Got the Journey back today! Everything looks great, and I was surprised with getting it back early too! It was originally supposed to be finished this coming up Thursday, but got the call this morning that it was ready. I was so glad to drop that freakin' 2013 Chevy Captiva back off at Enterprise!!! Haha.

I am certainly not cticizing the age old MPG or the American system, but the Canadian version of L/100 is slightly more accurate because it measures actual consumption vs. how far you may go, which is a hypothetical distance. One gives fuel per distance, while the other gives distance per fuel.
If you care to read more on this go to: http://www.skepticblog.org/2012/05/24/mpg-vs-l100km/. It was written by an American.
A more acurate way might be gallons/100 miles which of course would really screw things up.
Terry
Any criticism aside of Emperical vs Metric systems aside. How exactly could saying 10.2L/100km possibly be more accurate than 9.8kmpL? Being in the U.S. Army, I am very accustomed to the Metric system, as we use it rather than Emperical.
And by the way, I have a feeling the person that wrote that article may have never solved a math problem correctly in their life. Haha.
-
If you use the metric system, would it not make more sense for you to measure your fuel mileage in km per L? Or is that one of those things that so simple that it's stupid to do it that way? Haha.
I average 20.3 miles per gallon with about a 35/65 highway/city ratio, and some idling time also.

You thought about checking into what it would take to make a Freemont transferable to the U.S.? That would be awesome to be one of the only people in the U.S. with one!
-
Cool. Where are you stationed? The only place I've been to in Germany, is Liepzig. And that was only the airport, passing through on my way back and forth to Afghanistan. I can recommend one thing to you, finance thru a credit union if there's one on ur base, or either through USAA. You'll get much better rates.
-
You a soldier stationed in Germany? Or are you from there?
-
See if you can find the sister model, the Fiat Freemont.
-
Nice!!! But I don't have the patience to hold an average of 60-65mph on the interestate.. Hahaha.
-
The interior styling, and mechanical updates that came with the 2011-2013 models are a huge factor for holding out on the 2010.

Does anyone know if the back order problems are limited to the trailer hitch, or have other parts feel under this curse also? I was rear ended on Monday, and the rear door has to be replaced, and the dealer says the rear door is on back order until at least March 19th.
-
I picked up a 2013 Ford Edge from Enterprise today. It's ok, but not even as good as the bottom of the line DJ's tho. At least it's a vehicle to drive that's not messed up. Anyone else know any info on the back order of the rear door? If it's getting put off regularly like other parts do, then I'm gonna pressure Alfa to just total the car out, and go pick up another DJ Crew that I found today.

Went down south to Mobile this past weekend, to visit my sister and nephews, and the beach too. Had a great weekend, got some great pictures while exploring around Dauphin Island, and had a blast spending time with the fam! Well, Monday morning comes, and I pack my stuff up, and load up the DJ. Hit the road, and it's raining fairly hard, but the rain is on and off. I get about 200ft away from the entrance ramp to the interstate, and traffic comes to a stop, and as I look in my rear view mirror, the lifted '95 Silverado Z71 behind me isn't coming to a stop. Unfortunately, I was only a few feet from the car in front of me, so I couldn't move to avoid him. Luckily the guy had insurance, and I'm having no issues so far, getting my car repaired. But got more bad news yesterday from the dealer that my DJ is getting repaired at. The rear door is one of the parts that is being replaced, obviously. But it is on back order until at least March 19th. I'm hoping the rear door back order fiasco, doesn't turn into the same back order fiasco as the tow hitch for the DJ's. If so, I'm just gonna press the issue with Alfa on totaling my DJ out, so I can go ahead and just get another one.

That's good to hear! I'll add those part numbers to the list then.

For the headlight...
9005 (high beams) can be replaced by 9011 HIR bulbs with a simple trim of the socket tabs,
9006 (low beams) can be replace by 9012 HIR bulbs with a trim of the tabs also..
for more info visit: store. candle power . com.
I have these and they are great...
Looks great burgandy25. I wonder tho, what the reasoning behind making the HIR bulbs, and not match the other factory bulb types. Anyway, do you trim the bulbs, or the bulb housing on the headlight? And if you trim the housing on the headlight, does it make it to where you can't go back to a 9005 or 9006 bulb?

Sorry, I forgot that I said I wasn't going to post anymore on this. I'll reply to the OP only.

