  1. I had always meant to get this looked at and finally put an order (back order part of course) back in September/October when I had the brakes done. Due to some miscommunication, where they thought I was going to call back to schedule an appointment rather than them let me know when the part is in, we brought it up again last week when we lost two tires to potholes (we've been pretty damn unlucky with accidents with this car...4 accidents in less than two years and multiple tire hazards *sigh*) and had to get them replaced. Part came in end of the week and was installed today (dealership was extremely happy we didn't fill the tank up just before bringing it in..we were close to fumes). Anyway, went and filled up tonight; regular fill, stopped it when it clicked, and lo and behold, it shows a full tank for the first time . Part number is 5145614AB - Module-Fuel Pump Level Unit.

    Cheers!

  2. I really wished we had our journey for our recent trip to Nova Scotia.. we had a 4 Cyl Terrain while the DJ was in the shop, and man, am I ever glad I went for the V6 on the DJ. a 4Cyl engine is just not powerful enough for the type of vehicle it is unless you're driving on nothing but flat roads all the time... The drive to NS had major Hills galore and when you hit the gas on the Terrain, it made a lot of noise, fuel consumption jumped up to 19-21L/100km, but you just barely maintained your speed. Overall average for the trip was 9.4L/100Km with the hilly area's getting 10.2L/100Km and my best recorded was 6.9L/Km (main flat area between Ottawa and Montreal), all was in "eco" mode... The trip we made to Niagra last year with the Journey did 8.8 there and 9.3 back, but that was also including heavy TO traffic we were stuck in for a couple hours... The best I've done is to a town just north of TO; all back roads, but pretty hilly and that was 8.2. Now that the transmission's been flashed, I'm looking forward to seeing if there might be any gains in day to day traffic as that's where we usually suffer.

  3. I just brought my Journey in today to get the brakes done (I didn't pay parts, but I did pay labour, which I feel is an acknowledgement that there are problems with the brakes...$372 after taxes is better than over 1K) and I had mentioned my gas gauge issue; not reaching full even when force feeding it, which in turn screws with the empty status indicator, ; There does seem to be a fix for it in that there's a module that needs replacing; just waiting for the order to come in now. TSB 08-063-12. Apart from that, got my PCM flashed for the transmission shudders on the down-shift and hesitations to accelerate when close to a shift point.

  4. P/N is 68035431AC, unless it's different for the lower part of the panel as that's what needs to be replaced. And it's not on a 6 month back order, but the fact that 6 months have past since we last put in an order for the same part. *shrug* in any case, I guess it'll be ready when she's ready. I just don't like these no ETA time frames.

as for the Terrain; it does have some interesting features to it, but overall would take the Journey any day. Also noise levels at highway speeds are incredibly high in the Terrain..no sound proofing at all it seems.

  5. Heya Folks,

By this time, I was hoping to come on and say how much of a joy Driving our Journey was to Nova Scotia from Ottawa, but alas, my wife had other plans.. She got t-boned at an intersection about a week before we were supposed to leave, taking out our 4 year old's door. All involved were ok, and surprisingly enough, the Journey actually didn't suffer that much Damage (Can't say the same for the Civic that hit us mind you...but, that's what Crumple zones are for..) Unfortunately, while the door was easily replaceable, the bottom part of the Quarter panel got bent to hell as well. When I saw that I cringed, considering our last accident (less than a year ago), it was the same Quarter panel (although a much larger area needed to be replaced) that delayed our repairs by two months..at the time, Chrysler rep said it was supplier issues; here we are 6 months later and you're still having supplier issues??? I really think you need to rethink your supplier relationships (not to mention my wife has to stop wrecking the car....) The Body Shop is hoping next week, but they have no ETA, to which I laughed and said I won't hold my breath *sigh*

In any case, for our trip out east, we have a GMC Terrain AWD with a piddly 4Cyl. Engine; Not the best thing to have for all the hills we've had to navigate. In the city, the thing is great, but Hilly Highway..I keep hitting the gas waiting for something to happen :(. The interior is pretty spacious, but the build quality feels cheap, plastic throughout. Bluetooth, but no media streaming. The Projected beam headlights are pretty sweet. But otherwise, I really like/miss my Journey. :(

  6. Definitely feel for ya, having gone through the waiting game myself (Rear quarter panel); at the very least, you have a date, which is better than what I was provided (indefinitely on backorder). When we finally did get a date, it stuck and we got the car when expected after that. Hoping the supply chain is a little better than it was up here in Canada.

  7. To say the least, I'm happy to have my own car back after all this time. The 2013 SXT was nice, and I found the brakes to be much firmer on it, but I really missed my heated seats, auto climate and Satellite radio.

