  1. Have to agree with most points here. How many miles on yours, Northstar1? The reason I ask is because today, I had another 100 mile trip in the Journey. It's the first time I've driven the car in a week and I noticed today that the shifting is noticeably smoother. Much more so overall, especially the 3-4 upshift. It now has 1500 miles on it. I know the transmission's electronics are adaptive but they usually don't take so long to learn. I suspect that the car, now being driven mostly by my wife, has finalized its adaptives to her style. In any case, it is still not as seamless as the eight speed - which I agree is probably the finest automatic on the planet - but it sure is a lot closer. Most of today's upshifts were nearly imperceptible.

I also agree that the ride is perfectly balanced between smoothness and handling. I'm amazed at how flat the body remains in corners, yet the suspension soaks up most bumps easily and remains controlled. It doesn't dart or judder over broken pavement, either. I have the Touring setup which is supposedly more compliant than the R/T's High Performance Suspension, but I've not been able to compare the two. All of our stock Journeys at my store have been SXT's or Crews. Happy to hear that the R/T does not produce a jarring ride.

I find the seats comfortable, but I definitely prefer the seat in my 300M - the most comfortable car seat I've ever ridden in, hands-down. Nothing ever aches no matter how many hours I sit in it. We have a Hershey trip coming up in a month - that will be a good test; it's about a six hour ride.

I reset the fuel economy average at every fill-up. The lowest was the first tank @ 21.9. The last one was 22.1. The current tank is 24.3 - certainly not bad considering the car's size, power and capability. Chock that up mostly to the 3.6. All of my customers report improvements with their 3.6 liter-equipped vehicles over their previous ones with different powerplants - most noticeably the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the old 3.7 and the Grand Caravan / T&C with the old 3.8.

I haven't noticed any excessive brake dust. However, I can't judge this fairly because I am ridiculously anal about keeping the car, and the wheels in particular, clean. It has rained here relentlessly since we bought the car and I have washed it at least a half-dozen times in the four weeks we've owned it! This weekend I was able to get two whole days out of a wash job - it is forecast to rain tonight, tomorrow night and Tuesday. Guess what I'll be doing on Wednesday...

The fit and finish on mine is also excellent. There is, however, one paint defect in the tailgate. There is a sploch in the lower left corner of the tailgate - almost looks like there was a clog in the paint nozzle. You don't see it unless you lift the tailgate and look at it at eye level, and for this reason I refuse to have it repaired. A bodyshop would have to blend into the bumper and left rear quarterpanel in the repair process, and I don't want to do that with this color. If it ever gets hit in the rear, then it will be fixed by default.

I also wish it had a power liftgate. I guess they have to cut off the equipment level at some point, otherwise no one would buy a Durango! And yes, if it had an eight speed, then the powertrain would be indeed perfect. Redtomatoman is right, though - the engine has good torque but above 3500 RPM it screams. Sounds damn good getting it done, too!

  2. Fantastic looking cars, guys. Best of luck with them. I think I've figured out that Canada has two R/T models - R/T and R/T Rallye whereas the US has one. Our R/T and your Rallye are about the same, whereas your R/T looks like our Crew with the chrome accents and availability of chrome clad wheels. If we had a R/T like yours that's what I would have gotten, although I have no complaints with my Crew. I think the ride is firm enough even with the touring suspension.

  3. I have the Mopar hitch on my 2013 Crew. It is 3500 lb rated even though the car has a 2500lb capacity - it used to have a 3500 lb rating but was lowered for 2011 and up. Here is a picture so you can see what it looks like:

Like yourself, I will only be towing a 1200lb pop-up camper, plus gear and stuff. This hitch is plenty sturdy and will have more than enough capacity for the load, which is how I like it. Too soon to comment on corrosion but the finish seems durable. No issue with the warranty as this is what the factory calls for. Exceeding the 2500 lb towing limit could stress the cooling system and cause a non-warrantable repair, but your plans don't include towing that kind of weight, so no worries.

