timh
Thanks for this forum and any help one can provide in advance. I have a dodge journey 2012 with 2.4L engine. I currently have a no start situation. Car cranks but won't start. Battery is 1 year old and has been checked and is at proper charge and is holding charge. I have permanent codes p2122 p0642 p0108 p0882 p0010 p00123 p0222 p0113 plus a few non permanent codes. From google it says: All of these permanent fault codes appearing at the same time are caused by one central failure: a short circuit or loss of power on the engine's 5-Volt Reference Circuit (indicated by code P0642). Instead of eight different broken parts, you likely have one damaged wire or one single shorted sensor that is dragging down the shared 5V power supply line, causing every sensor connected to that line to lose its mind I have checked the following sensors and this is what I get: map sensor 4.8v crankshaft position sensor intake 2v changed part and now get 4.8v crankshaft position sensor exhaust 4.8v Camshaft sensor changed also now get 4.8v throttle position sensor part of the throttle body 4.8v accelerator pedal position sensor app1 4.8v aap2 4.8v ac pressure transducer 4.8v Have I left any other sensors out on this circuit? I have checked the wiring mentioned to check for shorts by the camshaft sensor and all wiring is proper. Battery has good connections and connections from the battery to the vehicle are also good + and -. I then thought the Power Control Module was gone got another fuse/circuit board from the same year make and model from a local scrap yard, and still the same no start situation. Then I ordered the same japan parts that are hard soldered to the fuse/circuit board and changed them all out with new ones and still have the same no start situation. Any other ideas where I should go next.
John/Horace
How many miles/kms on the vehicle. Two main electrical issues 2.4 is the etb electronic throttle body and cps crank position sensor. Best option is oem for cps and Hitachi makes oem for etb. Plastic gears wear out, lightning symbol on dash some times. Heat/vibration kills cps, I change them by 100k miles even if they haven't failed. Pretty sure they run in the 5 volt control circuit. Look for green connections, doesn't take much to lose 5 volt power.

Robert Miller
The 4.8V readings across all those sensors look normal, so the shared 5V reference itself isn't collapsed at those points. Since you swapped the fuse board and still have the same faults, the issue may be intermittent or further down the harness rather than at the sensors you probed. Checking for chafed or corroded connectors along the full run, especially where the harness flexes, is worth the effort. On the crank sensor advice above, using an OEM part matters because aftermarket units often cause odd no-start behavior on these.
Nicholas Seward
Since the fuse board swap didn't change anything and the 4.8V reference holds at those sensors, I'd lean toward the intermittent harness side rather than the sensors themselves. On a 2012 2.4, checking the crank sensor connector and the section of harness near the flex points is worth doing before buying parts. If the CPS is original, an OEM replacement is cheap insurance given how these behave with aftermarket units. Also worth confirming whether the no-start is consistent or only when hot, since that changes which direction to chase.
