  1. I believe I will try that and see what happens. I’m thinking it’s just where the trans fluid hasn’t circulated through all the way before I start driving. I usually let it warm up some before I start out as I never just start and drop in gear especially when it’s starting out from a cold start. Also, how do I find out if there is an update? Are you talking about a software update they do for the computer or something of that nature? I had never heard of something like that before.
  2. Mine only does it when starting to wind through the gears for the first time when starting out from a cold start and only does it when it shifts from first into second and then never does it again the whole time I drive. I usually let my engine and transmission warm up for a few minutes before I start driving. I also don’t have a lead foot taking off from a stop or while driving, so my RPMs don’t normally go above 1500-2000 when it winds through the gears. The transmission is strong and doesn’t hesitate as is very responsive when driving. I too feel like it’s the computer trying to decide what gear to go into, but it’s kind of unnerving when you feel it lol. It does my give me any trouble. A family member had a 2006 Pacifica and they said theirs did the same thing off and on, so I’m attributing it to it’s just the nature of the beast I guess lol. I have it serviced regularly, so I definitely keep up the maintenance on it.
  3. Nope, there is no check engine lights nothing at all. The shudder is one that is as if the car is trying to decide which gear to go into. It only does it once and then never again the whole rest of the time I drive. Just does it when it winds through from first into second gear for the first time after being started. I don’t have a lead foot taking off from a stop or while driving, so the RPMs don’t raise over probably 2300 when winding through the gears.
  4. Hello, I have a 2018 AWD Journey with almost 31,000 miles and this is the first Journey I have ever owned. I love the vehicle as it fits me exactly for what I was looking for. I am the second owner and have owned it for almost two years. I have recently started paying attention to how the transmission shifts through the gears. I have observed that the first time the transmission starts shifting through all the gears after taking off from a cold start (after having let the engine and tranny warm up for a few minutes before beginning to drive), I have noted a “shudder” as the transmission shifts from first into second gear. This only happens during the first run through of the gears after a cold start, and after that then I never feel or notice it again the whole rest of the time I drive. It shifts flawlessly after the first initial run through of the gears without another shudder the rest of the time I drive. I am still getting to know the feel of Dodge as far as what is normal operation/function for their vehicles and such. This is again the first Doge Journey I have ever owned. Can any of my fellow Journey owners tell me if this is a normal functioning of the AWD transmissions in the Journey? Has anyone else noticed this in theirs? In honesty, the car has probably always done this and I just never paid attention or noticed it before until now lol. Thanks in advance!

  6. My 2018 makes the exact same noise and under the same condition of braking as yours does. I took mine to a dealership and they said the tie rods, ball joints, etc looked fine, no broken boots on anything or anything else. Took it to another dealer and they replaced the driver seat frame, but it still does it because it’s outside the car. The noise on mine comes from the driver side front wheel. It does it when the brakes are applied at low speed while going over a hump or dip in the road, and also does it when bearing left around a curve while brakes applied at low speed. Think I’ll take it back to the dealer and have them recheck the front suspension, bushings etc, and if they say everything is fine, then I’m not going to worry about it. It drives solid on the road and over bumps and such, only hear the noise under the above notes conditions. It still has the dodge factory warranties on it until 10/2021 and also purchased an extended warranty through the dealer I bought it from, so it’s cover up til 2025 or 125,000 miles and has almost 25,500 on it now. It’s a great car other than that. For my own peace of mind though I’m going to have it checked again by my dealer and won’t worry about it much after that since this seems to be an on going issue with no real permanent fixes and from what I’m hearing is mostly a quirk and not a safety hazard, which the latter is what I’m mainly concerned about. I can live with the squeak, but safety is my main concern as I drive mine pretty much daily.
  7. It’s sounding like this is a very common problem with journeys no matter the year. This is my first journey and didn’t know this was a problem with them until a month ago when mine started making this noise. Also sounds like Dodge doesn’t have a cure for it. Mine rides solid on the road except for this annoying noise that apparently characteristic of the Journey. I love the Journey and always wanted one, but it’s kind of disappointing they have this issue. It’s too bad.
  8. My journey makes a clunk noise after the trans is warm when shifting from drive to reverse. Also jerks when shifting into drive from park after trans is warm. I think it’s just the way the linkage is. A family member of mine had an ‘06 Pacifica, which essentially is the same body style as the Journey, and hers made the clunk noise when shifting from drive to reverse when the trans was warm.
  9. I am reading on this forum that apparently this is a very common issue with the Journey and apparently no matter the year lol. This is my first journey. I love the car and always wanted one, but just kind of disappointing that such a nice solid car has this annoying issue, and sounds like Dodge does not have a for sure cure for it. Going to ask my dealer I have taken it to to have a tech ride with me and see what they think it might be. If they say it’s normal and all the suspension components look good, they I won’t worry about and just live with it like all the other Journey owners have lol!

  10. I have a 2018 Journey SE with 24,000 miles and mine started doing the EXACT SAME THING! Verbatim as your Journey does. I’m taking it to the dealer to have some other parts out on to see if it gets fixed, but if not I’m taking it back and going to have a tech ride along with me so I can duplicate it for them and see what they say. Mine has the noise on the front driver wheel. Honestly thought it was the strut, but the strut and other components look fine. First dealer I took it to said everything was tight and no rubber boots broken on any of the joints or anything. Sounds like rubber rubbing metal or a “squeegee” type sound. If the dealer tells me it’s normal for the Journey then I won’t worry about it. This is my first Journey and I love the car, but this noise stated in mine about a month ago. It’s more annoying than anything. Would be nice to have it fixed though.
  11. I have a 2018 Journey with 24,000 miles on it. I started noticing sort of the same thing with mine about a month ago. Mine almost sounds like a mix of a squeak and clunk. Almost like a rubber rubbing metal sound. I notice it at slower speeds (10-15 mph) and when going over humps or dips in the road that cause the car to raise up and back down on the suspension. I narrowed it down to I only hear it when my brakes are being applied while going over hump/dip. I did a test and found that when going over the hump/dip without the brake on I don’t hear it, but when the brake is applied at all I do hear it. Any ideas? Also, this is my first Dodge Journey I have owned. Thanks in advance.
