  1. I bought my dodge journey R/T CRD last August. I love it but in November the spring fell out of the rear driver side door and the latch popped out of place jamming the door open. After it was fixed, within 1 week it happened again and i was advised by my mechanic that it would continue to happen cos the hinge is poorly designed.

This is a real inconvenience, the first time it happened was at home luckily, although it was pouring with rain, soaking my interior. The second time was at school!! How embarrassing! The dodge dealership was unhelpful to say the least!!!

Has anyone had the same issue???

take back to a different dealer since it is still should be under warrenty . that idiot doesnt know how to fix it the right way.

  2. Hello,

I have a 2011 Journey Mainstreet with 8000 miles on it. I have a problem with excessive brake dust on only the rear wheels- both! The front pads are barely depositing any brake dust on the rims, but the rear are "Nasty"! I called the Service department here to set asn appointment- but was told that because of past brake issues the 2011 went to a different proportioning system in which the rear brakes are the primary brake wheels and the front secondary. Anybody have any knowledge of this, or experiencing excessive rear brake dust as compared to the front wheels? I have a feeling the lazy service deptartment was just blowing smoke up me @$.

    Thanks,

    Phillip

i have a 2011 mainstreet with about 10 k miles on it , i have noticed that the rear wheels do seem to collect more dust than the front but not enough for me to be worried about ,of course i dont do that much city driving. i did have the dealership at my last oil change they had to turn the front rotors due to a little vibration, wasnt to thrilled about that, as i said i thought they should have replaced the rotors but the service manger said they werent bad enought to be replaced.but i do have it on record and if i have any more problems they will be replacing them as rotors should last 50 to 100 k before having any problems.dont think they will last that long on my journey i have had dodge caravan for the last 15 yrs and never had any problems out of them and did my own brake jobs. will have to learn how to replace the rear disk as i have never changed any of theem before

  3. This is very tempting considering the easy installation!

I wonder how much is required to add a factory back-up camera...my guess is that the tailgate harness already has the wiring and connectors in place...wonder if the camera unit is plug and play with the 8.4?

i called coastal about install and parts to add the back up camera he said the camera comes with a 21 foot cable to connect to the lock pic connecter so you mount it over lic plate and have to route the cable thur the hatchback and under carpet or how ever you want to run it. that sounds like the only hard part. wish you could add a gps that would run thur the touch screen also.want to order one but not sure how hard it would be to run the cable. Has any one done it yet? as of 10-14-2011 it would be a couple of more weeks untill they would be shipping any of the units.dont know if they are having a problem making the units or what ?

  4. have a 2011 mainstreet and love it . keep meaning to ask the dealer about where the battery is located and replacement cost as my history with mopar batterys is they only last about 2-3 years. also i have the large display but without the back up camera i been seeing the lock pik and wondering if after it is installed would the back up camera come on after you put the car in reverse or do you have to activate it each time with the steering wheel buttons. one place my son checked for me wants $750. to install a system for me. any info would be helpfull about weather to try it myself. thanks

  5. if your cars are still under dealer warrenty.it is a covered problem that they will take care of , they had to both sides of my 2011 at different times and they always gave me a free car rental while the repaire was being done.

  6. My 2010 Journey has been in the shop for a month now with transmission problems. I can not get it fixed. The dealership says they can't get parts. I am not sure that I believe them. I caled Dodge and they are no help. They will not even return my calls. I don't know what to do. this is my first (and last) Dodge. Does anyone know what I should do?

if it is covered under the factory warr. ask them to provide a rental car as it is in for repaires and taking too long. every time my 2011 has been in the dealership for more than 2 nights for covered repaires they provide me with a rental car till it is fixed. i would be calling the phone number listed in the back of your warrenty book that is the main office over warrentys. and if couldnt get any help there i would take all my paperwork and go talk to a lawyer about what recorse you have

  7. We have a 2010 SXT and love it, though after about 2 weeks we noticed the shuttering on slowdown with the front brakes. I have done enough work to know that it is the rotors and/or pads, so no need to take it to dealer. We purchased it with a few higher highway miles and got a deal and got the extended platinum warranty. I have looked and researched greatly and need to change brakes soon. This is a link to the kit I am going to use. I have checked into the EBC brake kits and others as well and none of them got the reviews this kit has. I will post in a couple of months again to let everyone know how they installed and handle also.

    Journey brake kit

looks like a good price for what you rec. about $56. for each piece. will think of doing the same if and when i need to do mine . PLEASE tell us after doing them and later on how they are doing.

  8. thought i had read somewhere that the hood on the journeys were made out of aluminum. so i checked out my 2011 mainstreet with a magnet and yes both the hood and the hatchback must be made out of alumiun. i knew the hood was made of real thin metal as washing it you dont want to push hard on it or while leaning over washing the bottom of the car dont lean on it as you can feel it flex real easy. hope the new metal holds the paint on, and we dont have no problems with them.