The opinions of law enforcement officers is not the defining element as to what's legal, only what THEY know and what THEY might charge you with.
I ran into a situation a while ago where a number of law enforcement officers thought it would be perfectly legal to buy and own property that was removed from stolen vehicles as long as it couldn't be identified. They were wrong, of course and their morals obviously suspect.
That they are cops doesn't mean they're right.
If you are stopped by an officer who actually knows what the law is and if he wants to ticket you and has nothing else to write you up for (or if he is just being mean and wants to max out his revenue for the stop), rest assured you will be driving away with a ticket for an equipment violation that you will not be able to challenge.
So to correct your statement; You are speaking from experience - you have had no issues.
You may NEVER have issues. But that doesn't mean that what you are doing is legal. For example, if you are driving along 5 over the limit, because 'they always let you go 5 over' and you get pulled over, that excuse isn't going to work. 5 over is 5 over and if they want, you will be issued a ticket. It is the same with equipment violations.
The intent of the OP is to improve his lighting - If he wants to install HID lighting then he should know what the potential downside is before doing so, so he can make an informed decision.
So part of your "informing" him, is to recommend that he install H.I.D.'s into the improper reflector style housing of the low beam location? Which happens to be exactly what is illegal.
-
Sounds good branfrank. You use, and recommend, what you like, I'll recommend and use what I like, have used, had no issues with, and what I've established personally with multiple law enforcement officers (who happen to be known personally by me) as being perfectly legal. But your suggestion to replace the low beams, shouldn't be taken. The Journey doesn't have a projector housing for the bulbs in the low beam location. It has a reflector housing. With a halogen bulb installed, there is a nice, clean cut off to the beam of light, But that will absolutely not be the case with H.I.D. bulbs installed. That is what you are stating as being illegal. But again, I'm just speaking from knowledge and experience, so nobody should listen to me on this matter. ;-)
No more messages from me, as this is turning away from the intention of the OP.

Great points raised webslave! That's yet another reason why this should a section of the forum available to paying members only. It would be an incentive to pay for a membership, and that would help cover the hosting costs of images, and other areas of the forum.

I am going to play devil's advocate here for just a moment how would that save us money? Am I missing something?
Terry
Hmmm, not really sure how you're playing the devil's advocate with that question. Unless you're a mechanic at a Dodge dealership??? Haha.

hey, thanks for your response. it is because i do not feel like taking any risk, and i believe in "you get what you pay for"
apparently some guys from here bought it from them.
and yes you are right, it did not sound quite right they offered me to get 9008 bixenon when journey takes 9006.
that's why i put this question up here to make sure, that the retrofit source is not making mistake.
Xentec makes some very reliable H.I.D.'s. So what I've paid for with Xentec, has been what I've gotten. Like I said, I've had no problems with the Xentec's I've installed on 3 cars, and 2 bikes. And the set that I just ordered a few days ago for the Journey, I'm assuming I will have the same luck with. But in the end, it's not my check book that's paying for the H.I.D.'s you buy, so go with what you prefer.
Second, the 9008 has a different mounting base than the 9006 has. And a bi-xenon bulb is a high/low beam bulb. Our car has separate bulbs for the high and low beams. The bulb they are recommending to you is absolutely wrong.
Are you wanting to replace the high beams or low beams? I'm replacing the high beams only right now, as I'm not absolutely sure that the projectors in our low beams are able to properly handle H.I.D.'s.
And as far as bramfrank's concern of legality, there is nothing illegal about H.I.D. headlights. Having H.I.D.'s in your low beams, without them being in a projector housing is what is illegal in most states/cities/municipalities. And I feel that the whole point of having H.I.D.'s is to have a nice, clean, pure, white light. And 4300k color is a little too yellow to me.

Great start for this addition to the site! With the Journey having different body styles for the different years, and multiple engine formats, Rubberdude88's suggestion of those subsections/folders is ideal. Other subsections/folders could include "transmission", "lighting", "interior", "lubrication & maintenance", "suspension", "brakes", and many others. I can talk with the moderators, and show them a format that another forum I am on uses. It works wonderfully, and helps a lot with searches. Just let me know, and I will do what I can to help.
-
Holy crap! Why on earth would you pay that much for a set of H.I.D.'s? And 9008 is not the part number for either high or low beams on the Journey too. The low beams are 9006, and highs are 9005. Here's the link to the seller of sets that I've ordered multiple times for cars, and bikes. Always had great luck with them too. http://stores.ebay.com/xenonfactory?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

This is an administrator request. Not a moderator request. All moderators can do is edit/delete posts, and possibly approve memberships. I do believe it's a necessary part of a forum to have a How-To section though. I've been a part of www.300mclub.org for years now, and we have a section there called the "KnowledgeBase". Which is our "How-To" section. It is available to paying members only. Which is, I believe, how it should be. As there has to be some sort of incentive for actually being a paying member of a forum, rather than just joining.
Anyone tried this hitch?

Found this hitch on eBay, and was curious if anyone has bought it, and what you think about it.