Work was done by CarStar; Final Bill, $1,833.35 for parts, $2,571.50 in labour, and $444.95 misc, so Grand Total, after taxes, was $4,849.50, which ended up being less than the apprx $5,500 they originally quoted. Rental costs were $3,586.99 for 62 days (absorbed by Insurance and CarStar themselves when insurance ran out). It took 62 days due to one part (left outer quarter panel) being back ordered.

Work looks good; the main part of the damage looks great as did the paint matching, but we'll have to watch the interior gaskets around the door as they seem a bit small. .. There was also a plastic strip on the inside of rear hatch's piston well that's supposed to cover seam that was missing, but CarStar is looking into ordering one for me. When we got the car home, I started to go through the trunk, and found, in a blue fabric bag, a spare rear left tail light. and definitely not my old one, as it had exploded into many many pieces when it hit the pillar (still finding pieces from time to time)...seeing as it's a $304 part, wasn't on my bill, and being honest to a fault, I did ask them about it; the agent at CarStar looked at it, looked at my new tail light, and plainly said keep it . Now I have to pry off my tail light off to see if it actually works, but if it does, very sweet surprise (and nearly makes up for my deductible).

The only other issues I found were that the change oil message came on, and was expected (I had changed the oil just prior to the accident and had not gotten the message yet). Cleared that, but the check engine light was still on. They took a look at it and code came back as low voltage, which makes sense; Car went in with 17,872 Km's on it and came back to me and out with 17,875 Km, so it really has sat there in the yard for 2 months, and I never removed the rechargeable light, so there definitely was a drain, albeit small, all that time.I also heard something like if it was rubbing, but chalked that up to rust build up on the brakes as it disappeared after a couple of stops.

Now, with the nitty gritty out of the way, I do want to thank DennyB (DodgeCAcares). He was great, having reached out behind the scenes in regards to trying to find the part I needed, and also providing an option to continue our rental after we hit the limit with our Insurance, although I'm really happy CarStar stepped up themselves as I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket up front :). But DennyB, thank you very much. I, and I know others, really do appreciate the help and work you as well as ChrisB (DodgeCares) provide to the people on the boards.

I guess my only disappointment in the whole ordeal (apart from the booboo itself), is how long it took to get fixed, and that was due solely to lack of parts for the vehicle. I mean, yeah, we had a rental, but in the mean time, we didn't get to enjoy the comforts we paid for, and lost two months off our SiriusXM to boot. It was definitely our fault for causing the damage to begin with, but you do have some expectation that parts for a vehicle you purchase would be available within a reasonable amount of time, and two months was not reasonable. It's something we'll have to add to our checklist when shopping for our next car.

    Cheers!

    Steph S.

  8. we've been averaging 17L/100km, up about 3L/100Km from over the summer months, and that's mostly city driving, although it's not mine so I can't compare directly. we don't idle a lot (indoor parking), I'm expecting that it's due mostly to slippage on take offs, and the fact I gun the engine on a couple low traffic streets to get the the engine temp up, and the heat flowin' :D

  9. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll be that lucky. There seems to be a backorder on the quarter panel we need and the only time frame we were given is "indefinite". We're coming close to the end of our Car Rental allotment with insurance so I'm not sure what we're going to do for a vehicle in the coming weeks...

  10. Personally, I can't compare with a BMW as I've never driven one, and quite honestly, the DJ (a economical Crossover SUV) shouldn't be compared to the BMW 5 Series (a luxury sedan) as they really aren't even the same class, and I'm more than certain that the BMW would out perform the DJ in almost any category other than interior space. That said, I've been pushing the DJ a bit since having our first major snow storm of the year, which included freezing rain, and find it performs admirably, even without the AWD option.

    Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

    Steph S.

  11. Hey folks,

Just a quick note; over the last couple of weeks we've been having numerous weather systems hit us, between light snow, freezing rain, mix of both, and today we're having our first all out snow storm with about 15cm (half a foot) of snow so far, and expecting another 15cm or so plus more freezing rain.

I have to say I'm very impressed with how the DJ handles in these weather types so far. I always feel in control of the car, and when I push it too far, it reigns me in with the traction control, but then again I haven' t had to rely on that too often as I do try to take it easy in this sort of weather. ABS, when needed, seems to work well, but my experience with it is limited as I've never owned a vehicle with ABS before. The noise is a little disconcerning, but I guess it at least tells me it's activating :). popping up to a higher gear to take hills at a dead stop produced minimal slipage so far, something I couldn't say with my caliber (both are running on all seasons).

