Hi there, well, I just picked her up from the garage, she cost me £3000 in total for rebuilt trans, the clutch assembly was replaced as well as the Dual Mass. I have to say she drives like a completely different car, I can't quite believe the difference. There was this weird thing it used to do in slow moving traffic, if you were not moving fast enough for the trans to shift into 2nd gear but you rode the throttle at about 2 or 3 mph then took your foot of the pedal the transmission would snatch the car jerking you forward in your seat for a moment but now it drives so smoothly with no snatching or dragging and the downshifts from motorway speed to a Stop are now imperceptible I have fallen in love with it all over again. I was planning on selling it next year but Im going to keep it now and treat myself to a Ram SRT10 Quad cab for fooling around in before gasoline engines are outlawed in the next decade! enjoy the summer wherever you are :-)

Hello all well, I haven't been back here in a while, I was checking some of my old posts it seems 2012 or so was the last time I posted. we've had our diesel powered CRD/RT Journey since buying new in 2010, I've racked up 53000 miles in the old girl and apart from servicing etc the only major issue was the failure of the drivers door central looking unit which was a £400 repair a couple of years ago. But things have changed now, for anyone who's had similar problems maybe this is of interest to you, maybe it isn't. Recently the auto box started 'slipping' and after a few visits to a number of transmission specialists here in London a new clutch assembly was diagnosed by all of the Garages I took the car to. I decided to take it to Automatic Man in Acton West London (for those of you who are interested) with a quoted price of £2000 for the fix, a small garage with only three employees, and a two week notice needed to book a car in told me it was a busy trustworthy place turning over a lot of business. the owner explained to me that the gearbox in my dodge was the same model in certain european volvo's and Ford's, specifically the Ford Galaxy people carrier and clutch failure at low mileage is extremely common due to a 'design flaw' in the clutch assembly something which is remedied in the replacement parts. Again, maybe thats true or not, I don't know, this is just how it was explained to me. Apart from the slipping issue which only happens when you accelerate hard the car drives and shifts fine, using the kick down is a no no as the gearbox goes crazy running up and down the gears like a maniac but if you back off the throttle it settles into the correct gear and drives fine. Its very frustrating for this to happen, we are about to go on our yearly drive across Europe to the Black Sea and the expense has a come at a bad time (when does it ever) but I love the car due to its size and its ability to go from hauling all my work equipment to being a family car from weekday to weekend so we've decided to swallow the cost and get on with it, for those of you interested I'll post a follow up after the work has been done. happy holidays to all of you.

Hi, I live in London and have a 2010 CRT/RT in Sea Blue that I purchased new from Kings in Manchester brand new. I've done 45K miles in it as of Dec 2014 mostly hard east european motorway miles travelling to our second home out there once a year on the Black Sea. In that time I had the central locking fail on the drivers door which necessitated a new locking assembly in the driver's door, which was fixed by the local garage in Wandsworth who do all the maintenance on it, that was quite expensive at four hundred quid. Apparently its no more complicated to fix and repair than a VW Passat or Golf, at least thats what the guys who do the work told me, I get an oil and filter change on the diesel engine twice a year or every five thousand miles or so, only other expense has been brake pads, two tyres and front disks, all routine wear and tear really and all done by the local garage. The only other problem I have had with it is in very cold weather the auto box occasionally won't select reverse gear when manoeuvring in a car park or similar, switching off in 'Park' then restarting and engaging 'D' seems to fix this, weirdly it only ever happens in the Winter. we love the Journey but its time to trade up while there is some value left in it so this coming year Im going to chop it in for a new pimped Grand Cherokee STR8.

Hi, I live in London (Wandsworth) and have a CRD/RT auto Diesel, we purchased it new in 2010 and have racked up a humble 34K miles in it, Its a great car, small problems were the baffles rattling in the Exhaust, the warning light for the ABS brakes which stayed on (nothing wrong with the ABS, it was the switch itself) both fixed under warranty, the only other thing is it likes to eat brake Pads, but its a large car and I do lots of stop start town driving so Im not really sure that counts as a problem, you will have a great time with it, the VW diesel gives me around 30mph around town and 40 plus on a long run.

let me get this straight, as I have a Diesel/Auto that is almost out of warranty, the dealer want eight thousand pounds for a new Auto Box ?

