  1. Wow. That is awesome!!! Thanks so much!!!

Well I can't take credit for the link...I ran across it about a year ago on this or another Dodge forum I frequent, I'm just glad it still works because the .pdf is too large to e-mail.

  2. I don't want everyone to think that I've forgotten about them; but I'm working out of state and only get home one weekend a month. To be honest with you, looking for that link is usually the last thing on my mind, but I'll make an extra effort the next time I'm home.....sorry.

    Happy Motoring...

Well it finally happened. I was at home at the right time, and remembered to look for this link, and I was lucky enough to find it from a year ago! Here is the link to the .pdf for a 2009 Journey:

    Hope this helps and enjoy...

  3. @brwengel - I think there are many of us that would love that link if you could find and post it when you return home! :)

  4. Anyone know where to buy the bumper protectors in Canada?

The only place I knew that ever sold them was AutoXclusive out of Arizona; they were a bit pricey but mine has held up great for almost two years now. I visited their website today, but it seems to be not working, so I don't know if they are still in business or not; there was an 800 number to call (I didn't try it). So I don't know why you couldn't order from them (I know it's easier in Canada), but from what I remember from my experience with them they were great.

Just my two cents worth, and Happy Motoring...

  5. Hello all,

I need some help here. In the photo you can see the hinge where the second row single seat pivots to recline is missing the cover. The dealership we purchased it through said they would find the part for me, but have been less than reliable with that. Does anyone know the part number or what the part is called? We have a little one who is very curious and the last thing I want is her losing a finger in this thing! Thanks for any help.

About six months ago I ran across a link to a web-site where you could look up every part on your vehicle.....but for the life of me I can't seem to find where I saved the link. I'm on the road right now and will be home in about two weeks, if I can remember, I'll check when I get home. Hope that's not too late.

  6. It is a relief to know that replacement tires won't be an issue.

Yeah, but until you wear out those 19" Kuhmo's you're living on borrowed time and holding your breathe. Unless you're close enough to home for that wonderful doughnut of a spare tire to get you there, well then drive carefully and hope you don't have to wait for a replacement tire to be shipped to you!

    Happy Motoring...

  7. I just replaced mine with a set of 235/55/19 Michelin touring tires. Them seem to be ok. Had them 1 week so far. They don't have as nice of a fit (appearance) on the 19in rims as the original tires did, but the ride is good and they handle well. They cost a bit more, but the tire dealer said they will last a long time. I founda set of Kuhmos at one dealer, but opted not to get them. I figure if I do get a flat, then what? Atleast with the 235s I can get a new one right away. I had problems with my original tires anyway, so I'm probably better off with the other brand.

That tire size is the "official recommended replacement size" from Chrysler. I was recently working out of state when I had a flat that was unrepairable. Knowing the availability problems with this tire, I went to the local Dodge dealer, only to have them tell me that this tire is no longer avaiable and would have to buy two of the 235/55/19 sized tires. I called Chrysler, and to make a long story short; they have a stash of tires, but will only give them out one at a time for situations like mine. I didn't want to replace more than one because I only had 20,000 miles on this set. In a conversation with my rep at Chrysler, she provided me with the official recommended replacemnet size. So when this set is worn out, I'm definately switching to a more readily available size. It took four days to Fed Ex my replacement tire to my local Dodge dealer.

  8. I have two dogs that I transport in my 2010 Journey. When I fold down the back seats so they have more room, I have noticed that there is a gap between the seats and the rear cargo area. Combined with the cup holder gaps that makes for a rather easy space for the dogs to have a foot fall into the gap and injure themselves. So far I have just been shoving a towel in the holes but I would rather find a cover or something like that to place over it. Does anyone know if there is anything like a cover to cover the cargo area and rear seats when folded down? (When I say rear seats I mean the seats right behind the driver and passenger seat. I have a basic model of the Journey so no third row.)

Here's what I do for my dog; first off I have to tell you that I have the Dodge cargo mat for the rear area. To cover the gap between the seat I found some plastic corrigated material (you know like they make outdoor signs out of) it's thin but stiff enough to support weight. Now I usually only have the passenger side and the center armrest folded down, so I have a piece cut to fit that size and then when not in use, it slides under the cargo mat out of sight.

Hope this helps, and happy motoring.....

  9. To access the third row seating; the middle row of seats slide forward. This is accomplished by turning the handle located on the upper side of the rear seat. This allows the seat bottom to rise and then the entire seat will slide forward. The lower handle on the side will simply slide the entire seat forward.

    Hope this helps.

  10. My '09 SXT is about 16 months old and I am approaching 60,000 miles with no complaints so far.

With my LifeTime powertrain warranty and my LifeTime bumper to bumper warranty; I plan on pushing this Journey to the limits. We'll see if Fiat will honors the warranties that long and if the car makes it even longer!

