Remote Start without honk, honk

Hi All,

I hope on putting this in the correct Forum.

I am the proud owner of an R/T FWD, no options other than Chrome Wheels (if this helps). With the colder weather coming, I've been using the remote start to warm up the interior (I know, I know... gas prices, yada, yada) prior to entering the vehicle. Rest assured this is only a 3-4 minute period... VERY little gas/noxious gases being emitted into our precious environment.

Reading the Manual, there IS a way to turn off the honk, honk if you have the upgraded stereo. From what I understand, you have to change the setting for the "honk horn while locking" option. BUT, if you don't have the upgraded stereo, how do you access these options to change this feature?

Thanks

On my RT you can change the settings with the steering wheel controls

Please explain. I tried every button I could think of and it didn't seem to work. Do you have the standard radio (6 cd)?

Most of the settings (not sure if this one is in that menu off the top of my head) are in the menu where you check the gas milage, compass, etc. If you scroll through there is something (I believe) called personal settings. You can change many things from within there. This is NOT on the radio...it is the little display that is to the left on the steering wheel on the dashboard.

Yes, so I access these settings... and then click enter by using the steering wheels controls?

Cool!

Thanks so much, I'll give it a try.

OK All,

Figured it out. The most important fact here is that this applies to a BASE R/T. No steering wheel EVIC switches, as these are part of an option package.

PAGE 23-24 of the owners manual has the answer. You must use the key fob to change this feature:

DIRECT REPRINT OF INFO FROM PAGE 23-24:

SOUND HORN WITH REMOTE KEY LOCK

This feature will cause the horn to chirp when the doors are locked with the transmitter. This feature can be turned on or turned off. To change the current setting, proceed as follows:

For vehicles equipped with EVIC, refer to "Sound Horn with Lock", under "Personal Settings (customer programmable features)", under "Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)" in Section 4.

For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC, perform the following steps:

1) Press the LOCK button on a programmed transmitter for at least four seconds, but no longer than 10 secondes. The, press the PANIC button while still holding the LOCK button.

2) Release both button at the same time.

3) Test the feature while outside of the vehicle by pressing the LOCK button on the transmitter with the ignition switch in the LOCK position and the key removed.

4) Repeat these steps if you want to return this feature to its previous setting

NOTE: Pressing the LOCK button on the transmitter whileyou are in the vehicle will activate the security Alarm. Opening a door with the Security Alarm activated will cause the alarm to sound. Press the UNLOCK button to deactivate the Security Alarm.

Note: Reminder, as much as the manual states that this is for "Sound Horn with Remote Key Lock", this is the SAME function that forces your remote start to chirp when starting your car remotely, waking up you wife, kids, dogs and neighbors and the reason for this topic to begin with!
