  1. Dodge certainly has some odd ways of doing things. My 2012 Hero AWD has the option in the touch screen menu to enable - I enabled them and they work fine. Strange that other 2012 AWDs have them disabled. And dealers vary WIDELY in their competency with the computers. My dealer enabled the DRLs on my Challenger R/T in a couple minutes - but I know it's been a nightmare at some dealers for Challenger owners to get the DRLs enabled.
  2. Redline for the Pentastar is 6400 rpm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Pentastar_engine The engine is electronically protected to prevent over-revving - you hit the redline and the engine rpms hold at the limit. In general, these sorts of engines make more power higher in their RPM range so shifting higher in the rpm range is desirable. Haven't played much yet, but the Pentastar may deliver best acceleration by shifting just shy of the 6400 rpm redline (6300-6350 rpm) As for the app, it's called GPS Speed Free. Look around though, there may be better apps with more functions in the Marketplace. Can't take screen shots, for example, with GPS Speed Free.
  3. I have a GPS speedometer app for my DroidX, and the app has got a 0-60 mph timer built into it. So I took my 2012 Hero AWD 3.6 onto a backroad, and ran a 0-60 mph timing in Autostick mode I only did one run - 7.4 seconds. I think that's really impressive for a 4000 lb+ vehicle with a full tank of gas, and contents in the trunk area, and one that will get 22 mpg on average. I shifted into 2nd at about 6000 rpm - maybe I could shave a couple tenths off that time by shifting closer to redline, and also 'loading' the transmission by reving up to 2000 rpm before releasing brake? At any rate, fun stuff.
  4. Sorry, joining thru Facebook it doesn't appear I have a way to add my Journey's details to my details. I tried to edit my profile and couldn't find a way to do it. It's a 2012 SXT AWD with 3.6.
  5. Got the Class IV Reese hitch and wiring installed Tuesday. Hooked up the 5 x 10 landscape trailer and hauled my snowmobile to the dealer yesterday to drop off for routine service - about 120 miles round trip. The Journey performed fine - doesn't seem to drop very much in the back when the weight of the tongue is on it - I even stood on the tongue and it seemed to barely move downwards. Suspension seems stouter than my former Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Never noticed the TSC kicking in - but seemed stable - on expressway at 70 mph didn't even feel the trailer behind me. That trailer tows heavy too, due to the vertical 4' gate which adds a lot of wind resistance. So far so good - I am pleased.
  6. woohoo! That's what I've got on my build sheet too. I got my Reese hitch and flat-four wiring installed Tuesday, so I should be good to go for summer. May have the dealer add a transmission cooler too, just to be safe!
  7. Maybe the 2500 is just a misprint? OR, someone in engineering felt the 3500 lb limit put too much stress on the drivetrain, and asked the marketing dept to down-rate the towing specs?
  8. Congrats on the purchase. They are very nice vehicles - I've had mine just a bit over two weeks, and I'm delighted with it.
  9. 2 weeks and no issues with my Sirius (knock on wood). Keep us posted. Sounds like something electronic got damaged when they installed the remote start.
  10. Thanks for the build sheet, Chris. It turns out I have both the trailer sway control and the engine oil cooler installed in my new Journey Hero, so I'm good to go once I get the hitch and light connector. I also didn't know that model was called a HERO either. Kind of cool!
  11. I don't know. My R/T was like that too - all the American Challengers ship from Brampton with the DRLs turned off, whereas they're left on for the Canadian-destined cars. My dealer had to enable the DRLs with StarScan. Fortunately, my dealer knew how to easily do that. Not every dealer does, sadly. I'm guessing mine must have been built with DRLs enabled, since I never asked the dealer to enable the DRLs on my Journey, and she was only on the dealer's lot less than 24 hours - drove in from an area dealer to my dealer, prepped, and delivered the next day. Really like the extra visibility the DRLs give me during the day - every little bit helps in traffic. Not to mention they look cool too.
  12. My new 2012 SXT has the option to enable/disable the DRLs right in the on-screen menu. I've got the smaller screen (4.3) too. The vehicle arrived with the DRLs turned off - I turned them on in the menu and they work fine.
  13. The AWD system on my 2012 Journey seems flawless. Had one good blast of snow last Thursday and got to drive a couple unplowed back roads. I've had two previous 4wd vehicles, a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, and a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 - this is by far the superior vehicle for acceleration from a standing stop in the snow even with the factory tires. It appears to be true 4wd, no open differential spinning like with conventional 4wd. You give it throttle, it just goes. I experimented with driving with the tires on one side in the snow, the others on pavement and giving it the gas - no slip. You really have to push hard on the throttle when in snow to get the traction control to activate.
  14. Hello, all. I'm new to your forum. I bought a new 2012 Dodge Journey SXT AWD ten days ago - my second new Dodge - I also own a 2010 Challenger R/T. This is a terrific vehicle, and I'm very happy with it. My new Journey did not come, unfortunately, with the factory towing prep. But I have a 5 x 10 landscaping trailer and a 17' aluminum outboard boat as trailers to tow, so getting my hitch and wiring installed by a trailer-sales store this coming Tuesday. A few questions -and I did browse and search the towing forum first before asking them - The trailer store's catalog's only had the 2011 Journey and she asked me if I was aware of any changes from 2011 to 2012. I said I don't know - wasn't aware of any. Is this correct? Do you think the trailer store will have any issues hooking up wiring? I've read here about dealers having issues with the wiring - but I think those are a result of trying to use the plug-in harness which must be enabled in the vehicle computer. I'm assuming they'll use a modulite type control with a dedicated power source to splice into the wiring, so I'm hopeful it will bypass that difficulty. Do the SXTs come with the trailer sway control as part of the electronic stability control? Didn't show a trailer sway control as part of my features on the window sticker. Or did I have to get a 'tow prep package' to get that? What will I want to have my dealer add to the Journey? Oil cooler? Transmission cooler? or both? Thanks in advance for your help.
