It's strange that it did not start untill the film went on. Doing further research several cars start to whistle from the mirror after the film is places on. Aerodynamics of the film? Probably because it created an edge that was not previously there and that the wind drags across... Maybe wax the edge of the film where it meets the car and see if you can get rid of the hard edge?
