Door lock actuator "clunks" but does not actually lock the door

I have a 2009 Jourtney R/T.  When I lock it with the remote the actuator clunks, the button goes down, but the door does not actually lock.  Although it appears to be locked, you can lift the drivers door handle and it will open and set off the alarm.  I haven't been into this door yet.  But I'm not exactly sure what I would be looking for.  I'm hoping somebody else has run into this issue or maybe already know how all of it is linked together in the door and might give me some place to start looking and possible how to fix it. I would think that if the button goes down that it would be all part of the locking action, but apparently there are two separate actions at work here.  Thanks in advance for any help in the right direction.

Try lubing up the door latch mechanism. Cycling lock with door open, lock and then lift handle to unlock.  There are springs and a few other pivot joints that can stick or not cycle in sequence. Solenoid moving isn’t the only thing occurring when door actually locks. Even cables like mentioned are part of assembly.

Here is a pic of a door latch assembly off my daughters Kia rondo. A little finicky to change.
