  1. Just a note for anyone thinking about trying this mod.... DON'T. It's not possible. The REU head unit will NOT fit in the dash opening of a non-nav car. None of the required wiring is there to connect the remote display, and I suspect the REU radio requires the factory amp and associated wiring harnesses to operate properly. Basically, don't waste your time, money or effort. I've wasted enough for everyone in trying to do this. Why on earth they would build a vehicle that is impossible to upgrade to nav is beyond me.
  2. I've checked into doing this mod. I can get a set of the H&R Sport Springs for the 2wd SXT for $255 a set. The dealer will install them for me for $750 plus $100 for a 4-wheel alignment. At just over $1100, it's not exactly a cheap mod. My question, however, is would it make enough of a difference in the ride and handling to make it worth doing? Right now my Journey rides great on smooth pavement, but on rough or uneven surfaces it bounces and sways all over the place... to the point that I even feel a little carsick at times. I have never had that happen to me in any other vehicle I've ever owned (and believe me, there have been plenty!) Anyone have any input on this? I could probably find somewhere cheaper to have the springs installed, but I don't want to take a chance that I might void the warranty. The dealer assures me that if they install them, the warranty will remain intact.
  3. Got into my Journey today and leaned back a bit in the seat, and heard something that sounded like plastic breaking. Now my lumbar adjustment doesn't work. :-( Has anyone else had this issue? Guess another trip back to the dealer is in order.
  4. Umm, has anyone checked Amazon.com for new fobiks? Folks are getting all bent out of shape over a $55 item: http://www.amazon.com/2010-Dodge-Journey-Remote-Combo/dp/B003RVITMA
  5. Are 245/50/19 too wide for the Journey? They seem to be closer to the OEM tire as far as overall diameter (and consequently, speedometer reading). I'm just concerned about them rubbing on the wheel wells or frame members when turning.
  6. The Journey was not designed or ever marketed as a minivan. It was designed to compete with the Ford Edge (among others). I don't think anyone would call the Edge a "minivan". Just because the Journey has some of the cool features that Chrysler has become well-known for in the Caravan (such as the under-floor storage bins) as well as the inclusion of many child-friendly touches, people automatically assume that it is a "minivan without the sliding doors". I politely disagree. :-)
  7. I have tried two different types of the 194/168 LED bulbs in my front dome/map lights. They work fine as dome lights, but the map light function does not work. I've tried reversing them and even bought ones that were listed as "polarity-free", but still no luck. Do these that you bought work when you turn on the map lights?
  8. Thanks for posting this, OhareFred... I've been looking into doing this on my 2010 SXT, but was confused by all the different kits and price ranges out there. This definitely sounds like the one to go with. What color temperature did you get? Maybe post some pics?
  9. I'm beginning to think you're right Todd... I'm not sure if it's worth it. It appears that they did not include the power/canbus connector for the remote screen in the vehicle's wiring harness, so to be able to add that I would have to tap into the radio harness. Not sure I want to start hacking up the factory wiring. Maybe I'll just keep my RBZ MyGig head unit and stick with my Garmin... maybe figure out a way to mount that where the REU remote display would be in the dash and call it a day.
  10. Hey Jeffro, check this out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Dodge-Journey-AM-FM-6-Disc-CD-DVD-SIRIUS-SAT-Radio-/190638191715?hash=item2c62ebf463&item=190638191715&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
  11. Kristina, I agree with you about the Concorde and the other LH cars. They were some of the best cars Chrysler ever built (except for that crappy 2.7 liter V6). I have a '96 LHS with 115k on the 3.5L V6, and love it. I'll never sell that one if I can help it. The warped rotor thing seems to be the most prevalent problem with the Journey. Manufacturers use the lowest bidder when sourcing parts, plus they try to make everything as lightweight as possible to help improve fuel economy. Maybe a high quality aftermarket rotor is the way to go. My independent mechanic has a display in his shop that shows a cross-section of a lightweight rotor and another one of the replacement rotors that they sell. The difference in thickness is substantial. Once my rotors warp again (and from the sound of it, that will happen eventually), I will think about putting those on.