  4. Carly - this is from our dealer-only website. It applies to U.S. spec Journeys, but hopefully will be of some help to you:

  5. Chris - in Photobucket, each one of your thumbnails in your library contains four buttons. The second one down says "direct". Left-click on the Direct button and it turns blue. Right-click and copy the blue hightlighted link. Then, in this forum window, click on the "image" button and a window opens. Paste that copied link into the open window and your picture will be displayed here. Move your cursor under the picture and repeat the above process if you want to show multiple pictures in the forum window. FYI :)

  6. Sounds like they did not add enough oil. Pull the dipstick after the engine has been off for at least five minutes. if no oil is on the stick, add one quart, wait five minutes and recheck. If oil is showing on the stick but not to the "safe" mark, add 1/2 quart at a time until it reaches that mark. Always wait a few minutes before you recheck or add more.

  7. The Electronic Throttle Control light will only illuminate while driving if the system detects a malfunction in it. If the malfunction corrects itself, the light will go off by itself. Sometimes, if the light illuminates and stays on, you can reset it by cycling the ignition off, then restarting the car. If the problem continues, have it checked out at a dealer. Usually a malfunctioning electronic throttle will allow the car to be driven to a dealer, sometimes under reduced power and with limited transmission shifting. I would have it checked out if it happens again.

  8. What color is this?

    journey.png

    I found this here: http://www.dodgeoffe...ourney/ultimate

The color isnt available on Dodge.com or Dodge.ca for any model. The only blue is the Fathom, which looks nothing like this.

I have a 2011 DJ Crew, Blackberry Pearl, and want to trade-in for a 2013 Rally, but this is the only color I've seen that I like.

Might be Blue Pearl Coat - sales code PBP which is no longer available for ordering on U.S. models. I checked 2012 specs and it was available last year. I think it was 2012 only, as I did not see it on 2011 specs either. Here's a link I found on a Google search of a 2012 with this color:

  9. My new one is the Storm Grey Metallic it's a nice color to bad it's dirty cause the weather has been trash since the day I picked it up

Storm Gray is a great Journey color. Our last stock Journey at my store was Storm Gray and it was sold about a month ago. Nice car. Enjoy yours, and how about those pictures?? :)

I know what you mean about the weather. It has rained every other day here since we got our Journey three weeks ago. I can't keep it clean. Right now we are under the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea and my whole driveway is under water!

  10. Purchased a Bright Red with Black Leather Interior R/T four weeks ago and love it. Have been getting alot of compliments on the vehicle.

    photo4.jpg

Love that Bright Red color! Did yours come with roof rails or did you add them? The website says that U.S. R/T's roof rails are deleted but I think they can be added back on as optional.

  11. We almost got the copper pearl, the only one on the lot. Love it Journeymen. My wife's only battle was the colour - she won.

Very nice looking truck. Congratulations and enjoy your new ride.

Thank you very much. As is yours - I LOVE that Brilliant Red Tri-Coat. Never seen it in person - your photo looks way better than the Dodge website. We already have a Sunrise Red 1988 Mazda RX-7 so something different was on tap for us.

All the Journeys around my area seem to be Silver, White, and Black. Sold one a few years ago in Melbourne Green. Our last one in stock was Storm Gray. We have a Fathom Blue due in soon. Other than that, they're all the same around here. I'd love to see it in Bright Red too. Anyway, Thanks for the compliment and enjoy yours also. I'm sure you're loving it.

  12. It sure irritates me to read stories like yours where you take the car to your dealer with a legitimate complaint and they counter your complaint with excuses. It's so unnecessary. Dealers are paid to do warranty work - and some receive the same hourly rate compensation from the factory as they would from a customer. Warranty work is a win-win in many ways - you get a repair free of charge, of which you are entitled under the terms of the basic warranty, and the dealer gets paid to satisfy you as such. Why a dealer would balk at this strategy is something I, as a service manager, will never understand.

I am glad that most of your concerns have been addressed. In the U.S., any software flashes to the powertrain require an Authorized Modification Label under U.S. EPA law. Not sure if there are similar requirements in Canada. If so, take a look under the hood of your Journey for a modification label (ours are yellow) with a date written on it. Your service invoice should have a line item on it for the flash which shows No Charge and a "W" pay type for warranty. Of course, if the car is still shifting more smoothly then you know it was done :)

  13. Thanks for the compliments, guys. We're very happy with the car. For the six weeks that elapsed between order and delivery, I pored over a multitude of pictures on the computer trying to get a sense of it, but it looks different in every one of them. It wasn't until the car actually arrived that I was able to really judge it. And even then, wrapped in plastic and covered in transit grime, it looked different than on delivery day, all waxed and detailed. Right now it's sitting outside after driving in today's rain, and it's killing me not to wash it!!

