okay, so I took the pics ... whoa ! they are BAD ! ............. and no worries bout the cleaner comment, I know what you meant ... lol ... I don't even use the automatic drill thingys to clean them .... just sit on my butt infront of the rim and get in and out of everything ......... .... I cant seem to past the IMG link to the forum though from photobucket ..... *facepalm *** OH just managed to upload them to the site in general, just cant into this topic
-
hey ... no, no harsh crazy chemicals ... my rule of thumb is, if it drips onto my fingers and burns or tingles, it does not go near the DJ .... so its typically just very mild auto soap and some elbow grease ........ I'll take a pic of the rim and show ya
-
Curious question ... I've brought it up to my stealership before about my "chrome" rims pitting, peeling and bubbling pretty badly on the lip - all 4 rims - He told me at 35,000Kms that its not covered under the warranty as its "wear and tear" ...... Well I noticed tonight while washing the DJ that holy smokes has it ever gotten bad !!! .... it goes just about all the way around each rim ..... when I rub it with my fingers I can feel the bubbling roughness ......... at 55,000kms this just doesn't seem right to me .... I can take pics tomorrow in the light, but am I just being picky or has anyone else noticed this as well? if so, did you have any success with getting it repaired?
-
frogbox, I wanted to go to a more rugged larger SUV tire but was warned if I went too much bigger than stock than I would have some serious rubbing issues when hard turning ... ?? the tire size youre going with is pretty much exactly what I wanted to go with ... do you have any particular tires in mind ?
-
ya I have those big dumb 19's with the fake chrome "rims" lol .... which is peeling off like crazy .... a pretty hard tire to find, the tire dealer in town here has to order them in.
-
oh really Rolly ???? ..... what size? and please tell me you possibly have pics lol ..... What Ive been really looking for is a tire to fill up the wheel well alittle more than the stocks do .... did ... that's awesome that they do live up to the reviews ive been reading than

oh absolutely care is being given to the tire situation right now ...... in a weird twist, Ive just been put off work for 6 weeks to RE-repair a hernia I had fixed 2 years ago .... gotta love being a only guy working as a nurse in a facility ... I do all the heavy lifting ... lol .... so thankfully, the Journey can stay parked in the driveway for the next little while with the longest trip being 2 blocks to timmies lol. New tires ASAP ...... so opinion than, The tires I plan on getting are 235/55R19s .... Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopias. - $193/each -- $898 all in with a $70 mail in rebate. Ive read nothing but fantastic reviews for these tires plus they have a higher load rating which we want for towing our camper. Any opinions? thoughts? suggestions of other tires I should consider?

ya the tires are at the end of their lifespan ... I know that, im just waiting on a few more paycheques until I can afford to replace the damn 19's . Interesting though, had to drive to a funeral today ... 350kms roundtrip on the 400 series highways - I got on the highway with the intention of, get to speed, if its to shakey or I don't feel comfortable I would take the next exit and just take the back roads to where I had to go. up to 100km/h, shakes ... not as bad the last 2 days ,... but shakes ... 120, shakes alil less ..... cruise set at 125km/h NO shake ! ..... so whatever that means .... ??? .... #headscratcher
-
ya forsure ..... unforunatly for how bloody expensive these tires are lol I don't know if its coincidence or not BUT ..... we went on a cruise for 9 days in February, right when Ontario got blasted by that "Polar Vortex" .... the DJ was in the driveway exposed the entire time and when we got back it had been sitting for a total of 11 days .... and the wheels were encased in ice .... literally had to use ice melt around them and ice pic them free ............ THAT is pretty much the very day the shake started Could that have had anything to do with it ??
-
So to continue the saga of the always evolving weird issues with my DJ ... I've developed a pretty signifigent shimmy/shake in the steering wheel at all speeds - would say its most like having ice build up in a rim during the winter, that type of shake. It also pulls to the right slightly at highway speeds. -- this also didn't develop over time, it was just suddenly one day about 2 mths ago it just started doing it - being February I assumed it was ice in the rim and thought nothing of it ..... Now, the crap 19" Kumhos are pretty damn near the wear bars, I know that and will be replacing them with Bridgestone Duelers mid May - however I don't feel that its the tires that are the culprit here. At times recently when I pull into our driveway (or any lot for that matter), if I pull in turning left - so drivers front hits first, I occasionally hear a CLUNK .... I've taken it to the dealer but as soon as they look at the tires they right away say its the tires and pay them $1300 please and thank you for new ones. I had the tires rotated lastweek during an oil change to see if that helps at all and it didn't make a difference at all. What could it possibly be? .... or am I just being dumb and it is infact the tires? ..... the only reason Im skeptic is because Ive driven old beater cars in my past with REALLY bad tires .. lol ... but never ever did I have a shake .. It's almost comical to let go of the steering wheel driving at lower speeds, or hold on very lightly and watch it shake shake shake shake .... have to make a 300kmn round trip Wednesday for a funeral so I don't want to risk a tire blow out if it is infact the stupid tires.