  12. I think Chrysler either uses diamond-encrusted brake pads, or the metal they make the rotors out of is about the consistency of Play-Doh.
  13. At 10k miles, I had to take my 2010 Journey to the dealer for front brake vibration and a scored rear rotor. They replaced the front pads & rotors and turned the rear one, all under warranty. So far so good with 12,500 miles and counting.
  14. eBay is probably your best option for finding one at an affordable price. You just have to keep an eye open for one. Anything with nav in it is going to be expensive though. I saw a used REU unit on eBay recently for $700. Not cheap, but WAY less than the dealer is gonna charge. They can be tough to find since the Journey is the ONLY model that uses that particular setup. Failing that, you may be able to do a search online for someplace that repairs them. I found this one (although I have never used them myself, so I can't say if they are any good or not): http://www.oemautopartsco.com/index.php?main_page=repair_services Hope that helps.
  15. I found online wiring diagrams in case anyone is interested: https://techauthorityonlinedemo.extra.chrysler.com/service/repair/wiring/view/classic.htm
  16. Finally found the part number for the remote display wiring harness: 5064490AD Also the correct GPS antenna is part number 5064187AA I found these by doing a drill-down search on www.parts.com. Maybe this will help someone else looking to do this upgrade.
  17. Mine is almost dead-on with the speed on my Garmin GPS
  18. The Journey uses a HIGH speed bus, so a low speed radio will NOT work. You can check compatibility with all radio models here: http://www.wkjeeps.com/MyGIG_parts.htm#PARTS I just installed an RBZ MyGIG in mine - pretty much plug & play, fits in the dash perfectly with no modification, and harnesses plug right in. But... be sure to disconnect your negative battery cable first if you have the anti-theft alarm! I found out that the second you disconnect the wiring harnesses from the back of the existing radio, it will set off the car alarm. Pressing the disarm button on the fob won't turn it off either. I had to find and pull the fuses (there are two) for the horn until I got the new radio connected. Next time I'll know better! I had the dealer-installed uConnect Bluetooth module on my old REQ radio, and it plugged into the MyGIG and worked flawlessly. It even retained my phone pairing and address book... of course it might have done that because I didn't disconnect the battery... so your experience may be different.
  19. I'm in the same boat, just bought the REU head unit and remote display, but no harnesses. The harness from Dodge is $145, but I have no part number to reference to try to find it elsewhere cheaper. Also, the second connection on the remote display I assume is for power, but I haven't been able to find any information on that at all. Has anyone else had any luck?
  20. As with any manufacturer, there are lemons. My last vehicle was a 2005 Honda Element, and that thing had a host of problems. Over $1100 in front suspension repairs with less than 50,000 miles on it (rubber bushings were worn out - metal to metal), rear suspension noise that the dealer could not fix, went through tires like crazy, had three batteries put in it in 4 years time, driver seat track was loose and rocked (dealer replaced at around 12,000 miles, which fixed the problem for about a month), seat fabric wore out within the first 3 years, etc, etc. The car had never been taken off-road (only city/hwy driving) or abused in any way. Plus the 4-cyl engine got about the same average MPG as my V6 Journey, yet couldn't get out of its own way. So it's pretty much a luck-of-the-draw thing, I think. It sucks that you've had so many problems. It comes to the point where you just don't want to deal with the repairs anymore and the whole car just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. At that point nothing will make you feel better about it other than just getting rid of it and getting something different. Hopefully your next vehicle will give you better service.
  21. That's definitely impact damage. Like the others have said, get it replaced right away. There is no way to repair that kind of damage.
  22. I'm not seeing any now either... could be I was imagining it. Come to think of it, those buttons are fairly flush to the handle, so a cover wouldn't necessarily work all that well. They sell replacement chrome plated handles (not covers), but again I don't know if they are available with the lock button pads.
  23. Check eBay. I bought a set of chrome door handle covers without the lock button holes, but I have seen ones for sale with them. Mine were $20 for the set of four. The fit is "okay", but not perfect. I also got a set of chrome mirror covers on eBay for $47/pair including shipping. They fit perfectly.