Hello Miffed, any more word on this problem ? though I have had no real trouble of any significance with my DJ but as the miles start to rack up, Im just past 22K now, I am starting to think I might offload the car next spring when the payments are up, Im worried about tempting fate. We go off on our annual hols to Romania next month, the third such trip for our DJ since we bought in in 2010, a 6K round trip of very hard miles, If Its going to break something then thats usually the best time to happen ;( better make sure my breakdown and recovery insurance is up to date..last summer I had problems with a Diesel Particulate Filter, though that was small beans compared to your problem.. have a good day.

I have a CRD R/T auto and based in London, I have 22K on it now, I would be interested to hear if you have had any more trouble with your DJ since your last post?

hope all you uk diesel owners are doing ok ? my R/T is going along just fine now, front brake pads being replaced next week after getting 19K miles out of them back brakes have another 10K in them, Kumho tyres down to 30 percent tread and I will replace these in the spring with Michelin Latitude SUV tyres 235 size. have a great day wherever you are!.

Hi guys yes, I have just come from the dealer in Isleworth west london after picking up my diesel rt journey, this is what occurred and what I was told. I had been putting the incorrect oil in the engine and the Diesel Particulate Filter was indeed clogged up and having trouble re-generating, it was this that was causing the engine to randomly 'cut out' whilst merrily driving along leading to the terror of trying to steer 19 inch wheels to the kerb with out power brakes or power steering, I could not believe just how difficult and scary an experience that was, if it has not happened to you at 40mph then pray it stays that way...anyway..the mechanic went on to give me a thorough ear bashing about my warranty and not using 'Low Ash' oil, to the VW spec, the DPF will not be honored under the warranty if I screw it up from using the wrong oil so I was told...and the current price from this dealer for a new one is £1495 plus VAT !!! other things that contributed to the rapid clogging of the filter I was told was sitting with the engine idling for long periods of time, especially with the Air Con running at full blast, which was exactly what I have been doing and have done many many times this past year...though I never told the dealer that as he was already enjoying himself chewing my ears off for using the wrong oil haha next: lots of short journey, town driving without letting the engine get to operating temperature, apparently this can also contribute to the clogging up of the DPF so be warned if you use your diesel Journey for popping down the shops for a packet of fags (thats cigarettes for our American cousins not the other fags hehe) modern diesels eh ? all that emission stuff on them, you have to be so careful now, my old w123 mercedes 240 diesel, you could pour vodka in the tank and it would run. have a great day where ever you are.

my diesel auto is intermittently stalling while driving, its happened four times now and loss of power steering at speed and power brakes is absolutely terrifying, I have only just been able to get the car to the side of the road were once in 'park' it re-starts immediately...any one solve this problem ? have a great day wherever you are.

I thought I might add to my thread started about a year ago, I have clocked up 16K in the Journey now, most hard European autobahn miles, the car is well and truly 'bedded in' now, no major problems as yet. the brake pads are still on original and the Kumho tyres will go next Spring, after talking with the Chrysler dealer regards the warranty and my local tyre shop Im going to go for the Michelin Latitude 235 size tyres as Chrysler tell me they will continue to honor the warranty with this option. I have the engine warning light on at the moment as previously mentioned on another thread, but as Im in Romania on holiday right now Its difficult to get it sorted, a local Merc garage was able to look at the problem and got a reading on their computer as 'particle filter' but were unable to delete the light, going to try a possible Dodge dealer later this week out here. the only issue I have now with it is at very high motorway speeds the steering can feel a bit 'twitchy' you need to concentrate as even the slightest movements can cause the car to change direction with a sudden jerk that is very scary until you get the hang of it, I had become so use to it that it was only when a friend shared the driving with me to Spain recently that I noticed it again, at 80 plus mph he found the steering jerky and quite sharp, I put it down to tall 19 inch rims. in daily use the Journey is exemplary, economy is good, important as the cost of Diesel sky rockets in the UK, and my wife and daughter love the comfort and ride. as a side effect of ownership is the admiring glances the car gets every day is always nice, I would have liked to upgrade to the 2011 Dodge but its not to be for us in the UK, never mind, I will keep it another three years and see whats about then. have a great day where ever you are.

hi all, I averaged 32mpg on a run from London to South Eastern Romania this week, average speed for the first two day were 90 MPH, day three, across romania average speed drops to 50 mph and average mpg went up to 52 !!! this is with the diesel R.T auto.. I have a different problem now, my engine warning light is on, I have 15000 miles on it and its a 2010 model. Its a bit disconcerting as finding Dodge Dealers/Garage's in Romania is like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack, a local mercedes shop hooked up the OBD and said it was the sensor on the Catalytic Convertor and their advice to me was to 'drive faster to clear the particles out' well...considering Romania has one of the highest accident and death rates on European roads the advice to 'drive faster' is not really going to work for me...Im heading down to Constanta on the Black Sea coast on Monday, there is a rumor that there is still a trading Dodge Dealership down there so with a bit of luck I can get to the bottom of the problem before having to risk the drive back to London next month...