Keep those good comments coming; and Happy Motoring...

  11. Not sure if this is your problem, but I remember reading about someone who had a problem with the switch that determines if the tranmission is in park. There are a lot of conditions that must be met to start one of these cars. As the above poster mentioned it could also be the key fob, so you could try your other fob and see if it makes a difference.

Happy Motoring, and let us know what you find the problem to be.

  12. Now that it's been a year, how do these things hold up? Was the extra tape necessary?

I've had mine installed for just over a year now and it looks great. I can say that it has saved my bumper from a scratch and gouge or two, so I think it was worth the money. Sometimes just after I wash it, it does appear a bit dull; and no I've never applied any Amour All or other type of protectant.

Hope this helps and Happy Motoring....

  13. 60k miles on my AWD SXT....had to put a battery in it today

I'm just curious if your battery was dry when you replaced it (maybe you didn't check). When I purchased my Journey it was already one year old (sat on the dealers lot that long) so I checked the battery and sure enough if was a bit low on water, maybe they come that way so you have to replace them sooner.

I'd be curious if a few others checked their battery, what they might find.

    Happy Motoring....

  14. I usually have no problem with brakes even on cars prone to brake problems. This new R/T has had TERRIBLE

brake dust. It is the worst car I've ever owned for that. I thought my 03 Jeep was bad, but this is much worse.

So much so that at 1500 miles I went in and bought some Ceramic pads to replace these things tonight.

About 15 min of my time and another 15 to properly bed them in to the rotors and all seems better already. I bought

"LIFETIME" warranty pads at the same store that I bought the full ceramics for my Jeep. Just came back from a

decent length ride that would have produced some dust and I didn't see any. So fingers crossed!

    Chris

Let me know how those LIFETIME pads perform, I have always been a bit leary of those, but I never tried any. I'd be interested in knowing how long they last between changes, and what they do to the rotors (are the pads a bit harder)?

    Thanks....

  15. Well I have 40,000 miles now and have just done my first brake job. The front ones defineitely needed it, but the back ones could have waited another 10-15K. I wanted to get rid of the brake dust, so I switched to ceramic and did all four wheels. I will say that the rear calipers seemed to be sticking because the inside pad was worn twice as much as the outer pad. Also my rotors seem to have a lot of life left in them and I should be able to turn them one time (for this brake change I bought a new set of Chrysler rotors) and then will turn the original set at my conveinience.

Just wanted to let everyone know that not all are having brake problems......Happy Motoring.

  16. 52 thousand miles. Plenty of front disc brake trouble with warped rotors. I also have the Lifter noise when its cold but still ok. I think I have a to replace the neutral safety switch now.

Tires went to 45K over all so far I would rate this vehicle fair to good. Best ad on part so far was a $2 dollar blind spot mirror I got at a truck stop! Vehicle is fairly comfortable on long road trips.

Still don't have much confidence in the transmission because it acts unusual under hard acceleration .Such as passing another vehicle. I would recommend having it checked by a good transmission mechanic every year. Theres better SUV's but there more money.

Thank goodness I have that LifeTime Powertrain Warranty !

  17. Just my two cents worth, and I'm not bragging, but I have 35,000 miles on my Journey and still have the original brakes and rotors. Now I'm proably close to needing some brakes and will have to turn my rotors. I'm not sure why others have a problem at low mileage and some last longer, my Journey was built in May '08 and I purchased it in Jun '09.

As a side note, the Journey has the exact same brake package as the Caravan and they are about the same weight (I'm not sure about the weight distribution), so I'm not sure why only the Journey would have brake problems.

  18. I am having problems with my brakes. I have just under 1200 miles on my new journey. I have had it in the shop twice and haven't even made a car payment yet!! I travel to work going down a lot of hills and my brakes and wheel shake. The second time it was in the shop the dealer called chrysler. They said that they are aware of the problem and right now the solution is to downshift when going down hills. ON A GAS MOTOR?? I should not have to down shift. I have owned many dodge vehicles...1500ram, 2500ram, Nitro, Jeep...none of which have I ever had to downshift. Currently, I have a complaint in with chrysler. I am so upset with this vehicle it makes me sick. I do not trust it with me in the car...let alone my one year old son. I do not know what to do.

If you read through the countless posts about brakes you will find some who have had brake problems at 10 or 20,000 miles. I can tell you that I and two of my friends have Journeys with over 30,000 and still have the original brakes. Now having said that, all three of us do a lot of highway driving and we are all close to needing new brakes on the front, but no complaints so far.

    Good luck..... and Happy Motoring.

  19. Question for those who have CoverKing seat covers installed... I ordered / received front and second row covers. They are of superior quality I might add and install/fit very well. My question is - there was a single piece about 12 in X 15 inches with three plastic pieces sewn into one edge. and two elastics with hooks attached on the opposite edge. I thought there was to be a cover for the console and I assume this is it. How does it install? I cannot figure it out. Or if this is not for the console...what is it for?