  9. excellent. another happy owner. :)

well i do have to admit. just got the oil changed again with about 10340 miles and they had to turn the front roters a tad they said due to the pulsesation i was feeling in the steering wheel, told them at that mileage i thought they should have replaced them since most of the miles was on the interstate. but at least if i do have any more problems i have it on record at the dealership. also they did a reflash on the computer for the trans, and radio, and the air condtioner for the problem of losing the settings on the air. still pleased with my journey

  10. (Not sure if this is in the correct forum.)

    See the picture attached.

I was looking around the car the other day and noticed that there is no splash shield on the front driver side behind the tire. However there are bolt holes that suggest one should be there. You can see one by the brake hose and the other one is mostly covered by another shield. This opening exposes the side of the transmission to the elements, as you can clearly see. Now when I go to the passenger side, there actually is a cover held down by 2 bolts; the holes are in the same location as the driver side.

I went to the dealership thinking my wife ran over some debris and they said there is no cover on the 2011's. So I went to look myself at the Journeys on the lot and sure enough, neither the 4 or 6 cylinder models had covers, but all had the empty bolt holes.

Is this some sort of cost cutting measure? Did the '09-'10 models have covers there, and will one from those model years fit my 2011? It's a little bothersome to me, to see the side of the transmission exposed like this.

i wouldnt be worried about the missing shield as the trans and motor is not going to be protected by a cover made out of plastic . have had my d.j. 6months and hand wash and wax it often and have not ever noticed this. yes it probaly was a cost cutting reduction to save. but i wouldnt be worried about it.
  11. 2 questions has any one tried to remove the yellow warning stickers on the sun visers yet.? the viser feels like it is made of plastic and was wondering if it can be removed with some bumper sticker solvent? also wonder about the foot rest on the drivers side floor, could be removed or bent down to give a long leg person another inch so their leg could be straight with out being so cramped on long drive event

  12. just bought a 4 door set from WEATHERTECH , been using these guys for years with all my cars , they are the best . :)

better be carefull about the rear windows when you roll them down. i had the same set and they were in the windows for over 2 weeks and i rolled the right one down while we were stopped and then started driving and before we were even going no more than 25mph it flew right out of the window channlle as the little stickey tape holding them in didnt work very good. ended up takeing the rears off and put them in the shed. but i love the front ones.

  13. 2011 Journey 2500 miles has squealing brakes since day one. Had rotors resurfaced but still the frikin NOISE every time I stop.

Is is so loud people constantly look at me and it is quite embarassing. Dealers don't seem to be any help and except for the crappy brakes I love the vehicle.

So I was looking for some aftermarket brakes but all the places only have up to the 2010 model.

Has anybody found some nice drilled rotors and pads for the 2011 model ??

I'm desperate to fix this issue. Also, could I get them on the internet and then get some place like pepboys to install ?

    Thanks for any help.

    Bob

sorry to hear you are having a problem, but i would continue with the dealership until it is solved.i have a 2011 mainstreet with 8600 miles and have no problems with the brakes( hope that continues). only problem i have had was the metal that butts up to the bumper coming loose and they fixed the right side and now the left side is doing the same thing.it is going in next week to fix that and do another oil change. good luck on the brakes and let us know what happens or what you do

  14. well now i know what that knob does now,had to go out last nite to check it out.LOL . My 2004 dodge van had a green light shinning down towards the center cup holders and showed up real good at nite on the ash tray and cups even thou you couldnt see the act. light shinning down from the roof . wish my mainstreet had that also, because it was just right while driving at night.

  15. I have been looking for chrome also (2011) with no luck yet. Mainly, I was hoping for a pic to see what chrome deflector/visors would look like on the Journey. I'll probably end up with "in channel" dark smoke. If there's no chrome window deflectors I don't think the chrome bug deflectors will be around soon either.

i bought the weather tech window visers that slip in the channle have used them for years with no problems. never liked the ones that stick on the paint. one word of warning tho, they sell them in 4 pcs.(front and rear) the front ones worked real good but the rear ones have tape that hold them in and we rolled the window down after a couple of days and was only going about 30 mph and 1 flew out of the window. stopped and got it but then later took them both out as the tape doesnt hold them to good. also i did notice a little more road noise or wind noice after installing them,as you wouldnt have this problem with the stick on kind.but to me the ones that fit in the channle look alot better. they cost about $90.oo U. S. and u can pick them up at any auto custom shop

  16. The oil filter on the Pentastar V6 is basically on top of the engine.

You access it thru the engine covers left rear corner.

also before you go looking for your transmission dipstick, there is none, has to be checked at the dealership.Dont even try looking for your battery. LOL

  17. Use The Mopar Filter ,,I Heard If You Use Another Brand They Could Void Your Warranty,,

just called my local dealership and the mopar filters retail for $8.50 each and told him i wanted to get about 5 of them and told him i bought the car from them and he said he would discount the filters to $7.50 each which would be cheaper than buying them thur the internet as their price is 3 for 19.00 plus shipping.and buying them from the dealership i know they are genuine parts from mopar.( never know about buying stuff off of the internet if it is real or knock offs) just my 2 cents worth

  18. Hello. I own a Dodge Journey SXT 4 months ago, now, that Dodge and Chrysler won't be in Europe.

I've read a lot before registering, and learned a lot, too. From this side of Atlantic ocean, it's not easy finding accesories for our cars, but we manage as well as we can.