Chris, I upload my pictures to Photobucket, then copy the "direct" link under the picture. Then, navigate back to the forum, click the "image" icon and paste the link into the open URL box. Very easy to do and the quality is excellent.

Senah, I know what you mean about the stickers, but I work for the dealer that I bought it from, so the sticker and plate frame stays on!

  14. Amazing!! How can you make it that shiney??? What are you using?

I use a spray detailer called HydroGloss. It's made by Ardex, who is a commercial supplier of automotive products for dealers. It contains a small amount of wax in it but is very easy to use - spray on, wipe off before it dries. Then I lightly wipe down the car again with a clean, dry towel. Great for those in-between washes, especially this time of year when the pollen is out of control. Drives me nuts. One thing about this color - it shows everything! If I had no job and no life I'd be wiping this car down every hour. Of course, if I had no job or no life, I'd have no car...but that's a whole other story...

Also, don't forget that the paint job is a mere six weeks old!

  15. Before you totally give up on it, at least take a good test drive in a 2013 with the 3.6. I've only had mine for two weeks but it is super-comfortable and all of the hard plastic is gone. I opted for FWD because AWD is unnecessary where I live, saving $1800.00 off the price which allowed us to purchase other options. The lack of AWD means less weight and drag which should improve fuel economy. We've only burned three tanks of fuel so far but each one averages about 22 MPG, not bad for the weight and power. My only dislike is the shift programming - it upshifts too soon into higher gears. 3-4 upshift is particularly rough. I suspect there will be yet another update down the road. Other than that, the build quality is superb and the ride is very comfortable and quiet. I own two 300M's and thought I'd never like a car as much. .

  16. Take it to the dealer. They will have get a digital image (photo) of the seat in question and send it to Chrysler for authorization. Repairs of this nature - seats, Jeep soft tops, paint issues, etc. require dealer pre-authorization via digital images to Chrysler prior to initiating a repair. Sounds like a new leather cover is in store for you. I'm not aware of any premature leather wear issues on any of these models.

  17. Webslave is correct on all points. I too was surprised by the lack of hitch receiver availability when I ordered my DJ Crew. The receiver is easily installed, and as mentioned above, the supplied wiring harness is plug and play with very little labor needed. Even working for a dealer, we were not given any concrete answers as to why the tow rating was dropped to 2500 lbs. We have heard more than once that it was done to reduce cooling stress which in turn helps maintain reliability.

I tow a 1200 lb pop-up camper with my 1999 300M, which has a rating of 2000 lb. I have not yet towed with the Journey but I expect it to be a little easier with an extra 30 hp and 10 lb-ft of torque on hand, coupled with two extra ratios in the transmission (therein lies the biggest benefit of all). The Chrysler handled the camper fine, but we definitely knew it was back there. Add a family and our stuff and you run out of capacity very quickly.

  18. I had a feeling the head would be the diagnosis. We haven't seen any incidents of misfiring yet with the 3.6 for any other reason, but you just never know. Kind of surprised about the backorder situation; here on the east coast the heads have been readily available. We actually keep one in stock, although we've done less than a dozen head jobs since the 3.6 debuted in the 2011 Grand Cherokee. At least you know now that there is a resolution in sight for you. Glad the M38 flash helped smooth out your tranny.

  19. Glad to hear that it has performed so well and that you are happy with it. I am envious of your road trip. I was just saying the other day how I would love to just get in ours and drive to Punta Gorda just to make sure the water is turned off in our condo! (I live in NY)

I work for a dealer. There may be software updates for shift quality in the future. If there is ever an update released, I will post it here so you can take your Journey to your dealer to have it done.

Also good to see that it performs well in snow. I suspected as such. We own two 300M's and they are excellent in snow. Around here, the terrain is flat and we've never been stuck. The front weight bias of the Journey is similar to that of the 300M - about 60% So, when it came time to order our Journey, I decided that we have never needed AWD and felt it would be best to skip it (an $1800.00 option) and put that savings toward options that we would really like. We ended up getting our Crew fully loaded. The only options we did not get were Rear Seat DVD and Engine Block Heater.
