  1. Good afternoon. Throughout the past couple years of having my dodge journey, I have come across many individuals who have struggled to find the right wiring harness that would allow them to tow a trailer if they so choose. Coming across multiple mixed reviews, it eventually led me to installing the CURT C13335 trailer hitch (used it for a bike rack and nothing more). With further research I noticed there was often times discussion between getting the OEM harness or the CURT C56154. As I conducted my research it seemed as if the there was a common demominator between the reviews and most voiced concerns about both options. The OEM wiring harness from first glance may seem to be the easiest install, due to existing wiring. Unfortunately the additional wiring that is required for purchase costs about $60+....... plus the required FLASH....... Individuals on this forum state it takes a couple hours to complete the FLASH at the dealership.... So labor will most likely be between $50-$100 or more depending on your relationship with the dealership, etc.... Now comes the CURT wiring harness at $59+. Through first hand experiences with family and by reading the forums/reviews, this harness has a tendancy to have a too short of wire running from the drivers rear to passengers rear, creating problems during setup (required alot of splicing, etc).... When trying to weigh my options I came across the TOWREADY 118536.. I was skeptical at first because I had never heard of it and did not know of anyone who had personally used it. Fortunately it was an absolute breeze to install. I had to conduct the install on the ground (which was not very fun but not terrible). That being said it took me approximately 2 1/2 hours (note I also already had a hitch installed...No taking off the rear bumper, removing the hitch or lowering the spare). No splicing of wires was required, all wires were more than long enough and no FLASH of the vehicle was required... I paid a total of $48 for the entire package (plus my time and labor of course lol). This was my first electrical project that I have ever completed and it truly was very easy. Just think through your options when purchasing a wiring harness. None of these three wiring harness' will lead you wrong I am sure, but from my experience, the TOWREADY was the cheapest, had better reviews than the CURT, was easier to install, outstanding quality and works perfectly!
  2. Bryon, where did you get your trailer in Georgia? Price range? Looking through most of the towing threads, it looks like individuals are getting average of mid 20's when towing with their Journeys.13 MPG doesnt sound good at all.
  3. You have it done in Atlanta? Can't find many nice shops in georgia (southeast) that I trust to do work. Then again I have very high expectations coming from Las Vegas where customization shops are endless and proven
  4. Ya it sounds good if you like a slightly deeper Honda sound. And you fail to mention your red mud flaps (cheap looking), red emblems (cheap looking), eBay stripes (as there are no Mopar ones and cheap looking) ,multiple stickers and windshield banner (cheap looking) and those are definitely cheap projector headlights. Like I said, if you don't want negative criticism don't post on a forum how awesome you think your car is. Harryt your exhaust does sound good however. Don't mean to blast Ole boy on your post. Does have a nice and subtle growl. Ole dude tried stealing your thunder and that's not cool
  5. You say boring but at least they don't look like a fixer upper on a budget. You buy the most expensive dj and then put cheap upgrades on it (minus exhaust yet it sounds like a honda). That's not nice IMHO. Like I said though, I wasn't trying to knock you just stating I am not a fan. I don't know why you tried to turn it around on me and talk trash on other people's "regular" vehicles. Journeys aren't meant to be sports cars, etc. It's a crossover for goodness sake so you can only think your upgrades are so cool. I mean the R/T had the same motor as my SXT and I did not have to pay for my R/T aesthetics and all the interior upgrades because of my good relations with the dealership. People who have actual sports cars, may just sit back and laugh at your jerry rigged vehicle. If you don't like peoples opinions then don't post on a forum how cool you "THINK" your car is and how ugly you think others are ;-)
  6. That sound terrible!!! It's as if a Honda and a Toyota had a baby. No difference between that and an import with a "fart can". Then again the red mud flaps, red accents and makeshift fender stripes arent aesthetically appealing either. I'm really not trying to be rude and know everyone's vehicle is customized to their liking but I really am not a fan of this crossroads. I do appreciate you sharing that video because if I ever was looking to put pipes on my journey, you have now steered me away
  7. Ya it was ridiculous! I took the car into the local dealership to get it fixed and after a four hour wait the switch was finally replaced. But hold on, there's more......... IT WAS THE WRONG SWITCH!!!!!! It has TWO switches instead of one. One of them was not even functional ad the other just turned interior lights on and off with no dim or gauge lights. The worst part is they didn't even tell me it was the wrong switch. I TOLD them it was wrong and they said "oh we thought it looked different". Ya considering the dude I was talking to had the old part in his hand, I hope he realized it was different. They said they ordered the part out of dodges catalog and that they must of reboxed it wrong. NOPE, they ordered the wrong part all together (the parts manager apologized but then said this is the second time an incorrect part was ordered and installed). They may need to replace a position soon somewhere in the dealership. I told them that I would not accept the wrong part and that they needed to reorder the correct part. They did. They ordered it right off the part# that was on the original part which was totally different than the new and incorrect part. I am just miffed that it took them 4 hours to figure out it was the incorrect part and weren't even going to tell me about it. Service definitely isn't that of back home in Vegas.
  8. Welcome! If you need a good ole Vegas native to help you out with you new journey go to "Cowboy" (Real name is rick) down at chapman. Good guy and has been in the dodge business a minute!
  9. The 4 cylinder is crazy underpowered! The mpg between the 4 and 6 is only 1'to 2 mpg. Not worth the trade off.i suggest you drive both. You know there are 2013 sxt also. I mean unless you are in a big hurry to spend your money im sure dodge can get you a '13 sxt (v6) in the copper color with much better additions for not much more on the sticker price. Just remember you get what you pay for. 4cylinders are designed for lighter cars/more compact SUVs. A journey is a mid sized SUV/crossover and the 3.6L is the better choice. Read in this forum about the difference and do your own research! You will ultimately be making your own decision whether it be the right one for you in the end or not
  10. It says we must post 30 times or something before we can pm. It's over 2 years since you said there were spammers. Pm's are one of the prime means off communication on forums. If you can reconsider this it'd be much appreciated!
  11. This will definitely add to the price tag. It looks good but usually people want performance with looks but this one does not offer any performance gains. People all have different likes and dislikes. If I was having this done to a sportscar would be different than to a journey. The reg r/t wheels, the silver front valance the newly improved grill are sporty enough for the SUV. I do dig those headlights though! I may get a set of them down the road (MAYBE). I would definitely draw the line at a grand caravan blacktop. Watch video below if you think a blacktop caravan is "Cool": www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql-N3F1FhW4
  12. I just brought my 2012 dodge journey into the dealership to fix my interior lights dimming switch. I noticed that the circuit didn't seem to be hooked up correctly. When I would roll it all the way up to turn on all interior lights (ie: reading LEDs etc) the lights would come on but if you we're to just touch the switch the slightest bit, the lights would turn off. This is not supposed to happen as it is supposed to lock onto the "on" position. Dodge verified that there was a problem with the switch. It is not a big deal really but if you notice yours is doing it, dodge will replace the whole switch as it is not the wiring but instead the switch itself has too much play.
  13. Ok ya you come from Alaska where you have long dark winters, but Elko doesn't have long dark winters (just cold ones) and I'm sure you don't make that trip to Alaska often. IMO you "RUINED" a nice new journey. It is known that journeys are not off road vehicles to begin with. Especially FWD ones like yours. Not saying the AWD ones are off roaders either. As the saying goes "different strokes for different folks." If you like it then more power to you I just know that in Nevada people try to make their vehicles TRENDY (ie: off road lights) and you spent more on an FAMILY SUV than you could of on an off road capable truck. Again more power to you!
