So do 2011-2012 Journeys have Infinity or Alpine sound systems?

Recommended Posts

Why is it that when I look at window stickers for 2011 and 2012 Dodge Journeys many say that they include "6 Infinity® Premium Speakers with Subwoofer" but when you get inside the car the badging by the speakers says "Alpine"? Here are two window stickers of cars I've seen in person that say "Infinity" on the sticker and "Alpine" inside the car:

Subwoofer is in the trunk, driver's side behind the grill. Not much of one as it is only a 6" sub. Has about as much punch as the 6x9's in the door.

According to the link generaltso provided above, it has an 8" subwoofer:

Do you have a link where it says that the Journey comes with a 6" subwoofer?

I was told by the salesman the sub was 6". I haven't seen anything that does support that. The window sticker just says w/subwoofer. The brochure has nothing on it either. Not sure if Crutchfield or another stereo site would have specs on factory systems or not. The link generaltso provided says 8", but also says it has 6x9 shelf speakers. 6x9 are in the rear doors also.

My 2012 R/T has Alpine speakers, not Infinity. Fine with me, IMHO Alpine is a step up from Infinity.

I know the badges say Alpine, but does your window sticker say Infinity? I have no doubt that it's an Alpine system, but it's weird that the window stickers all seem to say that they're Infinity speakers.

I don't remember what my window sticker said. I do seem to remember seeing Infinity mentioned somewhere on the website (perhaps on the "build your Journey" configurator). Truthfully, I have been underwhelmed with Harman International's automotive car offerings for the last few years (Infinity is one of Harman's brands).

Just upgraded from an '09 to a '12. The Infinity system was infinitely better than the Alpine system. I'm incredibly frustrated at the terrible Alpine system :(

This may explain some of the confusion: I believe early production 2011 Journeys had Infinity then Chrysler went witn Alpine and some units may have left with a Infinity speakers but the maroney label was updated to Alpine:

Also, clink on the link and then pick the Journey pic and it will show u a picture of the system and a sound demo:

http://www.experiencealpine.com/

Funny thing is, when you look through their gallery and system layout pages, for the Journey, it says that it has the 9 speaker, 7.1 surround sound system, so it doesn't even look like Alpine know what they are giving Dodge, let alone Dodge knowing.

In any case, my sticker shows an Infinity setup, and alpine badging inside, but the sound is still nowhere close to the premium system that was in my Caliber :(

Edit: and to make it more interesting, on the Dodge.ca site, they list the premium system as being from Boston Accoustics. Go Fig....

Not sure what picture you looked at:

http://www.experiencealpine.com/

THEN CLICK ON THE DODGE LOGO, THEN CLICK ON THE PIC OF THE JOURNEY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN,

it shows you a pic, of 4 6x9 speakers, 2 3.5speakers, the amp and the woofer.

" Dodge including a 7.1 channel surround sound system available on the Durango and Charger, and a premium audio system available on the Charger and Journey"

THE 7.1 IS ONLY ON THE DURANGO AND CHARGER....

After you click on DODGE logo, then the JOURNEY logo and after the picture pulls up.

If you click on the left side where you see like a siloutte of the speakers, the Journey will pop up and shows you a cross section fo were everthing is.

as I said, I clicked on system layout and gallery, but for the full sequence, I went to http://www.experiencealpine.com/ , I CLICKED ON THE DODGE LOGO, THEN CLICKED ON THE PIC OF THE JOURNEY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN. I THEN SCROLLED TO THE RIGHT UNTIL I CAME TO SYSTEM LAYOUT, AND GOT THIS PICTURE PRESENTED TO ME:

I THEN CLOSED THAT SCREEN AND WENT AGAIN TO THE RIGHT UNTIL I FOUND GALLERY AND CLICKED ON IT AND FOUND THIS PICTURE:

Hopefully that helps you understand what I'm trying to point out, which is a presentation of a DODGE JOURNEY, with 9 speakers, and One Amp, unless you'd like to edumacate me some more. Now, I do understand that this is a probably a pretty big gaff on Alpine's side, but none the less, it presents even more confusion, particularly, as you say, THE 7.1 IS ONLY ON THE DURANGO AND CHARGER....

On a side, somewhat related note, the wife and I went to the drive in tonight to see The Avengers, and this system has no power; had seen a number of movies there with the Caliber and it was amazing for it. Also extremely annoying that the DJ would turn off, even when in Acc, every 30 minutes or so and that the interior lighting would only dim if the external lights were on... had to use my had to block out the gauges. Ah well, amazing movie none the less :D

cheers!

NO,,,that is a pic of the Charger or Durango you click back too.

CLICK ON THE DODGE LOGO.....CLICK ON THE PIC OF THE JOURNEY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. OF THE PAGE.

CLEARLY IN THE PIC IT PULLS UP IS THIS.

A PIC OF 4 6X9 2 3/5 A WOOFER AND AMP.

IF YOU LOOK AT THEN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER YOU WILL SEE SILOUTTE PIC OF THE JOURNEY.CLICK ON THAT AND IT BRINGS UP

A CROSS SECTION THAT SHOWS WERE THE 6 SPEAKERS ARE AND THE AMP AND WOOFER.

I see no confusion on this at all.....none....clearly Alpine and Dodge's press release says: a premium sound system,,,,,NOT 7.1 OR 9 SPEAKERS. IN THE JOURNEY.

THE SYSTEM DEMOSTRATION ON ALPINE CLEALRY SHOWS ONLY 6 SPEAKERS. AND IT SHOWS EXACTLY WERE THEY ARE LOCATED.

THE AMP IS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE WOOFER IS THE DRIVER REAR COMPARTMENT AND THE SPEAKERS ARE IN THE DOORS AND 3.5 ARE IN THE DASH.

DODGE AND ALPINE DID THE BEST THAT THEY COULD WITH THE LIMITATIONS OF THE CAR.

PART OF THE PROBLEM IS IN BOTH REAR/FRONT DOORS THERE IS A MOUNTING DEPTH PROBLEM OF 2.6" ONLY,WHICH LIMITS YOU GREATLY ON SPEAKER REPLACEMENTS. (TRY AND FIND SOME 6X9 WITH THAT MOUNTING DEPTH,NEARLY IMPOSSIABLE)

THE WOOF AND AMP ARE WHAT THEY ARE.

MAYBE IN THE REDESIGN THEY WILL TRY AND PUT A BETTER SYSTEM IN IT,BUT FOR NOW THIS IS WHAT THE FACTORY GIVES YOU AND UPGRADED FROM THE BASS SYSTEM, BETTER SPEAKERS AND WOOF AND AMP.

LETS REMEMBER THAT THE AVP,SE,SXT ALL ARE STANDARD WITH NOTHING MORE THEN 6 CHEAP SPEAKERS,WHICH I HAVE AND THIS SYSTEM IS CLEARLY AND UPGRADE FROM THAT, A BETTER PREMIUM SYSTEM
