I was able to pull the grommet back and slide it down the boot far enough to expose the wires and make the repairs. Here's a photo with the grommet pulled back.

The rear hatch lock on my 2013 Dodge Journey Crew stopped working. After reviewing online articles I decided to check wiring. When I pulled the boot back from the wires running into the tailgate I discovered two broken wires and another almost broken. I put butt splices on the broken wires, and all is bette r now.
