  1. For this 'bumper to bumper warranty" you must have been looking into aftermarket warranties. I got caught off guard on the warranty change from 09 to 10 until just before I signed the papers. I know this was not a dealer issue an complained to Chrysler. In my opinion, this was deceptive advertising. Note there is no reference to a warranty on the 2010 window sticker, the brochures they are using are 2009 which state "lifetime", etc. I may be interested in participating in a class action suit on this if one pops up. Even when I ran the info on the 'Dodge' website and printed the sheet, it showed 2010 with lifetime warranty (it has since been updated but I have PDF and hard copies). What are the resale implications (this will be the deciding factor on how to proceed on this matter)? Was the lifetime not transferrable? The 5/100 is and therefore is a better resale deal? I was looking at Hyundai Santa Fe's and they (I think) had same or better warranty.
  2. Please let us know what Pad manufacturer you used (part #, cost, and source) as well as what year and model vehicle you have (not sure if all Journey's use the same calipers).
  3. Great info - thank you for the extensive details on your 49 fill ups. RAV
  4. I ran Silver Stars (SS) in my 2000 Grand Caravan Sport AWD for many of the 9 years. I am a stickler about running all lights (head and fog) at all times - day and night. You are right about life - they last about a year or a year and a half with them running all the time. They do produce a nice light. I may change the journey.
  5. Can you guys clarify some Sirius things? Our new 2010 comes with the Sirius up and running. Wife's been enjoying it greatly. Should I "activate it"? If I do, does this start the 1 year clock? Can I run as is until it no longer works and then call to activate it? If I activate it, can I use Sirius online and listen at any computer? Thoughts, benefits to leaving as is or signing up?
  6. Default is on. Pushing the switch illuminates the icon to indicate '...your car may slip and slide...' I park on a slope on the side of the driveway. The other day there were wet leaves and grass. Discussed with the wife that this might be a situation where you want to disable the ESC (electronic stability control). You want pure power to the wheels and possibly some slipping as opposed to the ECS system taking over to adjust conditions as it thinks the car is losing control.
  7. My wife die not like the seat quality of the cloth seats. Not sure if the inner structure is the same on both.
  8. I found this roll of ULTRA-WIDE HEAVY-DUTY VINYL MOLDING - http://www.jcwhitney.com/ULTRA-WIDE_HEAVY-...0;0;2008789;0;0 For $68, looks like I can get enough to do the rear bumper and all of the door sills. I may try this.
  9. FYI -- My financing was pre-approved at AAA for 3.99% (5 years if I wanted it). Dealer said they would beat any offer. I asked for more than "... a .01 token offer..." Finance guy was very surprised when his finance institution - Rockland - came in at 3.89% for 5 years. YMMV
  10. I can't get past the cost of this item - $145! I like the idea of purchasing the spray on bed liner material and doing a small patch in the area in question. I might just wait unit I see how scratched this area becomes before I proceed with this upgrade.
  11. We have the 2010 RT, owned for about a month +, 1200+ miles, so far so good. I've added rubber floor mats, roof rack cross bars, and mud flaps all around. Checking options on getting a third key.

  13. From - Alisa Priddle / The Detroit News - "Chrysler offers buyouts to 23,000"; Last Updated: October 31. 2009 1:00AM http://www.detnews.com/article/20091031/AU...outs-to-23-000# "...The Jeep Liberty and Dodge Journey will be marketed globally but the slower-selling Dodge Nitro and Jeep Commander will be killed. ..." Keep on rolling Journey!
  14. Check you info on cars.com. I'm not sure of the numbers but you should be able to get this car at invoice (or better) and then have the $1500 rebate applied to lower the cost even further.
