  1. Hi Everyone, Hoping someone here has experienced the same strange behavior my 2012 Crew has... With 29500k on it, seems kind of early and worrying to be having this kind of problem... This started about a month ago, I noticed that if my FOBS got cold, they would no longer work, I thought it might be weak batteries and changed them out, the FOBS stopped working altogether... Put the original batteries back in, fobs worked ok, but I did take it into the dealership for them to have a look. When I picked it up, I was told, that they had found a loose wire and that the fobs would be fine. Shortly thereafter, the fun began... Randomly, I could not lock/unlock/remote start/panic form either of my two fobs, proximity would allow me to unlock the vehicle. So off to the dealership it went, they could not reproduce the problem, for most of the day, worked perfectly, until they went to move the vehicle from the shop to the parking lot, neither fob worked to unlock etc... So, they replaced the FOBs. Three days after, my wife and I went to a market (out in the country - this will matter later) and parekd the vehicle, we got out and I got about 10 feet away from it, could not lock it, both fobs completely inoperable. So i pressed the button on the door handle and locked the vehicle. We came back to the vehicle about 20 minutes later, my fobs worked perfectly. A few days later, the same thing occurred at my house. So, off to the dealership AGAIN. Long story short, no problem found, when my wife picked up the vehicle, she was told that there was nothing more they could do and that we should call Chrysler Canada if we weren't happy... Then we were told that the problem was probably due to interference... Out in the country? nowhere near anything electronic around, not likely. They even suggested that we might be parking too close to shopping carts (yes shopping carts, the ones that have electronics in them to prevent them from being removed from the parking lot). No shopping carts at the market, nor in my driveway... So i called Chrysler Canada and eventually spoke to a case manager who told me, there aren't any codes in the vehicle, nothing we can do. She asked me to log all occurences, and get this, if it happens again, move the vehicle 20 feet and try it again. I have begun a log, had two more ocurrences since then and will start videotaping what is going on so they cannot say that it is not happening again... I equate this to walkietalkie's, if you lose communications, replace one end and if it doesn't work, replace the other end. From a technical standpoint, can anyone tell me what components of the vehicle make up the FOB remote functionality? Are they easily replaced? Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what was the resolution? I'd appreciate any feedback... Thanks in advance, Jeff
  2. Hi everyone, I have a 2012 Journey Crew with the Trailer Tow Prep Group on it and want to add a hitch to it. I've been comparing hitches from all sorts of manufacturers (Mopar, Reese, Curt) and seem to have settle on the Class III hitch from Curt, I like the beefiness of the Curt Class II versus the Class II. I'm not planning on towing a lot but want to make sure I've got a sturdy hitch. First, any problems using a Class III hitch even though the Journey is rated max at 2500 lbs. I'm guessing I'd tow 1500-2000 lbs at a time. Second, if I did put a Class III hitch on, any chance it would affect my drivetrain warranty, since the capacity of the hitch exceeds the recommended tow max? Third, the biggest downside I see with hitches is appearance, after 18-24 months they always ending up looking like a rust bucket. I've been thinking of getting the hitch coated in Line-X or Herculiner before ithe hitch gets installed to protect it from salt season... So if you have some wisdom to share with me on these questions, or perhaps questions I haven't asked that I should be asking, Please let me know. Thanks in advance everyone, Jeff
  3. Hi Folks, Just got a heck of a deal on a 2012 Crew with the non nav 8.4" display. As a condition of purchase, I needed two options added to keep family peace. I needed the backup camera added which my dealer executed perfectly, best backup cam I've seen in a long time. I also needed the Bluetooth and VR system installed, this is where the problem started. They installed a Bluetooth upgrade intended for the 4.3 inch screen and not the 8.4. The end result has left me with a Frankenstein/bastardized system missing a number of features. The phone icon that appears on the 8.4, is inoperative, says initializing and hangs... None of the visual cues that should appear on the screen work, not the dialing abilities nor incoming call displays. The Vr button is inoperative, I can't use voice control on any media functions Buttons are on an external dash mounted device, not on the steering wheel. A couple of questions: Is there an upgrade for the head unit I have to get the Bluetooth/VR to work as if it was installed at the factory? Would replacing the head unit itself solve the problem (and add the steering wheel buttons)? If a new head unit would do the trick, do I have to go with the NAV unit (hope not...)? To get the steering wheel buttons, does the entire steering wheel need to be replaced? Thanks in advance to anyone reading or responding to this, any bit of information you might have would be greatly appreciated. Jeff
  4. Hi, I have a 2009 Journey SE with a 2.4l engine, has 82000 km on it. We've had some pretty cold weather recently and I started to notice that when I started the truck, I would hear a puffing sound, like exhaust puff, coming from just under the drivers seat, I had also noticed my fuel mileage had dropped over the last few weeks too. So I took it into my dealership today and they told me the exhaust manifold had a crack in it. Covered under warranty, so far so good. They're also telling me the resonator AND muffler need to be replaced, to the tune of $800. It seems highly unlikely to me that both need to be replaced with only 80k on the vehicle. I've put in a call to Chrysler Canada because I believe these parts should not have failed so quickly. What is your opinion? Am I being taken for a ride? Should these parts last longer? Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond...
