Puffing Smoke!

Hey everybody,

Anyone ever have an issue with smoke at the exhaust pipes on the 3.6? I have a new 2012 Dodge Journey, currently only has about 4000km on the odometer. When I started the vehicle this morning there was a huge cloud of thick whitish smoke coming out of the pipes for about 10-15 seconds, and I mean a lot of smoke. The car has never exhibited this before in the slightest, it was standing for any period of time nor was the temperature outside extremely different than any other day. I do not abuse the vehicle or anything of that nature. I'm a little concerned that this is a sign of a major problem!

White smoke would indicate burning coolant. I think you had better call the dealer about that one!

Burning coolant? So there must me some sort of breach at the head Gasket / cylinder head / cracked block? I also smell, what seems to be a lot of gas under the check oil cap. I'll have to bring it ASAP, only problem is every dealer is closed, at least service is closed.

The smoke really hung in the air, if you know what I mean, kind of like when i start my 2-stroke outboard up. It was really dense smoke.

White smoke = burned coolant = possibly a head or head gasket issue. But that "smoke" has a lot of steam in it and likely wouldn't linger around for very long unless it is humid outside. Almost sounds like oil smoke to me. They each have a distinct odor when burning, and oil smoke looks a little blue and lingers around awhile. Check your engine oil and coolant levels under the hood and see where they stand, then have it towed to the dealership.