  15. Being a new owner - less than a month - I'm watching these articles as well. I read the Wall Street Journal article this morning. Also from this source: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dr.../10/620000499/1 TheJournal, citing an unnamed source says models about to axed also include Jeep Commander by the end next year, Chrysler PT Cruiser by 2012 and, eventually, Chrysler Sebring midsize sedan and Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot SUVs. Grand Caravan will go - a model that a couple of decades ago saved the company - but corporate cousin Chrysler Town and Country will stay as the company's only minivan. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne will bring in the Fiat 500 subcompact in 2011, built in Mexico. Fiat's Alfa Romeo will return to America - remember it from Dustin Hoffman and The Graduate? - with the MiTo subcompact, a midsize sedan, in early 2013 and the Alfa Milano midsize model. All will be made in North America. Alfa hasn't been in the U.S. market for a decade. There was no mention of closing Dodge or any specific mention of the Journey (though ending the caravan - a dodge staple for so many years - is probably a mistake). I noticed all manufacturers are pushing cross-overs so I am hopeful that this model has legs and will stay in the lineup. Either way, I keep my cars for 9 or 10 years so I'm not worried about (short term) resale value. The Dodge parts network will still be up and operational as well.
  16. We had some of the same concerns that others had had regarding the Journey's reliability. I also have a Ford (Sport Trac with Ranger previously) and we were looking to replace our 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport AWD (captains seats in the middle). We looked at all cars back in Dec 09 at the auto show. Were looking at Hyundai Santa Fe/Veracruz. Stopped due to economic issues. Picked up our search in September 2010. I drove the Murano and did not like it as it was quite a bit more expensive and did not ride that well - or have any rear cargo space. Almost by accident, we stumbled on a Journey packed in the parking lot at work. Did some research, test drove a few, and started to see that this was a nice possibility. Thought there are better rebates on the 2090, they are not generally avaliable any more (short supply in general on this vehicle) and the past problems of a new (early) model year get corrected as the model years continue. For us, the 2010 gave us some comfort that some of the problems were corrected. I also ran the VIN # in the recall system to see if there were any outstanding issues. BE AWARE, unlike the 2009, the powertrain does not have the lifetime warranty. We got the RT AWD with the sun roof. We did not like the cloth seats so the leather made the deal better. The interior space, 3 rows, and the details I wanted (3 zone heating, lots of LED lighting for passengers to read without disrupting the driver, AWD, ABS, stability and traction control, and all of the included benefits at this price level were deal closers for us. At this trim level, there are many things that make driving the car a nice experience. We did not want NAV or DVD (too expensive for the benefit when Garmin makes great hardware for under $200 and portable DVD players are under $100). Included integrated alarm and remote start, conversation mirror, seat heat, all the storage areas, 110 v AC power, plenty of 12v outlets all rows, adjustable 2nd row seat position, adequate for when it is needed third row seating, made the decision better. Dodge is not advertising this vehicle much. I was worried it would go away but saw a TV ad the other day and got more confidence it will stay around. We are all aware of the possible issues and the (minor negatives): gas mileage could be better, I'll probably replace the brake pads with aftermarket pads at 10K, vanity mirrors may be fragile and need to be opened carefully, interior is not perfect (plastic) but functional, etc. Since I had a previous Dodge for 9 years, the wife - primary driver - found a certain level of familiarity with this vehicle. Looks sharp, had good lighting, and the kids (both 12 years old) really like it. In 5 years, they will probably become the primary drivers. Check Youtube for the crash videos, they are really great to watch and the vehicle is a star in the testing. I'm watching it carefully and have a book to log any issues to go back to the dealer. So far at less than one month and under 500 miles, the wife could not have been happier. No vehicle is perfect unless you have unlimited funds. I'm a research hound and did a year's worth of research and even bought the $14 Consumer Reports printout on the car. I shopped over 10 dealers, tried private sale of my van, got one dealer to go right to the end and discussed trade in value, and closed at the least expensive dealer (who had the car on the lot). I got the car at invoice, less the Dodge rebate, and a very fair value for my trade (we bargained very had on this as the dealer had no idea that I was considering a trade or that I was committed to buy). Got pre approved financing from AAA at 3.99% but per the dealer's previous committment, they would meet or beat, they came in at 3.89% and we sealed the deal. Good luck, be an educated consumer. Hope this is helpful.
