Driving an older journey (2010) and the sensors need replacement. Dodge shop asking 300$ for a set of 4 so I purchased a set of reconditioned units off ebay but they will not sync with the computer. The tech tried syncing them with them on the bench (not installed). My question is do they need to be installed before they will sync?

Not sure how you'd sync them on the bench.  I'd think they'd have to be near the sensor reader.  So maybe.  If your current sensors are sync'd with the car now, i'd say it could be causing confusion with the sensor.  So it's possible they need to be installed.  Question though, did you order the exact same ones and do you know if their battery is new since they're "reconditioned"?  They do have batteries and last about 5-7 years from new.
