  1. I did ask before I dropped the car off and they said it would be $40. Then he called me later. I told him I had a 5$ off coupon. He also said he would speak to the owner since I told him I'm within walking distance and I wanted to be a regular customer if he could work with me on the oil change price. So I chalked up the extra fee today to the convenience of getting the darn thing done and seeing whether this business will do the right thing and make me an offer that will be a win-win for both of us. I appreciate your response though- it motivated me take care of it myself next time if the shop doesn't coime back with a reasonable fee.
  2. My last local shop (Kansas City rural suburb-private mechanic shop) forgot to call me to pick up my Journey after an oil change and they went home for the weekend. Next oil change I went to the next place in town (another local mechanic). I get a call after I dropped the car off that the oil change was going to be $60.00 "because of the oil filter". Nothing else, just an oil change. What? A Fram filter at Walmart is $8.15. Most shops charge $40 and some $30. The 10 minute places charge $19.99. Does the Journey require some special oil change that warrants a $60 service? Seems as though I should go back to doing it myself again or shop around a 3rd time.
  3. I bought a 2014 Limited. It came from out of state via CarMax and the chrome wheels were not listed on their website. I had done my due diligence re: the pricing and features for this car and so I was basically ready to buy once the car arrived, pending a test drive and testing of equipment. So the car gets here and wow!- chrome! I didn't even think to rule this out when asking about the options the car had and since CarMax takes the vehicle off their webiste once it gets scheduled for transfer, there were no more pics to look at after the first glance. It's tough to admit, but now that it's been couple of weeks, I think I'm getting used to it. The wheels really makes the car stand out in a parking lot! But I'm wondering if there is a way to change the chrome appearance without buying new wheels. Is the chrome just a cap over the wheel that can be removed and replaced with another cap? Can it be painted, brushed, dulled? Just wondering in case I get too many jabs about it.
  4. I never thought I would buy from CarMax, but they happened to have a 2014 Journey Limited with 10,000 miles. It was just what I was looking for. Couldn't find it anywhere near me at any dealership. One dealership 2 hrs away had an R/T same year, 24,000 miles, same price. They were stereotypical car salespeople. 1- they didn't list the selling price on the car on their website. They wouldn't e-mail the price unless I gave them all kinds of info. (1 week after complaining to the sales mgr, I noticed the prices on their website) They listed the car as power liftgate (what a joke), navigation and sunroof (their website pics did not show either). Miserable! I told them to take a hike. It was a pleasure buying from CarMax. I did my homework and found the price to be very fair. My vehicle has a trailer hitch which we will use for a bike rack on a regular basis. It took about 45-50 mins to drive away after I arrived for my "closing" appointment. No sales pitch for extended warranty or etched windows or bottom coating or nitrogen b.s. They put a yellow bow on the car ( a little cheesy, but a nice touch just the same) and they're mailing me the license plate and gave me a signed $20 check for the DMV when I have the VIN # verified since it came out of state. They did a recall check and they seemed serious and thorough about this. I checked myself prior to the closing re: any recalls and didn't find any. Turns out- craziest thing -1 week after I bought the Limited, there's a recall! The recall is so new that the local Dodge dealer doesn't have the instructions for the repair yet. I can't imagine that CarMax could have known about it. You have to know what you're buying with CarMax since the salesperson may not know a whole lot about the car you're interested in, but if you do your homework, I think they're just as trust worthy as any "certified pre-owned" car dealer.
  5. Thanks for these responses. I guess the reason imiss it is because, and this takes courge to admit, our last vehicle was a minivan. What a pleasure though, having that power lift gate- for the dog (he became conditioned to the beep it made), for the convenience when carrying too many briefcases/laptops,boxes, etc. I'll probably forget about it too in the next couple months, but if not, the wheelchair van conversion shop is a good idea.
  6. Can't understand why a power lift gate is not standard in the Limited. Can this be done by an average DIYer? Can the dealer make this happen?