  17. Thank you for your insight. Note that in the 2009 manual, there is a large amount of information on the key process on page 17 including duplication and the fact that you can have up to 8 keys: "Replacement Keys NOTE: Only RKE transmitters that are programmed to the vehicle electronics can be used to start and operate the vehicle. Once a transmitter is programmed to a vehicle, it cannot be programmed to any other vehicle. At the time of purchase, the original owner is provided with a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). Keep the PIN in a secure location. This number is required for authorized dealer replacement of RKE transmitters. Duplication of RKE transmitters may be performed at an authorized dealer or by using the Customer Key Programming procedure This procedure consists of programming a blank transmitter to the vehicle electronics. A blank transmitter is one that has never been programmed. NOTE: When having the Sentry Key Immobilizer system serviced, bring all vehicle RKE transmitters with you to the authorized dealer. Customer Key Programming If you have two valid RKE transmitters with integrated keys, you can program new transmitters 1. Insert the first valid integrated key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the ON position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key. 2. Insert the second valid integrated key and turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound and the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the second key. 3. Insert a blank integrated key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound and the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will stop The new integrated key is programmed. The RKE transmitter will also be programmed during this procedure. Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys. If you do not have a programmed RKE transmitter with integrated key, contact your authorized dealer for details. NOTE: If a programmed key is lost, see your authorized dealer to have all remaining keys erased from the system’s memory. This will prevent the lost key from starting your vehicle. The remaining keys must then be reprogrammed. All vehicle keys must be taken to an authorized dealer at the time of service to be reprogrammed." I do not believe there are any changes in the 2010 vehicles in this area (no hardware changes) so the process should be the same. I need to better understand the "new key" vs "previously used key" issue better to know if I can update my used key or how I can clear the memory.
  18. I'm hoping I will be able to accomplish this without any dealer envolvement.
  19. I have a 2010 Journey. We got two RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) fobs with the little keys inside to unlock the driver's door only. Today I had a locksmith cut a backup key for $3 and it works without issue. I'm going to hide this outside the car. I have copies of the 2009 and 2010 owners manuals (electronic). The 2009 one discusses how to program additional fobs. The 2010 states "dealer only". I took a chance and ordered a used FOB, same FCC ID #, from Ebay. Manuals say a key can not be reprogrammed once they are used on a vehicle. Is this true? Can I somehow clear the internal programming on the "used" FOB and program it to my car using the 2 other (good) fobs? Are all of these "warnings" just a way to point customers to the dealer so they can rape us with excessive charges?
  20. Can the non remote start key fob be used on a car with remote start (to start the engine manually) or do the more advanced keys work on a different system (or frequency?)? How do we identify our Journey fob - any special info or manufacturer or source?
  21. I believe the fog lights shut off when you use the high beams. On my Ford Sport Trac, from a mod on the site mysporttrac.com, I cut one of the terminal tabs on a lighting relay and got the fog lights to run when the high beams are on. Anyone have any thoughts of doing this here? What relay? Is it possible?
  22. New owner – will pick up today ( RT AWD). Please assist with understand roof options. I have the side rails and am looking for options for the cross bars. I am looking for the stock cross bars – don’t usually carry anything more than light stuff or the car top carrier. I am aware that the SU bars have greater weight capacity but they look like they protrude very high above the rails (wind noise issues ????) and are not as sleek as the stock ones. I see the Mopar Sport Utility bars ($287) and these look heavier than I need – http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-us/dod...SubGroupId=3336 It also looks like the stock roof rack – side rails and cross bars – can be purchased for less ($215) – http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-us/dod...SubGroupId=3079 I’d be interested in people replying with options for me as well as recommending links for discount parts. I have seen the better pricing at this link - http://performancedodge.stores.yahoo.net/dojoac.html Comments on their service are also appreciated. Thanks (New member first post)