The ride is still very comfortable despite the rougher conditions of the roads. The struts on the DJ haven't hardened yet in the cold weather that I've experienced with previous cars, and hoping that lasts, but we'll see once we start hitting the -30 to -40c weather (if we get that far this year.)

all in all I'm very happy with the DJ. Now I can't wait to just get mine back; I really didn't realize how well the ACC worked until it was gone. Currently have a very basic SXT with manual HVAC. Does the job, and the windows stay perfectly clear with no buildup, despite the very heavy snow fall, but having the switch back and forth between different settings is a pain and a distraction I never realy realized before.

    cheers!

    Steph S.

  12. yeah, we have no idea when we're getting our back; we know it'll be into 2013, just a question of how long it'll be for back order parts. our replacement parts include the bumper, the whole tail light assembly and ring of light, and the rear quarter panel. I've asked the wife to get them to email her the full quote. Insurance has already approved.

  13. I have the same issue with the brake pedal in my 2011 while stopped. After being stopped for a few seconds, it moves further towards the firewall, almost like pushing on a cushion, as you say.

Don't know if I'd call it an issue, but it was a bit odd at first. the 2013 DJ has the same thing, just not as noticeable.

And we go the quote back for the repairs; about $5500......worse than when I took out the entire side of the Caliber....

  14. Unfortunately, you can only fix one problem.

Just kidding. Sh*t happens. At least she wasn't hurt... your wife I mean.

lol nah, she and the 3 year old barely felt a thing (good old crumple zones). Technically it is her vehicle as it's in her name and all, so meh. It's now in the shop and we have a 2013 DJ SXT as a loaner for the next couple weeks at least. So far I really miss the heated seats and the auto climate; never realize it until it's gone. Some things I did notices though with the 2013 vs the 2012:

    - Much larger brakes in the front end

    - brakes pedal feels stiffer when depressing. with mine, I'd press it and bakes would engage no problem, but when I was at a stop, the bedal was like it was on a cushion...hard to describe.

    - ABS was much quieter when it engaged this morning briefly. I'm going to take it out tonight alone and play with it.

    - The evic. New graphic for oil pressure. you can scroll all the way to the top or bottom of the main menu and it wraps around now instead of having to scroll all the way back up to the top or bottom. the realtime MPG-L/100KM gauge graphic is now reversed; instead of having a full red bar that goes from left to right filling up the more gas you're using up, it now has a bar going from right to left that fills up with the less fuel you use.. confused me at first. will see if I can get a video for it.

I'm also wondering if the rental shop would be willing to swap my 19" chrome wheels for their 17" alloy ones :D

  15. Wife backed it up into the corner of a huge concrete pillar in our garage. took out the driver side tail lamp, bumper knocked out, and sheet metal crumpled... So much for the rest of the christmas shopping; at least the kids have been taken care of.

Just so freakin' frustrated as the accident could have been avoided easily if she had just straightened her wheels after she had parked the car originally...

  16. Steph,

The rear tends to take longer to warm up, as you already know, and the rear vents are usually only to assist the front vents in warming up the entire cab.

That being said I will look in to this for you and also look into what feeds the second/third rows and what you can expect.

As for your visit to the dealer, let me know what they advise and if I can be of any assistance.

    Thanks DennyB, much appreciated.

keep in mind that the coolant is passing first to the front heater and by the time it reaches the second heater its almost cold, we are talking about about 4 feet of piping, its normal for the the second row to blow colder air the the first row and also it take allot longer for it to heat up, usually second row will only heat up WHEN u drive the car, not by idling

The heater core for both the front and back (even if it's two separate units, but I really can't see there being two different heater cores), "should" be in the engine bay, or just under the dash. The piping should only be ducts that direct the air to the back (and front) and four feet of ducts should not drop the temp from a what feels like a blistering 40c (not accurate, but it feels very hot) in the front to a much much cooler temp in the back. Logically, it should be one heater core, that breaks up into two separate ducts, one to the back and one to the front, and then from each of them, breaks twice more to direct between heat and cool air. So the amount of hot air being directed to the back, should be relatively comparable, if they did it logically...however:

That's interesting.. In my 11 caravan. The rear heat is very strong.

So much that this morning, I had them on hot, and the fronts in cold, and still felt the heat on the back of my head.

That, and they come on as fast as the engine warms up.

I assumed the DJ had the same heater, as these cars are somewhat related.

I seem to remember reading somewhere, and I can't find it for the life of me, that there's an electric heater for the rear, but I thought that was supposed to be a booster for third row only... If it's for both 2nd and 3rd row, it could explain a little as why there's such a temperature difference.