I have just tried my local dealer Wadham Tyres in Putney who deal directly with the Importers of Kumho tyres they told me this morning that this size is still not available anywhere in the UK at this time (May 2011) Im going to Majorca in it next week and then Romania and want a full size spare to take with me, just in case. Im going to try for this 235 size and see what I can find...

Hi all, I was just wondering now we have all seen the pics of the Fiat Freemont -a rebadged and slightly tweeked Journey- that should be coming to the UK late 2011, If any of you may consider a test drive or perhaps even trading in their current DJ ? I have given it serious thought and will stay with my current R/T CRD, it ticks all the boxes, and so far, nothing has gone wrong with it, I read the Fiat version will have slightly modded suspension, which may be something to consider as I notice at 100mph it can be a bit twitchy, but as I do that kind of speed only when continental motoring thru Germany once or twice a year, its not a big deal breaker for me, other than that, the fact that I will be the owner of a 'Fiat' and not a 'Dodge' is something to give me pause for thought :-) so, who thinks they might give the Freemont a whirl ? Dodge Journey R/T CRD Auto. Deep Sea Blue.

I had this problem with the alarm from the first day I picked up my DJ, a call to the dealer soon fixed the problem with the Alarm, he simply told me when activating the alarm to press the 'lock' button on the key fob four times or until an audible "beep" sounds from the car, this, apparently activates all of the Alarm options but crucially disables the motion sensing part, wether this works for anyone else I couldnt say It could be a more insidious fault with your system that needs a more thorough investigation, however, give this a try as It worked for me, now I press the fob 4 times til I hear the beep and the Alarm has never gone off accidentally again.

so I was thinking, I took this pic of my DJ, its a local beauty spot in Kent, in South East England for our continental cousins, taken about 2 weeks ago, and It would sure be nice to see a pic of your DJ taken in whatever weather happens to be in your part of the world right now, maybe your local burger bar or Mall car park where you take your family at the weekend? or picking up some timber at your local yard, or just parked by the side of the road, grab that digital camera that you have been fiddling about with all summer and shoot a nice picture so we can see your beloved DJ in the context of its surroundings, who knows Dodge might even spot the mileage in using them for a decent advertising campaign... so come on people ...post 'em up !

My God, the Dodge Journey is truly a global vehicle, Chrysler are you reading this ? we have embraced this car to our collective hearts complete with its warts and sexually transmitted diseases (ok, suspect brakes, peeling paint and various transmission and electrical related problems) but seriously ! overall, we LOVE IT... for good honest family fun on a reasonable budget it (more or less) does the job !

nice, we seem to be filling up here with a few more UK Journey owners, my R/T hit 8K miles this past weekend since buying it new back in July, when I went out to dig it out of the snow yesterday and started it up the dash outside temperature read -16 ! ! no wonder the diesel sounded like it was trying to bash its way out of the front of the car, I took this picture near a nature reserve in Bredhurst in Kent called Queendown Warren, the road was buried under fresh snow barely an hour later.

I had this EXACT same problem a few weeks ago sitting in a traffic Jam on the North End Road in Kensington, I have to say it put the bejesus up me, I pulled over and let the car cool down a few minutes and drove it home, it was fine once on the move and although I called the Main Dealer to get it checked out I never called back to make the appointment as the problem has not not come back, what I do now Is If Im sitting in traffic I leave the thing In Drive, the problem only started when I got lazy and slipped it into Neutral. sorry to hear about the other problems, I have an RT diesel Auto and so far nothing really to report, a bit of peeling paint on a door mirror and this brief event with the clunking transmission, seeing as how I bought it new and my family really really depend on it every day if it goes up the swanee then Im in deep do do.... let me know if the problem comes back and me ditto.
