  1. Oshawa, ON, Canada Home of GM Canada . . . Things have changed, it used to be, not too long ago really (my FIL's days), if you parked a non-GM car in the employee parking lot it might not look the same after your shift. I'm sure things were the same at the Ford plant, or even Chrysler in Windsor. The expression was "drive a car your neighbour built". Anyway, not too sure why I typed all that, it's all an amphorous mass now, a pastiche of makes, models and trims. Maybe that's one reason the Journey stands out! Lol

Looks terrific! We just got our 2012 last week. You're going to love the 13. No one want to ride in our 09 Impala an more! Love your colour!
  3. Hi Mike, What Frogbox said; plus, the 215 65 18 has an overall diameter of 29" vs. 28.74" of the standard 19" with the 225 55 19 tire. So you're oversized by 0.9%. The better informed will correct me, but my understanding is you want to be +-3%, so you're well within that range. When your speedo reads 60 mph you'll be travelling around 60.54, so no bigger there. One thing I don't know is about rim width. My understanding is the standard DJ 19" rim is 7" wide (correct?). I believe I've read here that the max rim width for the Journey is 8.5" (correct?). Don't know how wide your rims are and if this has an impact on usability. I imagine there's an interplay/calculation between rim width and rim offset (similar to tire calculations), but I'm new to this and don't know for sure, those more knowledgeable will be along any moment. Hope this helps, M.
  4. LOL, Oh my, but aren't you right! There's a great example of mental shortcuts, Daniel Kahneman would be chuckling too! Of course, Perfect Stop! Thank you for your input, much appreciated, Matthew Slaps forehead
  5. Greetings, Dealer did some work on the back brakes prior to purchase. Anybody know these pads? Any good? Thank you, Matthew
  6. Thank you all for your help and advice. Thank you too for the Kijiji links, much appreciated. Best regards, Matthew
  7. Greetings DJ owners, Here's my new ride; 2012 Journey Crew in the Storm Grey. My 99 Sable decided enough was enough . . . Hummed and Hawed, thought I’d get another Impala (bought an ’09 in summer 2010). Then two weeks ago had to rent a vehicle; gave me a Dodge Journey. Drove it for three days and loved it! Quite possibly the most comfortable car I’d driven, especially for my . . . uh . . . stature (6'2" and 270lbs). Did some research on the model and trim levels. Some problems reported with front brakes wearing and rear calipers sticking, some tranny performance issues under certain conditions, and the weird 19” rim size complaints. Other than that, people seemed to like it. This forum is a great resource for first time Dodge/Journey buyers. That having been said, a local dealer had a 2012 Crew with 32K on it (in service 8/11), 5-seater, V6, FWD, very clean, not a mark except for one tick on the bonnet. So I got it along with a 7/160 $0 ded. extended warranty. Tons of little storage places, storage under front seat, in second row under the passengers feet, under the cargo space at the back, etc.. NB When buying used always ask for the service records and build sheet, tons of information. Lots of options are standard in the crew as you all know. Some additional options the previous owner had ordered: - Bluetooth/voice activation for phones - Upgraded speakers w/ subwoofer - Engine oil cooler for towing - Cross bars on the roof rack - 4.3S (dealer gave me a Sirius 3-month trial) - Tonneau cover for rear cargo area - 10-way driver’s seat - Other stuff too So lots of fun to drive, I love the feel, little higher up, stiffer ride (compared to my Impala). It’s a crossover as you know, more of a car really with a couple of suv pieces thrown in to make the owner feel tough. Enough babble . . . No pictures, it didn't happen . . . so here are the visuals . . .
  8. Did you black out yourself or did you buy that way? Are they retail or OEM from another vehicle? Nice look!
  9. Thank you for your replies. Narrowed it down to dedicated steelies with the 225 65 17 and for rubber will use the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2. That way when it's time to replace the summers it gives flexibility to play around with the rims, because I'm not locked into the all weathers. Lots' of options out there!. Best regards, M.
  10. Where did you get your install done and did you get your build sheet?
  11. Yes, that's my understanding as well. On Hankook Optimo 4S: had a set on my Mercury Sable, I live in Toronto. Fantastic tire, never a problem, never got stuck, handled heavy snow well. Nice and smooth in the summer as well, great in rain. The only All Weather I've been able to find in 225/55/19 is the Yokohama W.Drive. M.
  12. Greetings, New Journey owner here, 2012 Crew, in service date Nov 2011, with 32,000 kilometres, came stock with 225/55/19. My understanding from reading these excellent forums is that these are oddly-sized tires. So I did a little chart to try and figure some things out. I'm exploring options. Here is how my thoughts are unfolding for snow tires: "All Weather" tires on the current 19 rims. I had some Hankook Optimo 4S all weather, snow flake rated, tires on my previous vehicle and loved them. Terrific in the snow and smooth all year round. So I explored All Weather for 19". Hankook Optimo 4S: No; Goodyear Fortera TripleTred: No; Nokian WR: No; Yokohama W.Drive: YES! Question 1: Does anyone have experience with the Yokohama W.Drive? Impressions/suitability for the 2012 DJ Crew? But . . . at CAD348 per tire + Balancing + Sensors, it's a big decision. Continuing the discussion . . . The other option is to go with the 17" rims (cheaper) and if I went with the 17" rims that were stock on the other trim journeys then my pure winter tire selection becomes more mechanical, a standard 225 / 65 / 17. Plus of course the balancing and such. Also storage, I don't keep my winter tires at my house. Pretty standard winter tire selection in this scenario, unless I'm missing something. Now, at 32,000K on the OEM tires I'm going to need new summers probably around 60K or so? Maybe a couple of years. So there is that expense. Question 2 (for summers): Does "Option 2" in my chart work assuming I stick with the stock 19" rims? i.e. can I use 235 / 55 /19 on my Journey? Or any other options that will work with the 19"? Looking forward to your thoughts. My thoughts . . . I'm leaning to the All Weather W.Drive tires, because with the total cost of tire purchase over the coming 24 months it might make the most sense. Still need to do a litlte number crunching to reach a conclusion. Certainly your thoughts on my two questions is important to this process. Ok, I think that's it. Thank you for your help, Matthew Update: Oct 26, 2013 Received a few PMs about my chart so here it is updated, speedo changes noted, some choices narrowed. Hope it's useful:
  13. Just found what I was looking for in this post.
  14. Terrific! Just what I was looking for. Thank you for the post.
  15. Oh sorry, just realized I likely posted in the wrong sub-forum, mods can you move to the correct forum?
  16. Greetings, First post, but more importantly first Dodge Journey! Well almost first, finalizing tomorrow. Where can I find a listing, if such exists, of all the TSBs that might apply to my VIN? I would like to ensure the dealer has applied all the updates. Thank you! Matt PS Love the Journey, rented one for 3 days and discovered its pleasures. I'm 6'2" and at the high end of the 200s . . . The Journey fits well. Looking forward to contributing to this excellent forum.