no reason for the carb build up ... and have been keeping up on maintenance ... funny part is, my fiancé made mention that he cant believe I could possibly have carb build up due to the way I drive ... I do seem have the condition of "lead in foot" .... the dealer even knew that I drive a lot hwy to and from work so he said he knows right now its not due to short drives and being too easy on it. something to follow I guess.

OKAY SO ! Had the Journey at the dealer for her monthly visit (I swear its a girl ... if you know what I mean) ..... took it in for a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds ... (turns out I need new tires .... fml) Anyways, while waiting for the shuttle, I happened to mention about this little issue I had that night with the rough driving, flashing check engine light etc .... they said they'd scan for codes while its in .... I received a call a few hours later, they scanned it and sure enough they found some codes .... apparently there was/is a misfire in cyl 2 and 5 ... they pulled the spark plugs and they were incredibly gunked up, black and as the service advisor said, "the worst hes ever seen in a vehicle with only 55,000kms" .... so they replaced the plugs, wires and did a heavyduty carb cleanout .... he even said that when they do that, it has to "soak" for a few hours than they take it out and run the hell out of it for a couple mins .... He said once they hammered the gas onto a 2 lane highway, the BLACK SMOKE just came pouring out the tail pipes, so much so that when they turned around to come back, they could still easily see the lingering cloud from all the carbon. So ya, didn't expect THAT at all .... but I can tell you its running SO SO much better and the gas mileage is suddenly a lot better !!! .... funny how you tend to just fall into place and not notice things as time goes on ... I cant believe how much I had just learned to live with.
-
to be honest it happened so quickly that I was never even thought to drop it into manual ..... hasn't happened since Sunday, and we've been intentionally driving it more than usual to see if it'll do it again. Could it be possible there was some "bad gas" ? ... I had filled up Friday evening, so I was running with a full tank.
-
Just went out to grab coffees, while pulling out from our side road onto a 5 lane main road, I suddenly had NO power to accelerate -- felt as if the DJ was trying to start from 4th gear -- the entire steering wheel and dash were shaking like crazy and the check engine light began flashing at me -- felt like it was going to stall right there ! I'm DAMN lucky the cars coming at me saw that something was going on and they slowed down otherwise I would've been t-boned. I wasn't hammering the gas or anything, there were cars coming but I had plenty of time to easily pull out across traffic. Light went out and everything went back to normal, until the next red light - all was well until I went to go .... again, violent shaking in the steering wheel, check engine light flashing and the DJ was just chugging very slowly ... again, as if I was trying to start in 4th gear. Decided to turn around, unfortunately having to make a left turn into a parking lot to turn around across lanes of traffic .... same thing. Once I had pulled into the lot, the Journey shook hard than stalled totally. I turned it back on, same thing AGAIN ... So here I am, back home, NO COFFEE .... and really puzzled. It drove totally fine coming home from work when it was parked this morning. Being Sunday evening, the dealers closed of course, so I'm hoping to drop it off in the morning w/o an apt Anyone else EVER have this? any thoughts? ... so weird ! *** 2012 DJ R/T with 56,000kms ***

Towing newb, what do I need and how much?
sexyRTboi replied to onecrazyfoo4u's topic in Hauling & Towing
hey ... welcome ! despite what a lot will say, I can tell you first hand, towing will be fine (as long as you're not a moron) ... lol ... we have a 10ft utility trailer we pull around during the year for various home projects but we also have a 2011 Rockwood camper, approx. 3500lbs and our 2012 R/T pulled it just fine from Southern Ontario to Cape Cod and back. No brake controller, we will be installing one this year if we still have the DJ ... but other than wearing out the crummy OEM rear tires, the DJ pulled the camper like a dream, even up and down the mountains through NY state and Vermont .... infact we somehow managed to get even better MPG than I get driving back and forth to work (I have a bit of a lead foot) The R/T did come with the towing package and we put a class III hitch by curt on her ... love the look of the black tubing and it looks great too ! --- trying to add pictures from photobucket but its not allowing me too ..... when I can I'll add them here --- -
im trying to do the same ............. so far ive narrowed my decision down to Bridgestone Duellers as they have very good reviews ... not sure how they look though ... i dont like the min tire height that the OEM's have ... they dont fill the wheel well enough and look funny in my opinion.