  5. I just picked up some husky liners from national 4wd in burlington fo 83$ + tax. Well worth the money and they fit PERFECTLY... I was quoted 140$ + tax for the weathertechs at krown... I don't think so... Fronts only on both quotes.
  6. Sweet Mother. I've been looking for this for 18 months!!! Thanks buddy.
  7. You may have to get your dealer to hook your Journey up to a StarConnect controller for programming... Just a thought.
  8. I had mine installed at Best Buy in Burlington, the base is screwed into the upper tray right at the back, no need to flip down at all. I can still use the tray too which is nice. I doubt you'll find the sirius antenna back there, the Mopar antenna kit is about $100 andd you can get it on ebay with instructions. Seems easy enough but I didn't want to bother. Something else the installer did was to hard wire the power into the switched outlet located at the bottom of the stack, very very convenient. Unit turns off when I switch off the truck. The bezel pops off pretty easily, do a google search for mygig lockpick, the install video shows how the bezel and radio come out. Good Luck.
  9. It's not preinstalled, you'd have to order it. I have an '09 SE with non-sirius mygig. I had a Sportster 5 mounted in the back of the upper tray in the console - fits perfectly (and out of sight too!). Never thought to use the Chrysler antenna though.
  10. I have an '09 SE Plus with the black/grey fabric seats. I've had the same problem with all my seats, the least bit of moisture and the grey part stains (rain, water bottle, damp bag, anything). Particularly the front passenger seat. It is absolutely atrocious. As soon as I started noticing problems, I brought them to the attention of the dealer who suggested ScothGuarding the seats. After treating the seats, the problem actually got worse. The dealer suspects its something leeching out from the seat upholstery, so really, the only way to stop it is to replace the whole seat - The dealer is none too happy about this prospect as you can imagine... Amazingly, the '10 Journey SE has black on black seats hmmmmmm.... I'm pushing Chrysler to replace all the seat covers with '10 covers, their response was 'Have you considered going with leatherseats (Katzkins @$1400). Oh and they also suggested I could get heated seats too for 500 more. Why would I spend my own money to solve their warranty issues. Chrysler - Are you listening.
  11. I have an 09 Journey SE with the REN (non-Sirius) radio head (it does have the phone handset button). I want to add the U-Connect auto-dimming rear view mirror. I've looked everywhere to get the part numbers for the mirror itself and the correct wiring harness. Any one have any help????
  12. 2009 Journey SE Plus, Inferno Red, Safe & Sound, Exterior Appearance Package, Remote Start, Sirius.. About a week ago, I noticed that whenever I released the parking brake and tried pulling away I sensed some resistance followed with two very loud bangs in quick succession, then the vehicle would start moving. Took it to my dealer the next day and, lo and behold, there an advisory of some sort from Chrysler that a batch of rear calipers were bad and needed to be replaced under warranty. So now I've got to wait 7 business days for the replacement calipers to be shipped from the US. Something to keep in mind folks... Cheers!!!!!!!!!
  13. MOPAR update... After finding out that Audiovox is indeed the manufacturer of the MOPAR remote starter. Apparently next to nuclear secrets, remote starter technlogy si a trade secret to be guarded with one's life... Bo one there would confirm anything... So I was just about to give up on the whole idea, when I accdientally came across a new Mopar unit that is compatible with Journey's built after Aug 08. Just under $500 installed. I know its' expensive but it connects to the vehicules' wiring harness without any mods required and I only have to carry a single FOB. I caved and ordered it last week, should be at the dealer on Tuesday...
  14. I have a Journey SE with 16" Aluminum Mags. When I started looking for winter tires, I too was shocked at how few options I had. To make a long and painful story short, this is what I ended up with. 4 MOPAR 16" Steel Wheels @ $110 Cdn each 4 MOPAR TPMS @ $70 Cdn each 4 Yokohama Geolander IT G072 @ 179 Cdn each (before a $15 rebate on each tire) Throw in Nitrogen, installation and it came to about $1800 CDN. Not to mention the aggravation of spending close to a month tracking down a solution. Ouch. But I've got one heckuva good set of winter tires that are exactly the right size so the instruments and ABS don't get too confused, and I don't have to worry about warranty. WARNING: Anyone considering using after market rims (black steel wheel), make sure you can return them. The first set of wheels I ordered through a very reputable tire specialist did not fit. The manufacturer supplied the wheels with a spacer to make sure they cleared the rear brakes. Unfortuantely with the spacer in place, there's only about 1/2" left of stud to attach to. Both my delaer and a second tire shop recommended not using these wheels for safety reasons.
  15. Bugs, out of curiosity, where did you have it installed? Word of warning to anyone trying to get the MOPAR remote start installed on the 2.4L Journey SE. Both Dodge.com and Dodge.ca as well as two separate dealers assured me this would work before I purchase my Journey. After I bought my Journey, the dealer tried installing the Mopar unit, only to be told by Chyrsler Tech that 'due to a wiring harness change made in production in July 2008' the Mopar unit would not work. I've tried contacting Chrysler Canada and spoke with several well reputed Chrysler dealerships, no one can shed any light on when or if a Mopar unit will be made available. Oh yeah, I found a dealer in the US that helped me track down the supplier of these remote start units. I've been told its' Audiovox. Can anyone out there confirm this.
