Hot line for a camera

Recommended Posts

I am planing to power up the camera using the back up tail light.I will consider the headliner to power the monitor. I will give a try to see how easy is to access the wires.

What about using the power that goes the radio amplifier?

Tks

You will find switched power at the front power outlet below the radio and aircon controls - it isn't hard to get to. You'll also find switched power in the fuse block that is behind and below the glove box. I used that to operate the GPS in my last Journey, but no longer since I have the OEM navigation radio in the '14.

But wait. Don't you already have a backup camera? I thought R/Ts in Canada have them as standard equipment . . . . .

If there is no backup camera you have another option if you want to go that route, you can plug the receiver into the video input of your OEM radio and have the dealer enable the backup camera by programming the sales code - you could see the image on the dash screen.

bramfrank. My DJ RT 2012 has an 8.4 screen but does not have navigation or backup camera. I did know not that the OEM radio have a video input. I will look more into the option to see if I can see the image on the 8.4 screen. tks

The video input is located on pins on one of the multiconnectors on the rear of the radio. Which pins is easily determined by looking at the installation instructions for the OEM backup camera kit, available from dealers (I got mine from eBay) - the manual can be found here:

As it happens 'they' (being the Chinese aftermarket suppliers) sell a video transmitter and receiver with the connector pins that go into the connector (it certainly looks that way from the picture) pre-installed at a very reasonable price . . . . . but it really isn't complicated to run wiring from the rear of the vehicle to the front - in fact I went with the OEM kit altogether and let my dealer make the connection to the back of the radio and program the vehicle for the same money they were going to charge just for the programming.

In order to have the video image appear on screen you will need to have your dealer 'flash' the sales code for the backup camera into the vehicle - again that information can be found in the installation manual.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

The full kit, complete with the harness and the OEM camera, which is integrated into the lift gate handle could be bought here:

The OEM camera (without the cable harness) can be bought for US$92 here:
