Squealing Brakes - 2013 RT

Recommended Posts

Looking for some guidance.

We purchased our 2013 Journey RT in May. Took it off the lot with 70km on it. It was great until we hit 6000km.

Since then we've had different random issues - issues with heating (NONE on a few occasions), water leaking through sunglass holster, DVD wouldn't play & wouldn't eject and squealing brakes. It's been very annoying to say the least but I try to look at things from a "that's what warranty is for" perspective.

The Journey has been in 4 times for the brakes now and these have been the results:

1. "Looks like there was a rock stuck, not there anymore. All resolved" - that's verbatim from the first work order. Nice.

2. They can't recreate the issue, could result from dust.

3. Faulty brake pads. They replaced them (rear). Said the issue was no more. My home is a 8 minute drive from the service centre, by the time I pulled into my parking lot, they were squealing again.

4. They cannot recreate the issue. Brake squealing is normal this time of year. (Yes, we're snow covered in the middle of winter now but the issue started late summer/early fall.) I was also told by the dealership General Manager today that he knows the issue is on startup.

Obviously there are issues with the service centre/dealership itself. The most recent work order (today) reads that the issue cannot be recreated, yet when I spoke with the GM he acknowledged that the issue is on startup. Which is it guys?

He told me that squealing brakes is completely normal and is not a defect because it's considered an "operating condition". Yet in the same conversation he said that they sell on average anywhere from 150-200 Journey's over the course of a year and that this very rarely is an issue. So is it normal? Or did we just get the "special" one?

We are taking the vehicle to a different service centre for another opinion. As I stated, I'm well aware that there are obvious inconsistencies coming from the dealership, but I would really appreciated any advice or any other helpful/useful information on this. It would appear to me, courtesy of Google, that the brakes have been somewhat of an issue over the course of time.

TIA!

Brakes are a non-issue, IIRC ever since they upgraded them in 2011/12. Earlier models with the terribly undersized brakes had tons of issues. Mine dont squeal at all. Going to another dealer for a second opinion is a good choice. I would also suggest making a service person ride with you so you can show them the issues.

I agree with jkeaton. I would most certainly get another opinion from another service department. I have a 2011 R/T, and haven't had any issues with the brakes so far. I hope your issue gets resolved soon, and I hope that you're not getting the run around because you are a female.
