8.4 Radio broke, downgrade to 4.3?

Recommended Posts

So rather than spending money to replace my 8.4n, I was thinking about spending about the same amount to buy a 4.3 radio and metra kit http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-6520B so I can use a radio of my choosing. Would buying a 4.3 with the bezel off of ebay be all I need to get it going, or are there other parts I would need to change also. I know this might sound crazy but the cars already had the radio replaced before and I don't want to gamble on a used one or spend the money on a refurbished and have it break again.

My radio broke took  my car to  dealership they wanted a new box located under passenger seat 800 dollars plus.  So didn't fix it a year later my car battery died and replaced with new battery suddenly my car radio was working great.. We figure low battery juice was the problem.

It's not that expensive to just replace the head unit if that's all that's gone bad - if the screen is broken that's a bit more costly.  You should be able to get a head unit for your 8.4" Uconnect at a wreckers or on e-bay for around $100 (for non-Nav version). somethign like this listing - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Radio-Receiver-Radio-Opt-RE2-ID-68210553AE-Fits-14-300-494360/312695983217?hash=item48ce220c71:g:PgMAAOSwihldJ4pJ

Physically replacing the head unit takes less than 30 Min. and is plug and play.  Chrylser 300 and dodge charger head units for the 8.4 screen will also work in our Journey's.
