  1. Sounds like it could be a transmission problem. Probably got a defective one from the supplier. Either way make sure the dealer checks all the components of the tranny to make sure there isn't any sort of damage no matter how 'minor'. Could be years before something crops up as a result. If they say it will be fine, get it in writing!

  2. I am told by my service in-take man that Chrysler is telling him that it is the quality of gas that I am using.... not that I am using the wrong gas, but that the gas makers are not putting enough detergents in the fuels.... BOLOGNA!!!!!!

If you go to a no-name station then you ARE taking a chance on the quality of gas. There can be a big difference in additives between brands. Government only mandates minimum requirements for pollution control not the quality.

  3. Was talking to a guy at work who had vibration at and above highway speeds. He took it in to the dealership and they swapped out the windshield cowl (plastic right below the wipers) for a new one. It was bulging out in the middle of the windshield, so when he hit a certain speed it would vibrate and cause a bad shake from the front end. Says all is perfect now. He has an '09 SXT.

  4. Hi. The dealer option leather sounds like seat covers unless they do custom work which would then run you an extra couple thousand ( I'm sure they would've told you about this). Just pay attention to the finishing details like the fit and snug-ness of the seats. Do they slip around when you get in or out? Do they 'look' good/bad? The DVD headrests will more than likely be self contained units that play independant of the head unit. If you have any complaints make sure you tell the salesperson and get it in writing on the contract. Let us know how the seats and DVD work out for you, I'm interested in those options.

  5. Howdy all,

I've been a happy Dodge Journey owner since last July, but the thing that gets me is the hunger for fuel. For what it guzzles it should have a bit more HP under the hood.

Anyone know of any relatively easy changes I could do that may help it along? Was thinking changing my air filter for a K&N to see how that helps.

Was thinking of going the K&N route but decided to wait to see if they come out with a ram air solution for my 2010 SXT. I installed a K&N oem replacement on my '04 Liberty and got a little less fuel consumption (16L/100km vs 19L/100km avg city), a throatier sound ( :D ) from the engine and it does feel like its got little more pull. Plus for $20 i bought the recharge/cleaner kit and I don't have to buy another air filter for the Jeep anymore. Had it in for about 5years and never a problem.

I highly recommend K&N, just beware of the imitation one size fits all bug eye/ram air solutions on ebay and such. Some people have actually noticed reduced performance from some of these.

  6. I am now getting a squeak on the front passenger side....squeaks when the suspension is in motion....hope I can get a fix.

    Anyone else had this squeak?

Either your strut is defective or, more than likely, you have dirt in your bushings. During the winter they put salt and sand mixes on the roads to help with traction when it freezes or snows. Try spraying the components in the wheel well (behind the tire) with a water hose or power washer to see if it gets rid of the noise. Good luck!

  7. i bought a 2010 journey with factory installed remote starter.

vehicle starts ok with remote starter , the radio comes on but the heater does not come on until i turn vehicle on with key.

is this meant to be what happens or do i have a problem. i think there is a problem

    thanks for your input.

I have a 2010 sxt with remote start/uconnect also.. When I remote start the fan/blower comes on with whatever setting I had left it on BUT the radio is off until I turn the key. Sounds like either a wiring issue (doubt it) or possibly need to get your pcm reflashed at the dealer.

  8. I had a foam block from a shipped package. Sorta on the spongey side. Should take vibrations and bumps without the noise of the rigid stuff. I cut it to size about 2"x3"x4" (WxHxL) approx. and wedged it through the second row map light. It comes off easy. Just unclip and then flip it out. Oh ya, also used double sided tape (heavier duty type) on both sides.

  9. My 2010 sxt came with the Kumho and I was told and have the brochure that for the first 3 or 4 years, if any tire blew i would get a new one no questions asked.

As for the 'donut' spare, its pretty common the past few years to get one or your left with a tire pump/sealant and roadside assistance.

  10. Well, they fixed it yesterday - they say they stripped the bumper and repainted it - can they do that in one day? They only had the car about 6 or 7 hours.

If they know what they are doing and have the facilities, it shouldn't take more than a regular 8 hour day to do a small job like this one. Good luck and make sure to pick up your car during the day to make sure the paint is an exact match/shade.

  11. For that kind of money, make sure you ask for some freebies like a wind deflector and Dodge slush mats (thick rubber ones that match interior). Make sure the salesperson puts it in writing on the contract before you sign. Always makes a purchase better when you get 'free' stuff. BTW you could take their quote to another dealership and see if they will beat it which they likely will. Good Luck!

  12. On the 2010 models....

I'm confused over Dodge Detroit announcement: "Dodge announces upgraded lineup for 2010 ..." (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/08/dodge-announces-upgraded-lineup-for-2010-including-nitro-detonat )

They say the new 2010 Journey models will have packages like Express, Hero, Heat.

Does this essentially mean that there's a new 2010 model line-up/pricing now? On the official website, there's no mention of these packages though, if you go to pricing.

Bonus question: which model has the black facia around the temp control and radio unit vs the relatively ugly light metallic one?

When we had our powow at our plant (Brampton assembly- charger, 300 and challenger) they told us that instead of the traditional SE, SXT, RT etc packages they were gonna introduce 'attitude' packages. Express would be the SE -someone that just wants a no frills ride, Hero i think was something about being able to do anything (ie AWD ) Heat was the top-of-the-line stuff like RT and SRT.. It was a loooong presentation but its something to this effect.

The updated cars won't start showing up til the 2011 model year maybe sooner for some models.. When FIAT saw the trim "updates" made by Cerberus ( our old 'owner') they pooh-poohed them and took everything back to the drawing board. They wanted a lot more euro styling ie:less cheap plastic more sleak quality leather/ wood. Don't expect the price to stay as low but the look of the lineup will get kicked up a couple'a notches. They are also heavy into quality, moreso than Daimler or Cerberus ever were, from my point of view.

  13. Hi y'all. Thought I'd share a tidbit. Had my '10 Journey in for some body work and asked the service tech to check my tranny because 1st to 2nd was a little clunky. According to the invoice they reflashed the PCM with an update. I've had it since early November '09. Hope it solves some issues some of you have had with rough shifting... :)

  14. Hey Guys. Just got my Journey back from the dealer. Had it in for some body repair after a school bus backed onto my hood. Anywho, while there I told service that my tranny was shifting a little rough 1st to 2nd. They reflashed the tranny computer and now it has smooth shifting from 1 - 6. On the invoice it says they updated the flash. Mind you I have a 2010 sxt but I think its the same transmission as yours. Might be worth it to ask your service person and if they shoot you down go somewhere else. Good luck.

  15. i have a 3.5L, did the first oil change at 5000km. the "change oil" light is supposed to come on to indicate oil changes. when i went in, the dealer said that the dealership recommends changes every 5000km but chrysler canada says 10,000km or when the light comes on. I got my oil changed at brampton chrysler for a total of $48. seems a bit too expensive, i might be looking for some other shop like active green & ross.

Try the Jiify Lube over on Airport and Williams Pkwy. For 41.99 you get oil change AND they vacuum your interior while you wait. With your receipt you can get 50% off at the In/Out car wash next door. I used to take my Chryslers to Mr Lube but they have been getting more and more expensive and pushier on the upsells. BTW if its the Br-Chrys on Van Kirk - they suk. I will never buy a car or service from them again. Just continuously bad experiences. Wait til you have a warranty/service issue. I live in Brampton and bought my Journey @ Bary & Brenda's Ontario Chrysler in Mississauga- recommended :)