C'ya later Journey! Hello Cherokee! (soon anyways)
sexyRTboi replied to zmttoxics's topic in Owner Impressions
funny i read this post today .... just came home from spending 3 hours at the dealership AGAIN .... had the entire radio unit replaced today as it was causing major elec bugs happen within the dash ... tire rotation again trying to solve this AWD failure that keeps happening and the new foglight housing was replaced as the old one leaked and was full of water .... While waiting for the DJ I started looking at the Cherokee in the showroom .... initally i hated the looks of it, but looking at it today, it grew on me ..... biggest tipping point? it has a 3.2 rather than the 3.6 AND it will tow 1500lbs MORE than the DJ !! ..... 4500lbs, comes with a class III and a 7pin/4pin wiring ready to go ....... --- i grabbed a book just to look some more when i got home, when i left the dealership i realized that NOW my cigarette lighter ports are not working -- front or back -- therefore cell phone charger doesnt work ..... one thing after another after another after another ..... starting to roll around the Cherokee in my mind -
Well boo ..... now we have to play out our cards here. The OEM tires from KIA were incredible ! .... my DJ NEEDS new tires with only 52,000kms highway driving on them ..... we just took the OEMs off the Optima that now has 112,000kms and they're ready to be replaced ..... so our plan was to put new tires on in the spring when we switch from snows ..... looks like we might have to put brand new tires on NOW before we leave ...... ...... that's an expense we weren't planning on ...... Part of me just says let's take the chance as from what I've checked out we'll be in "cold weather" until Atlanta but than the rest of the 1300kms to Miami is in the high teens (C') ....... but I'll be so PO'd if we wear them out significantly ..... plus I would be kicking myself not listening to you guys ..... lol ....... hmmmmm .... we have 22 days to make a decision .... Thanks for everyone's input .... (anyone from Southern Georgia area that can chime in on the weather?)
-
so here's a question for the masses. We're leaving snowy cold S.W Ontario on Feb 13th and driving to Miami Florida to catch an 8 day cruise to the tropics. We won't be taking the DJ as we have a Hybrid for long road trips like that and can literally make it to Florida on a tank and a half of gas (2400kms). The question is though, we have brand new snow tires on the Optima Hybrid, and while the temps and weather all the way to Atlanta should be fine for running on snow tires, once you get to Southern Georgia and into Florida I'm seeing temps even this week of 17'C- 27'C !! ..... yay but yikes! ..... Are we going to just wear the hell out of the brand new snows driving in that sort of weather ? (1065kms from Atlanta to Miami than back again)

water in the fog light housing (2012)
sexyRTboi replied to sexyRTboi's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
** UPDATE ** What a difference a dealership makes ! - I've finally started taking the DJ to our dealer in town rather than 40mins away from the dealer I purchased it from and WOW !! .... So they had the DJ from 7:30am - 3pm ... picked it up and they believe they have solved the issue with the AWD ... the radio unit is the bug in the soup .... apparently Dodge made a decision to have EVERYTHING run off the radio rather than also having a "BCM" ??? ..... so thats why the flickering and the flashing, the radio not working, heated seats not working etc etc. Water in the fog light housing, no questions asked, they said rather than pull it out and attempt to reseal it, they've just gone ahead and ordered an entire new housing and not mess around. and the best things that a customer can hear "it's all covered under warranty and if a vehicle is needed overnight, one will be DELIVERED to my house" !!!! ...... ---- they mustve been puttering around within the dash as since picking it up my power ports (the old cigarette lighter) arent working, front of back ... the regular plug is working in the back, but my cell phone charger does not work ---- hopefully thats just a quick fix when they have it back in. ****** OH FUN FACT! ******* ... Ive also had an audible "ding" as if a warning light has come on, but there is never a light .... happens a few times a day .... turns out, thats the DJ's way of saying I have a light out - in this case it was the water logged fog light ...... "the more you knooowwwwwww"