I have the same seat covers and ran into the same question. I called Cover King and since the Journey was a new product for them they were unsure. We decided that it was in fact for the center arm rest of the second row seating, however the plastic clips and straps looked like they were more trouble than they were worth and I decided to leave it off. The black on my factory seats and the black of the seat covers were close enough it doesn't bother me, but if you are a perfectionist then you'll want to add it.

By the way, I'm curious if you have the flip up passenger seat in the front row seating? When I received my seat covers they were actually the first ones they ever shipped and we had to make some modifications to the seat bottom for that particular seat. They told me they would incorporate those changes into future orders, so I was just curious how your seat bottom attached, if you had one?

  20. Just to add my two cents worth... I've had my Journey for 10 months now and she has 34,000 miles on her. Still has the original brakes and tires, but I would expect to have to replace the front brakes by 40,000 and the tires not far after that. The only warranty items were a visor cover, a u-Connect module, and a plastic cowl at the base of the windshield. Knock on wood she has been great so far, by the way mine was manufactured in Apr '09.

    Happy motoring....

  21. At 27,000 miles, the wear indicator on my right rear was screaming (literally) for a rear brake job. So I bought some ceramic pads from my friendly neighborhood parts store and went to work. Put the car up on jack stands and took the wheels off. First thing I noticed on the right side was that I couldn't easily rotate the wheel, the brake seemed to be dragging. Then once I got the caliper off, I found the reason for the premature wear. The lower caliper pin was completely frozen in its hole. I could turn it with a wrench, but could not pull it out. After a bit of head scratching, I reassembled the caliper, less the outer pad, used a large c-clamp to prevent the top pin from sliding out too far, and had a helper press the brakes to force the pin out. Took a bit of doing but finally got it out of there. The pin was dry - no lubricant - and covered in rust. I cleaned of the rust with a bit of fine sandpaper and gave it a good coating of brake lube and put everything back together, so it's working for now.

Tomorrow I'll be taking it in to the dealer, and I expect a new caliper pin, and caliper bracket at the least. They should also replace the caliper, as the old seals are probably heat damaged. I'll also be asking for reimbursement for the brake pads I had to buy prematurely as a result of Dodge's shoddy quality control. If I'd just taken it straight to the dealer instead of doing it myself, I'm sure they'd have simply cleaned it up and put it back together, while charging me ~$200-$300 for their "5-star service".

I've been generally happy with my Journey, but it has had more issues than any new car I've bought. Perhaps to be expected with a first-year model?

I'm just curious, how did you make out with your visit to the dealer? What did they actually do for you, if anything?

  22. Just to add my two cents worth; I can tell you that after my Journey has sat overnight, the first thing in the morning after I start it and put it into reverse, without giving it any gas it wil take about 20 seconds before it begins to move. If the car has not been driven for more than one day, it takes me stepping on the gas and reving up the engine and another 20 seconds before it will begin to move. After the car has moved for the first time of the day it's fine for the rest of the day, it's almost like the tranny fluid has drained down out of something in the transmission. I happened to be at the dealer recently and had the shop foreman do a ride along for another problem and I asked him about this issue. He told me he has never heard of this issue on the Journey, but he thinks that the tranny in our Journey is actually a Mercedes product. Remember this vehicle was designed when Mercedes was still involved with Chrysler.

  23. From owners manual:

ECO / ECO-on (Fuel Saver Indicator) — If Equipped

The ECO-on indicator will illuminate when you are

driving in a fuel efficient manner and can be used to

modify driving habits in order to increase fuel economy.

The ECO display will toggle between ECO and ECO-on

depending on driving habits and vehicle usage. Press the

Odometer / Trip Odometer / ECO (Fuel Saver Indicator)

button to change the display from odometer to either of

the two trip odometer settings or the “ECO” display.

When i turn the key to the on position (engine not on), i can switch to the ECO mode in the display..

However... when I turn the engine on, the option is no longer there

Anyone figure out how to turn this on ?

Another issue... the express window down feature (press and hold second click (unlock) on remote to open front windows).

Is this a standard feature on all models... I have the SE Canada Value Package and can't seem to get this to work.

    thanks

    I'm not sure if this is your problem regarding the window issue, but from the manual (pg 37 of my '09 US manual);

    Reset

It may be necessary at some point in time to reactivate the

Auto-up/Auto-down feature. To do so, perform the

    following steps:

    1. Pull the window switch up to close window completely

and continue to hold the switch up for an

additional two seconds after the window is closed.

    2. Push the window switch down firmly to the second

detent to open the window completely and continue to

hold the switch down for an additional two seconds after

    the window is fully open.

Hope this helps, let me know if this was your issue. Happy Motoring...
