  1. I have an engine light on for P0456. I scanned the computer and it says "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (very small leak, check fuel cap, piping, etc.)

I replaced the gas cap and cleared the code. After a few days of driving, the code came back again. Any similar issues for anyone on the forums?

  2. So I ended up just going through the relay route.

    4 Pin Relay

30 - Trunk Cigarette Lighter with an inline fuse

    86 - Reverse Light

    87 - Backup Camera

    85 - Ground

Took off the entire trunk lining and routed the wiring through the firewall.

    Bought this: https://www.amazon.ca/Waterproof-4-3inch-Tft-lcd-Rearview-Assembly/dp/B0154GTSYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503946415&sr=8-1&keywords=backup+camera+mirror

Fits well. You lose out on auto dimming unfortunately.

  3. Hi I have a 2011 Dodge Journey 3.6L.

I tried installing a backup camera triggered to the reverse lights but it doesn't work. Checking the voltage at no load (Camera and Reverse light Disconnected) I get about ~12.3 V. However when adding the Camera only the voltage drops to ~11.8 V. Adding the reverse light back to the picture, voltage drops again. Reverse light still works but backup camera doesn't work.

I use to have a 2009 Dodge Journey and I've installed a backup camera before and had no issues.

I could add a relay and tap into some other power but I need to know what else I can tap into nearby. Not sure why I'm getting a low voltage reading, can anyone chime in?

  4. Never noticed that in my 09 in the 80,000 miles we owned it.

My friend has one with over 300K km on it and I tried shifting between his Journey's gear and its normal. I find it odd... My transmission fluid looks good, doesnt smell burnt checked it when it was cold and hot to make sure. It drives good engages gears at the right rpm. Not sure whats with this.

  5. Hey

I got a 09 Journey (2.4l 4cyl). The past few weeks I've been shifting between PRND and the shifter stick is sometimes rough to move. Sometimes its a little easier but overall its just rough to shift between gears. I've checked my transmission fluid and its good. Driving the car there is no problem, its just shifting between the gears. Done some googling but couldn't find anything. Anyone know anything about it? Will be checking it out with my mechanic soon but would want to see a general idea. I'm also hearing a buzzing noise when shifting to R and D which lasts for a second and goes away as well.

  6. This may help someone so I'm just posting this here for future reference.

There are many others Chrysler Vehicles that have this problem; Caliber, Avenger, Patriot, etc.

After getting this code and doing my research I decided to tackle the problem myself. I picked up some rust remover spray as opposed to wd-40. I took off the intake manifold runner control valve to see that the springloaded solenoid gets stuck when you twist it. The actual manifold flaps itself are fine as I can twist them open and closed (about 30 degrees I can twist them). I removed the runner control valve and started spraying it inside to get the solenoid to move. Took about 1.5 hours as I let soak, resprayed, vaccumed it out and kept twisting until it was free to move. I put everything back together and put the key into the ignition and left it at 'on'. Pulled out my bluetooth obd reader and cleared the code. I did this on Dec 12 and so far no light even after the system was in testing mode and completed. Hopefully this will help someone out.

  7. If it's the runner actuators, you should notice the power feels weak at certain RPMs. The runners open and close for the high and low rpm stages. Low end torque vs high end hp...

Have you noticed and difference in power?

Folks correct me if I'm wrong on the dual stage intake thing.

Nope, took it on the highway and local; felt normal like how it did before the engine light came on.

  8. Few days while driving, I notice the engine light come up. So I got home and pulled out my OBD2 reader and got the P2017 code.

P2017 Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit High Bank 1 so you have to check ODB-II Engine trouble code list

I looked into it and decided i'll look under the hood tomorrow. The next morning I opened up the hood and I actually had to put in a new air filter. So I took out the old one cleaned inside and put the new one. I start up the car, engine light still on. Drove around and in the evening I turned on the car again, the engine light is gone. So I pulled out the OBD2 and it still said it had the P2017 code. So I tried clearing it and it did say successful. However, the OBD2 still reads the P2017 error. Any ideas?

I'm hoping to check out the intake manifold actuator as it looks easy to access. I've read it can be either the actuator or the intake manifold itself

  9. Hey,

I bought a 2009 Dodge Journey SE from a private seller. However only got 1 key and would like to get another one for back up reasons.

I found a link on eBay.

    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Uncut-Replacement-Key-Fob-Keyless-Entry-Remote-Transmitter-For-Dodge-Chrysler-/191697899777?fits=Year%3A2009%7CMake%3ADodge%7CModel%3AJourney&hash=item2ca215d101:g:Bm4AAOSwDFNWE4LE&vxp=mtr

If I purchase this, all I have to do is bring it to the dealer and they'll program/cut the key for my car correct?

  10. I should have wrote I bought it from a private seller not dealer.

I fixed the battery issue. The brakes however were unseen as I just started hearing it after a month from the purchase from the private seller. I noticed after I was driving through a empty parking lot with my windows down, I heard like metal crunching. I did not feel anything when pressing the pedals, just the noise from outside.

I might keep it, beginning to like it. Thanks for the posts

  11. You probably should have had it rustproofed.

I would have the vehicle inspected and make your decision when you know what you are dealing with.

Having it rustproofed, even now, can be of benefit as it will pretty much prevent further corrosion damage, by the way.

If the vehicle is ready for the scrapyard you aren't going to make much selling or trading it.

I can still sell it higher for than what I got. However, I inspected it and the rust is what it should be, even minimum for that year and especially in our cold climates. The body is in great shape. I'm afraid it might be the brakes if I'm not mistaken?

  12. I recently bought a 2009 DJ SE (4cyl 2.4L)with 185K clicks on it from a private seller. One of my friends have it and he enjoys it. I l also like the style of it.

However, I had to jump start it a couple of times and I've diagnosed it was an old battery (they haven't replaced it in over 6 years...). I then found out the battery is in the left fender of the left wheel (how convenient..). I took it to the mechanic to put it up on a hoist and remove the wheel etc to take replace the battery. Now the metal piece that supposed to hold the battery snapped off and the terminal cables are rusted and very lose. That's no problem to fix but a headache.

    The reason I'd want to sell it is because of these problems I'm seeing on the internet about the 2009 Dodge Journey. For example;

    http://www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/Journey/2009/

This thing is full of complaints.

I'm also hearing sort of like metal crunching when braking before coming to a stop. So I might have to get that replaced. I hear that the body of the SUV and the weight have something to do with degrading the brakes?

Anyways - What do you guys think, owners of the 2009 Dodge Journey, say about the car? Should I still sell it and get back my money or is this not a nightmare car..