If someone has any question about Journey in Europe, just ask. I've got to say that mine is diesel engineered, and manual gear (6 speed).

glad to see you on the site, wish we could get the diesel option over here, what size is the engine and how is the performance of your journey, guess it gets great mileage..

  19. I removed the Journey badge from the rear and the dodge from the grill. I ordered a RT badge for the grill. I was going to remove the dodge lettering from the rear too, but my wife says she likes it. I still think the rear would look alot cleaner without it. What do you guys think? Anyone have pictures of a debadged rear?

i removed all the badgeing off the back of my 2011 mainstreet. LOL my wife didnt even notice untill i told her and then she asked me why, she was a little upset. told her it looked better and was eaiser to clean and wax without all that clutter. Was thinking about removeing the dodge from the front but it looks awfull tight for my big fat hands to get to the nuts on the backs

  20. I noticed this driving mine in the rain the first time. It can be very annoying to someone that drives with the window open just the slightest. You would think they would catch things like this in the wind tunnel testing or simulation. Hopefully the design team will correct it when/if the Journey gets a new body design. I plan on adding weathertech ventvisors soon but those will probably just redirect some but not all. The recirc setting for HVAC doesn't make the difference it should (my opinion). I'm not sure if having a cabin air filter makes that big a difference as this is the first vehicle i've owned with one. My have to remove it to check flow without it.

i added the weathertech ventvisors on my 2011 and really like them but one word of warning is when you buy them they come 4 to a set and the back window set dont stay in real good they are held in with some stickey tape on the edges and they will fly out of the window when you roll the window down. the wife still wanted me to keep them on the car so i had to put some rubber cement on the top edge that goes into the window channle.

  21. Does anyone know how to start a 2011 Journey with a dead FOB i.e. with the traditional key? I have heard that you pry the start button off and there is a traditional ignition key slot that can be used. Not sure about that. I tried it. My start button cover does not seem to come apart so easy; I stopped because I was afraid of breaking my button. My understanding is that the start signal actually comes from the key portion of the FOB and putting it in the key ignition will power the FOB signal so that the car will recognize it and allow a start. Am I right? Thanks.

since it is 2011 why not call the dealership and have them fix it .still under warrenty i assume ,so get it documented instead of tearing up the start button

  22. Great!!! Thanks for the info!!!

i removed all mine from the back of my car they are held on stickey glue tape they can be pried off but the best way is to go to a auto parts store and buy a can of bumper sticker remover ( about $5.) less chance of doing any damage to the paint.

  23. I took my tail light out to see what type of clip was used. The way the quarter panel wraps around there is little room for a good push plug. So they made up some type of plug that is made to grip it. Pretty chicken s#$%. Talked to a tech at the body shop, he said alot of owners have brought their journey in but there is no fix, short of putting a screw into it. My paint is worn off on the bumper where it rubs only 500 miles on it. The joys of new car ownership just got mine fixed yesterday at the dealership, they repainted and said they put in a clip to hold it, i forgot to ask if they did both sides as my problem was just the right side. my sales man came out side to talk to me and said they just got one off the truck and sold it and they were going to have to fix both sides on that one. oh well. made in mexico.

  24. have had my 2011 crew for about 3 months, took it on a trip from alabama to las vegas for a month and half. drove real good and was a dream to drive on the road. gas mileage wasnt as good going out about 21 mpg on the freeway driving 70 to 80 mph. around town was getting about 19 mpg. the trip was about 2000 miles each way.coming home i started getting up to 30 to 32 mpg per tank doing the math each full fill-up the best was when i was going thur new mexico and oaklahoma and arizona . by the time i got back home I had about 5400 miles on it with no problems that most of the folks are talking about on this site. i just had the oil changed at the dealership and the one problem that some have had that was the peace of metal by the rear tail light that was loose and pushes out just about 1/8 to 1/4 inch. the salesman that sold me mine came out to talk to me and said he had just sold another journey and when i told him about my problem he showed me one just off the truck that was the same as mine and they need to put a clip in and chrysler is working to get it fixed. no problems with the brakes or batteries or any of the other problems and i hope it stays that way.as most things the more fancy they make them or load them up with electronics the more problems that can happen, but i havent tried to load any songs into the radio and only used the dvd 1 time
