. Ah well. Have an apt at another reputable shop tomorrow morning.
  14. What would be a realistic amount of money to pay to diagnose this? In Canadian currency lol. I'm thinking $100?
  15. Yeah I have an apt with a mechanic tomorrow morning. Supposedly he's really good. Hope he is, because he was a bit of a jerk on the phone but hey, if you know your stuff and do your job well, then I'm okay with the sub-par attitude. I'll let you guys know the findings (assuming he figures it out, fingers crossed)
  16. The interesting thing is that this rattle hadn't gotten better or worse since I bought the vehicle in 2017 with 55,000kms. I've only recently noticed it more because I changed my strut assembly and now my suspension is stiffer so the noise happens a bit more often compared to when I had the stock mushy worn out struts. (I have the Monroe quick struts on now. Lifetime warranty yay!)
  17. Thank you. That's much more acceptable of a price. Here are two videos showing the rattle/clunk when hitting bumps while turning the steering wheel.
  18. I'll see if I can capture the noise on video and upload it
  19. ouch. Hoping it's something easy like loose mounting bolts lol.
  20. The noise itself is high up in the steering, and can be felt in the wheel itself. I grabbed the bottom of the steering column and shook it around but it was on tight, so i'm wondering if its at the joint higher up, as seen in this image. I changed my sway bar links, as well as my stabilizer bar bushings so that rules those out. But again this noise can be pinpointed right around the circled area in the pic. Wondering if there's any bolts holding the top portion of the steering column in place, that loosened up?
  21. When turning the wheel all the way to the right and driving over bumps I get a clunking that's coming from the steering wheel itself. Almost as if the steering column is loose and banging around. Only 80,000 km on this 2016 journey 3.6l. Anyone ever experience this?
  22. Sorry what i mean to say, is which of the 3 wires on the plug am i jumping to each other?
  23. Yeah i had found the plug itself and cleaned it off and reconnected it the other day, but how would i go about jumping it? Normally for other vehicles you can go to to the relay in the fuse box and jump it there, but my 2016 doesn't have a relay for that.
  24. Ooooooohhhh how do I jump the low pressure switch?? That will help figure out what the issue is!
  25. Well I mean it specifies r-1234yf on the hood of the car and the connector ports for 1234 are a different size than r314 so yes I'm sure it's the right freon. But as you mentioned, I'm also thinking the valve isn't opening when the attachment is on it, otherwise I'd have been able to drain a bit of pressure by connecting the hose and unscrewing the empty bottle slowly but when I tried that no pressure was being released which is another reason why I want to try manually pressing the release Valve. I'm not going to go crazy head over heels into this issue but again, the bare minimum checks to at least give me a reasonable idea as to what's happening.
